NO Games Will Run At Native Resolution

Dec 3, 2009

I switched on my computer yesterday to find that my screen had 2 black borders above and below which was odd, so I tried auto-adjusting my monitor, which didnt solve the problem it stayed the same, I went into the Nvidia CP to reposition the screen and I could only move to replace the border on the bottom of the screen, the top was permanent, any way I solved this problem by adding custom resolutions on both the NCP and Vista properties only to fire up PES 2010, and find it was in 1600x1024, I looked in the PES 2010 settings to find that my native resolution (1680x1050) was not in the list, I also tried COD MW2 and Half Life 2 Ep2 and they also cannot display this resolution, only resolutions that a usual 16:9 monitor can.

1680x1050 is my native resolution and i have been using it for 2 years on 4 different computers including this one so what could the problem be? It would be great if I could find the problem and not have to resort to manually changing the resolution on all my games in future. I reinstalled the card manufacturer drivers and it still had the same problem, everything is at the right resolution but the moment I start up a game it cannot go onto the native resolution.

Not Able To Select Native Resolution

Apr 9, 2008

I have bought a Vista x64 approximately one week ago. Actually I had no problem with the WinXP Professional however the Dx10 and the 64-bit issue caught me and here I am with my problems. I have Samsung 931nwplus monitor and my video card is Palit 9600 GT SONIC. The native resolution of my monitor is 1440x900. On Winxp I had no problems and was able to set the native resolution. However, after I installed Vista x64 I am not able to select the native resolution. I tried it from nvidia panel (custom resolution) power-strip and so on but I the max resolution I can select is 1280x1024. I have installed the final drivers of nvidia. However, I am not sure I have the latest drivers for my monitor. On the web page it says that the said driver is for vista but not sure if it is also ok for x64?

Added A Second Monitor To The GeForce 7100 GS Using A DVI-VGA Adapter And For The Life Of Me Cannot Get It To Display Anything, The Monitor Is Just In Sleep Mode

Apr 23, 2010

I added a second monitor to the GeForce 7100 GS using a DVI-VGA adapter and for the life of me cannot get it to display anything, the monitor is just in sleep mode. I've got the latest driver, Windows is up to date, checked the cables, tried another adapter, tried everything but, still nothing. The second monitor shows up in the device manager and in the Nvidia control panel. It's enabled and set to extend desktops. It seems the system knows it's there because I can move the mouse over, but cannot see anything. The power light on the second monitor just flashes. I've swapped monitors over, to make sure there's not a problem with the display and it's fine. When I do that, the main monitor is then plugged in to the DVI adapter and then that one goes to sleep. Just seems whichever monitor is plugged in to the DVI-VGA adapter just doesn't want to work........

Odd Monitor Resolution Strikes Again

Jun 1, 2008

After the computer was recently updated online, an unusual problem surfaced. The screen resolution was reset to a much lower value, and I find the appearance of the large icons and type (despite my age) disagreeable. I went into resolution setup and returned the resolution to a previous value...It held for a few minutes and reset itself once again to the lower value. Finally, I realized that the resolution would not hold and returned to a previous configuration.

Now, the resolution is okay when in normal mode, but when the computer has been hibernating, it comes back on at the garish low resolution value. As soon as it reestablishes itself after the hibernation, the resolution becomes okay again. Anyone heard of this? It is very annoying. I have not downloaded SP1, and am afraid to take anymore online upgrades. Vista still sucks.

Monitor Resolution Best At 1680 X 1050?

Apr 27, 2008

I have connected my not-that-old monitor. I get the message that the monitor workes best at 1680 x 1050 resolution. I try to select this resolution from the display > personalize > display settings, but this setting is not available. When I choose other settings the photos seem distorted (too wide). The help article talks about being able to let Vista choose the best monitor resoultion but is not clear on how to do this or on how to restore the default settings.

Monitor Resolution Stuck 640x480

Apr 30, 2009

I have a computer that is a Dell Dimension 2400 and had Windows XP on it. Ran into a virus problem so we had to reformat, in which we installed Windows Vista Home Basic 32bit. Everything is up and running now but I am having trouble trying to download a driver for my monitor. My resolution is stuck at 640X480, and my colors are Medium 16bit. I've downloaded the only kind of drive I could see from the Dell website and it doesn't help my problem. My model number on the monitor is a Dell 1801FP. another model #'s driver I could download to help me solve this problem? I have a standard VGA Graphics Adapter.

Monitor Resolution Sets Back After Reboot.

Mar 26, 2009

So far I am very happy with Vista 64, but I have one minor issue. I have done no tuning at this time for game optimization, so it is a stock install. OS drivers are up to date. I am using a 28" Hanspree LCD, which is recognized by name in device manager. I set the resolution to 1900x1200( might be 1920x1200), which is the native or recommended resolution for this monitor. Anyway it will stay on this resolution until I reboot, then it drops back to 1600x1200. Any ideas? I am using a GTX 285 card. I was using the 182.08 drivers, and now using a beta driver 182.46, but same problem. I have searched and searched and have yet to find an answer. Hopefull someone will have an idea.

Choosing Monitor Resolution Size Missing

Dec 17, 2008

flat panel LCD monitor's native resolution is 1280X1024. However, when I set Vista to that resolution, the text and everything else is very, very small. The next best resoultion (i.e., without elongation distortion) is 1152X864. I thought that in order to maximize one's screen picture, one should run at native resolution, but this doesn't seem to be the case. I also do a little photo processing and want the best screen resolution for that. It seems that if I want undistorted screen images and reasonable sized text, I have to compromise with 1152X864; or am I missing something?

1920x1200 Screen Resolution Under Display Setting

Jan 26, 2009

System Specs:
Dell XPS M1710 -

80gb HDD
Intel Core Duo T2600 (2.16 GHz)
2 gb RAM
NVIDIA GeForce Go 7900 GTX 512 MB graphics card
WUXGA Truelife Glossy screen

I recently reformatted my harddrive with gparted. Created a primary partition (nfts) and installed vista home premium 32 bit on it. On the remaining unallocated space I installed Ubuntu 8.10. Before I did this my display in vista was beautiful, 1920x1200 resolution. Ever since I reinstalled vista and reinstalled my nvidia driver it lists the current resolution as 1920x1200, but I can definitely tell that it is not the same resolution as before. I'm very frustrated because my monitor/graphics card is definitely not running at 1920x1200 resolution, but it says that it is under my display settings.

Takes 3 Seconds To Display Things Like The Windows Explorer Window Or About 6 Or 7 Seconds To Bring Up Firefox Or IE

Mar 23, 2008

I have a totally top of the range laptop, I am not running any of the things like Norton that are known to cause performance problems (I use AVG anti-virus). I have heaps of RAM and disk-space, a fast Intel Core2 Duo chip, yet my computer is slower than my previous seven year old one (that was running XP). It takes about 3 seconds to display things like the Windows Explorer window or about 6 or 7 seconds to bring up Firefox or IE. and about 10 or 11 seconds the first time I open Outlook. That is not taking into account the
time it takes to download the web page or retieve my mail. I am using the default settings in Vista, are there features in Vista (I know it monitors everything) that could be slowing me down this much?

Monitor Display Stays Blank

sometimes and more than ever its doing it now, when I turn on my computer the screen just stays blank. Most times when I turn it off and on again it will recognize it then work fine, but as of lately it can take 10+ times. When it does this and you turn it off, it does flash the Analog and Digital box in the top left corner, meaning its recognizing it but it still wont work when computer is turned on again. Im thinking the problem is something to do with the Digital/Analog setting on my monitor, or something in the settings?

Monitor Display Has Started To Flash Black For A Secound & Then Back On Again?

May 7, 2009

I'm using the onboard intel graphics with the VGA out to my VGA display. This problem has only started happening within the last 20-ish days or so. The display will periodicly flash black for a secound & then back on again? it's almost like changing your screen resolution but with no apparent resizing taking place, although it does seem to happen mostly when I expand windows more than any other time. Everything still carrys on as normal on the computer when this display blackout happens.

I have tested my ram with memtest to rule out ram problems as it's new. I'm not getting any errors to suggest theres some ram issues or any related symptoms for ram associated problems. anyway & it's now past 3 memtest sessions with no errors. I have also carried out orhtos & prime95 test just to stress the Ram & CPU to see if I got any errors reported with nothing reported. Only once did a blackout happen during testing when I was maximizing a window but the test reported nothing?

SP2 Fixes A Few Things

Jun 6, 2009

Well I must admit, SP1 was a huge disappointment but SP2 was what the doctor ordered for my PC.

My 5+ year old XP system was 20 times faster at disk to disk copy and network to disk copy than was my Vista. Solaris and Linux were 30 times faster. Applied SP1, no change. Vista was still pig slow at moving big files.

But SP2 changed that, now have the same performance as XP, maybe even faster on disk to disk. M$ fixed something in this load. Don't know what, took them a long time but much welcomed fix!

Q6600, 8GB RAM, 500GB HD x 2, Vista Premium 64 bit.

And while Vista received a lukewarm reception from some users, Windows 7 is likely to be remembered for addressing those criticisms. In fact, there aren't many changes to the overall look of Windows 7 when compared to Windows Vista. Instead, Microsoft seems to have paid attention to the feedback it received and created an OS that is not only stable, but also very capable. So what is new in Windows 7? Here are 18 cool things Windows 7 does that Vista doesn't.

Printer Should Support Lot Of Things

Dec 23, 2009

I bought a new konica-minolta printer: Magicolor 4650 DN. It comes with lots of printer drivers. I use Windows 7 64 bit. I think the printer installed itself when I plugged it into the network router (linksys). Windows 7 found the printer and I added the printer and it seem to work, including settings / properties for duplex / grayscale / color / page layout / number of pages per sheet etc.

Question: This printer should support a lot of things and when I want to download software from the Konica minolta driver webpage, there are lots of things to download. Some of these have something to do with "ppd, pcl, xps" etc... I don't know what these things mean.

Here are some of the directory names I downloaded:

KMPPD64PSMINIwin=85
MC4650MONOwinx64
MC4650PCL6Winx64
MC4650PPDWin
MC4650PSWinx64
MC4650XPSMINIVista
MC4650XPSVistax64
UPDPCL6Winx64
UPDPSWinx64

Should I install all of these ? Why ? What extra will they give me ? I assume Vista-drivers are the same as Windows 7-drivers, right?
