I subscribed to several newsgroups and retrieved the posts locally. It seems Windows Mail onlly retrieves part of the newsgroup posts. I cannot seem to find where I may configure to make it display all the posts which I can see via Web page. For example, I cannot see posts earlier than August, 2008.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI subscribe to two news servers in Windows Mail - one the MS News server and one a non-MS news server. The MS News server exhibits certain weird behaviour in that several groups constantly list a small number of messages not downloaded, no matter what I do, whether I mark all read, or use the catch-up function, or Get the next 300 headers. Also the "Show Replies to my posts" function goes awry - if I set the view to that, it works on the first group I set it on, but if I go down through the group list, without changing the View from that, WM does NOT display replies to my posts, I have to uncheck it and re-check it for each group.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI bought a new laptop with Vista 64 bit and am setting it up, etc. I have a problem with the newsgroup part of windows mail. I still have my old laptop and it still posts to the newsgroups via outlook express 6. I'm using it right now. Incidentally, Bellsouth/ATT is going to drop newsgroups next month.I have the same settings for the account in both laptops. This one is running XP pro. When I set up the acct on the Vista one, the headers came in asusual. Everything works as usual, except when I click on send, it doesn't send. I get an error message instead. I get this one: "windows mail could not post your message. etc...snip.. 441posting failed rejected by post filter port 119,secure (ssl): no, server error :401 error number: 0x800CCCA9" Is there a hidden trick to setting it up so it sends? I searched the net and one guy had the same problem and resolved it by changing the mimo to uuncode, or something like that, I forget exactly what they were, but I found them buried in a menur on my system somewhere, and made the change but it didn't fix mine.
View 8 Replies View RelatedVista SP1 install I had to reinstall (not restore) the entire system much to my regret. In the process I added a newsgroup account in Windows Mail and downloaded my regular newsgroups but could not find alt.binaries.food which I have been reading for quite some time (And in fact still reading it on a XP machine with OE so I know the group is alive and active).
After messing with it for over a day I chatted with EarthLink and other than to say its a "Vista problem" they provided no real help or direction. When I Google "missing alt.binaries.food and Vista" there are an amazing number of people with the same apparent problem description but no proposed or found solutions.
Then I added Thunderbird to the Vista system this afternoon and viola, alt.binaries.food is there alive and well. So it doesn't appear to be this computer but rather either something in Windows Mail or my setup. Does anyone have a clue? Or does this seem to point in some direction to the group?
I cant see any way to subscribe to this news group.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI would like to create a file/files that have my newsgroup settings from Windows Mail, that I can import the next time I have to reinstall Vista. Does Windows Mail make a backup file? I searched the Vista help files but the only thing I saw was the Windows easy transfer wizard---I would like to keep this file in my Documents folder, which I back up to an external drive--Windows won't save the file to the same hard drive like I would prefer. Is there any other way to back up my Windows Mail settings?
I see in Windows Mail, the Tools>Accounts button will give me a new window, which allows me to click Export, which will produce an .iaf file. Is this what I am interested in?
i just installed the latest windows live mail beta software client and i wanted to know how do i get junk mail to be displayed automatically ? before it would show automatically on the layout of the reading pane to the right of the message list but now i have to click to open them because they wont show in the reading pane like they did before

But the backed up mail listing does not display the mailing date but only the backup date. Only when opened the mail reveals the date. When browsing 1000 messages that is not a good way to find the one from a specific date. Is there a way to equip the list of messages as held in the Windows mail with mail dates?

I just configured Vista's Windows mail to hook up with my gmail account via IMAP. I have my emails stored in a folder structure (gmail calls them "labels"), which was recreated and all the emails downloaded. So far, so good. But then WinMail downloaded all 1700 emails again in the All Mail folder. I bought a small SDD drive for my new machine and do not want all the emails stored locally twice. How do I configure WinMail to synchronize my folders, but not the All Mail folder, and then I can delete the All Mail folder? Or are there any other options I can use?
View 7 Replies View RelatedAfter a couple weeks of pulling my hair out and threatening to go find that hammer, I found this site and the 200+ Tutorials. Below are the steps I took to get to a stable, working Vista Home Premium 32 bit. There is no new information here. Everything came from the tutorials and threads I read here before starting.
1. I made a backup of everything I wanted to save. Fortunately, most of my files were already on DVD’s from the old computer. I burned my Anti Virus, Anti Spyware and all the device driver updates I had downloaded during the ‘Insanity Times’. I also downloaded several of the Tutorials so that I could access to them without an Internet connection. I then unplugged my Internet connection. I used the recovery feature to reset the computer to its original factory installation.
2. After reboot, I did steps one and two from here: Speed Up the Performance of Vista
3. I next installed my Anti Virus & Anti Spyware. When setting up the AV, I set real time protection on and email scanning off. The Anti Spyware doesn’t load at start up as I let Windows Defender do the real time scanning. When installing programs I right click and choose ‘Run as Administrator’ rather than just clicking on the setup file. 4. I then rebooted. While the computer was shutting down to reboot, I plugged the Internet connection back in......................
I recently bought an HP HDX9000 laptop and it came with vista home premium edition. I installed Office 2007 Enterprise Edition and everything was working fine until Microsoft Update did something and now EVERY TIME i open ANY Office program it loads a window with a progress bar that reads "Please wait while windows configures Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007" that takes FOREVER to load!

What happens is that when i install vista (from usb) It restarts the first time, then it displays the message "vista is starting up for the first time or something" then I go to the next stage but there I get the error in my title. In my bios (DELL) i have only one option to change the harddrive from ATA to AHCI (or vice versa) and that is it and I have tried both options & same error.

View 4 Replies View RelatedToday I had a need to find some questions and responses that I'd sent to and received from, some of the MS newsgroups (including this one). It seems that Vista Mail has auto-magically deleted a large number of old newsgroup messages that I had previously downloaded to my machine, so I've lost that history. I've been through all the dialog boxes I could find and I cannot find any "delete downloaded news messages after ...." option. Odder still, if I use the Mail search tool to find messages, it finds some.
If I then go back to the message viewer, that gets refreshed and the search "hits" disappear from the found items dialog. Are old messages actually being deleted from the MS servers somewhere and my local cache is then being kept up to date by deleting the old messages? So the question is, "How do I prevent Vista Mail from deleting old newsgroup messages?".
I have a new system with the new Core i7 920 CPU (don't know if this matters :p) and with 6 GB DDR3 RAM (1333Mhz 6x1BG) running Vista Business SP1 x64. I intend to disable the pagefile completely and to use a dedicated USB Flash Drive for ReadyBoost.
- What size should this USB Flash Drive have? -I read somewhere that it should be a 2.5:1 ratio (in my case 15GB then) for high-end systems. Is that right? - Do I have to configure the device on every Windows Boot again, so ReadyBoost is going to use it?
My HP computer came with XP and an FM tuner. I was able to use media center to listen to over-the-air local FM stations with a "T" shaped antenna connected to the computer's FM connector. I have since upgraded to Vista Home Premium and more recently to Windows 7 Home Premium. I have been unable to configure Windows Media Center with either of these OSs to recognize the FM tuner. The 'Device Drivers' window shows I have the latest version of a "Hauppauge winTV HVR-1800(Model 78xxx, Combo ATSC/QAM)" sound driver. Am I doing something wrong? Or missing something? Is there ANY other program (or driver) that will connect to this tuner?

Windows Vista has a lot of pretty and nice graphics, and pretty colors, etc, but it is very difficult to find some thing there when you are lost and the folder systems is extremely complicated sometimes. I use Vista now, have had it for about two years now, and I still have difficulty finding the logic of the folder system sometimes. I don't think that my former Windows XP was so complicated (do people agree?) Is the new Windows 7 as complicated as Vista? (I do not have Windows 7 yet).

That is why some news severs are not caring this. I think. Here is my new server response. the idea is that there's discussion in alt.config, a proper newsgroup charter is written, there's agreement on the actual name (alt.config discussed alt.os.windows-7 last week), and someone sends a control message. This is necessary to ensure adequate interest and agreement.
