I have this itching feeling to try and see how my system runs on Vista x86-64. For that I _WANT_ to do the following. If I can't do it the way I want it, please suggest me a way that I can! I want to uninstall Windows Vista x86-32 without re-formatting/repartioning my primary HDD partition where Vista is currently installed. This way I can proceed to install Vista x86-64 without having to worry about my Movies, Audio and Video data already on the drive getting wiped out!
Can it be done? Oh, btw, the current install is a fresh, clean install about 4 months old, and the 2 OS [xp and vista] are oblivious to one another [i.e., i dont have an OS choice menu. To boot into Vista, I select my 160 GB at boot-up and for XP, I select my 40GB]. And, I would like my Vista x86-64 to follow in the same footsteps.

I would like to uninstall PICASA, but save my data base, of the folders and the albums I have created. Some other systems appear to let you do this. however my problem is that the path goes Start/all programs/PICASA/uninstall. I don't seem to be able to keep my database of holiday pictures - which I've spent so long on sorting. I was wondering if there is a way around this
Recently installed a video converters (Stoik Video Converter). However, when I try uninstalling it, I receive the following message, "Setup.exe has stopped working". After I close the dialog window, I see a popup on the task bar that says Setup.exe was closed due to Data Execution Prevention. Kind of frustrating that I can't even uninstall the program. I loose all mail in INBOX at live.com when I open Window Mails (running on Windows Vista operation). The messages moved from online e-mail account right into Window Mail. How can I shift all INBOX messages in the Window Mail back to original inbox account at live. com? Can I forward it? Can I copy all messages in Window Mail then forward it back to live.com? How can I STOP all messages from leaving inbox at live.com which transfer to inbox at Window Mail?
I've baught a notebook pc. It has T8300 CPU, and Intel GMA 3100 Graphics. The battery has for cells and it says its capacity is 2400mAh. With Windows Vista x64, I did some normal tasks such as surfing the internet a little and some file copying, application installing. But the big problem is the battery life. After fully charged the battery, I could only use about 1 hour and half. I've searched the internet and found that the main culprit is the Aero interface. So, I guess, using Vista Basic when in battery mode, and Aero when in A.C. mode would be more reasonable. Manually changing between them in "Personalization -> Show classic..." is quite a task. Is there any easier way? How do you save battery?
I did a search for this and even though I found different threads about it, I couldn't understand some of the fixes so I am hoping I can bother some of you folks to walk me through it one more time. As you can see in my PC specs, I use a 22" Acer Widescreen LCD monitor, my native resolution is 1680 x 1050. I have my desktop icons set in different places of my monitor, games in one place (right top hand corner), apps in another place (center top of screen), etc, etc, etc.
My problem is that if and when I decide to change my resolution for whatever reason, when I put it back to the native res, some of the desktop icons have dissapear from the screen. Up to now, the only way to make them appear again is by going into Safe Mode, uninstalling my video drivers, restart, install my driver again, reboot and Presto... they are there but this is getting to be annoying and well, I know there is a simpler way to fix this.............
Periodically I lose my network connection within Vista Ultimate (only since SP1). I tether my cell phone to my laptop PC. The cellular connections remains ON using 3G network. The connection drops for maybe 45 seconds and I can hear the laptop hard drive churning away. Based on another discussion I unchecked the Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) but that has not solved the issue.
I'm having with a latop, where after a while it will lose connection to the internet and network. We setup brand new SBS 2008 network, we joined all the computers (windows xp, servers 2003 and 2 vista business pc) to the network without any issues. One of the laptops was running Home premimun 64bit (which it used to connect to the network without any issues) and needed to be upgraded. After upgrading this laptop to Vista Business 64bit and joined to the network, I noticed that after about 30 to 45 minutes the laptop keep loosing connectivity to the internet and only had limited connection, at this point we can see our network nor can we reset the adapter.
1) I tried to view the connections properties but it hangs, after I reboot the laptop, I get connection to the internet but after a while it will lose connection again.
2) I even reformated the hard drive, reinstalled the OS, thinking I had some files corruption or something was not setup properly the first time...I downloaded the latest nic drivers, chipset from Dell. I also disable the Wireless card just to see if it was a conflict, but this has not fix the issues...........
I tried fixing my gf's laptop and ended up loosing all of her photos.
-basically she has a HP laptop running vista -she wanted me to clean up her laptop so I remove several things in add/remove program -one of them maybe MS SQL express that comes pre installed -now, on her desktop she used to have a lot of folder with irreplacable memories -but now its no longer there -when I do a search for the name of the folder ex "2009" -I see it appear but I can not open it, it says missing shortcuts -it looks like its a .lnk file and everytime I try to open it, its missing shortcuts
can you tell me a way to uninstall Call of Duty other than through putting in the disk and pressing UNINSTALL or in the 'All Programs'? Because it just won't uninstall there: I press install and the window simply closes and nothing else. I am asking this because I have found some patches on the Activision website (now I can get on it again) and I wan't to reinstall it...

I was having problems installing a program (Berlitz German Premier) where the install would just disappear halfway thru the process. A program would not appear under my programs list but when I went to Uninstall an icon for uninstall of the Berlitz software appears for each time I tried to install it. However I get the following error messages (see attached document with screen captures) when I tried to delete it the traditional way.
When I use Windows Install Clean Up utility, the program is nowhere to be found on the list; thus I can't use that program.
Well for what I use a computer for email, browsing, e-commerce and blogging, SP1 made no difference. Still swapping windows at random and loosing text in input forms and applications. In short, not something we disabled folks can use effectively or efficiently. I'll bet business productivity is truly terrible if everyone has my experience. I can't even get MSN to recognize my spelling dictionary from Office 2007. Vista's just not a good product from my standpoint.
Somehow the 'uninstall' button disappeared for most programs on my Vista Home Premium box when I used Control Pannel -> Programs -> Uninstall a Program. So I just got a new computer, a HP Pavilion running Vista, and I have a older hard drive that I want to copy data from. The hard drive came from a system running XP. It's a older hard drive, a Seagate 80 gig IDE connector hard drive, so I went out and bought a external hard drive device bay -- you just put the hard drive into it and then plug it into a USB port on my computer. If I plug it in, all that happens is every 10 seconds I get a pop up a message saying: "You need to format the disk in Drive J before you can use it. Do you want to format it?" Of course I don't want to format it, I'd lose the data I'm trying to copy! If I click cancel it just keeps bugging me about it and I can't access the HD.
I have a HP desktop running Vista premium. I "had" an Emachine that ran XP, but it died. (I think the power supply went out) Whatever the case I am not going to get the XP computer fixed, but I do want some files off the old harddrive out of it. How do I do that? I'm hearing of a USB adapter of some sort that will do it...is that true? I went on Ebay, saw some USB's but am not sure they will do what I need for them to do.

I'm on windows ultimate.. I need to burn a DATA DVD.. for some reason this is proving a challenge.. you can't do it w/WMC, as it doesn't afford possibility of browsing to folders you want to burn. my roxio 10 isn't letting me do it either (when I go to "Data and Backup" I get to a window where under "Data Disc" it says, "Easily create and bun a data CD or DVD or save a disc image to your hard drive"... so I click on this "Data Disc" link, choose folder, click on yellow button at bottom right ("click this button to continue") but it just hangs. nothing happens.. (and yes I do have a blank DVD loaded in the drive...)
just downloaded a trial version of nero.. same thing, you can do all sorts of fancy stuff, like burn music DVD's, movies, video, do fancy menus, slideshows, etc.. but I want none of that, I just want to burn a bunch of JPG's to a DVD (A LOT of them actually, only reason need to burn them on a DVD instead of a regular data CD is that it's so many images that I would have to burn about four CD's to burn all the images I want to burn..) I just want a DATA DVD that when user inserts it in the machine they can browse the files. but this is proving a bit difficult, which is a bit strange, I mean this is a very simple thing. how can I do this..
I got as far as connecting the transfer cable on both computers. The action lights flickered on both for about 15min and then they stopped. I waited for another half an hour but nothing further was happening, so I eliminated the transfer Windows. I found that no data has been transferred although both have Win.Vista Business.
I have 2 vista and 2 xp mechines on my network. When I transfer files between my 2 vista mechines I see transfer rates between 5 and 7 mgs, but when transfering from vista to xp I'm lucky if I see 1 mg. I mainly noticed it because I just set up a xp for file backup and its not running a firewall (not even windows firewall) and the data transfer is taking forever.
I fried my external hard drive by accidentally unplugging it from it's port. Searching on the internet they want $400-$800 to recover the data. Is there any other way to recover it or maybe a cheaper way?
I am really unsure of this and I have seen some similar threads. Apparently, the attributes to my User folder were adjusted. This has changed the items on my desktop and affected my ability to get my docs and pictures. My user folder is prop'ing at 6 gb, so I know the data is still there. However, I cannot access it. I saw a few threads that mention changing Read only and hidden, but I don't know what to trust. I tried creating an Admin account, and setting ownership to (MyUsername), but the items are nowhere to be found.

I want to know where Windows Mail stores the e-mails I have received. I would like to set up .PST data files (like the old outlook) on an external drive but have no clue.
I have tried all the official and miscrosoft published instructions on uninstalling SP2 Release Candidate for Vista Ultimate (in my case 32 bit). I have tried with tech support. So I have really gone the extra mile. I have very compelling reasons to not perform a new installation because of lost set up programs and keys which are essential to my business. I do have backups which go back before the SP2 installation (Release candidate). Is there no way or does anyone have knowlege of maybe just the directories or files I would need to reinstall; to uninstall RC 2 for Vista ?
I downloaded Vista x64 with built in sp2 RC. I have an msdn membership, and I put this on my laptop. It now says I have an eval copy. I understand that sp2 makes it say that, but my big question is that there is no way to uninstall sp2. Am I screwed when the final sp2 comes out? I understand you need to install previous betas to put final on.
At first the automatic update always tried to install the sp1 when i shut the computer down but it always failed, so i decided to download the service pack manually and install it cause i hoped problems with the windows calender, instant search(cant find anything)and the help&support would be solved. well they were not but not just that. right now every time i start the computer it tells me that i didnt activate my windows yet. so i have to type in the 25 number
long product key and wait for the online activation every time. really annoying. i tried almost everything uninstalling the update and many computer recovery tries but after uninstalling the update for like 1/2 - 1 h and restarting (without a activation needed) i tells me, sp1 was not uninstalled...............
I was having so much trouble with IE loading (it took minutes not seconds) that I switched to Foxfire in the summer. However I still have to use IE for certain client sites. It was taking forever to load but then seemed OK. Now not only does it take several minutes to load it also has a very slow response time when I click on anything. Sometimes I have to click on a web page menu item twice just to get it to recognize I clicked. It's not my mouse/touchpad. It's not my internet connection (blazing fast on another). I have tried so many tools/checkers. I've deleted cookies, files, history. I've deselected all add-ons. Just to click on HOME takes forever to be recognized that I even selected it. It gets worse. I can't even uninstall IE7. It's not under the control panel as a program OR not listed as a an update. I've tried going to MS website to try a fresh download but can only get a download for XP (I have Vista). Does anyone have any links?
