I just noticed on my fairly new HP laptop that Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit with SP1 is showing double listings for most of the installed programs in Programs and Features (ie the Add or Remove Programs in XP).What is wrong, what is the cause, how can I fix it?
I have had installed a Pentium D Extreme Edition 840 3.2 Gig CPU, in Device Manager it lists four CPU's, two as Pentium D 3.2 and Two as P4 3.2, is this what should be showing, or has the tech missed something in installing?
I have successfully installed my MSDN 64Bit version of Windows 7 Ultimate on a DELL Dimension 9100 PC. The problem I am having is with the RAM. The PC has 4GB of ram that shows up fine within the BIOS. When I go into the Windows 7 System Control Panel it shows as 4.00GB (3.50 usable). I can understand this will happen with a 32bit operating system, but this is a new install of the 64bit version of Windows 7 Ultimate. I have the latest BIOS version installed. My system spec is as follows: ...
Is it possible to obtain a comprehensive listing of servers and interpreters that are a normal part of the Windows Vista Operating System? These are the only kinds of programs I expect the Security updates to be fixing.
Servers = Programs included with the OS which accepts commands from the Internet or LAN external to My Computer. Interpreters = Programs which will execute any kind of source code whatsoever like HyperTextMarkUpLanguage HTML or Basic or C+ or Fortran or whatever.
I know of no other kinds of programs unless you can tell me now that may work ndependent of User Control. If I could ID these rouge programs running in the background it would be better than the security updates themselves.
I need to uninstall several programs from my computer that are not listed in the uninstall list under Control Panel. I do not have a lot of experience. I have an HP 64 bit system with dual processors and a 500 gig hard drive. Please how do I uninstall these programs? I have Glary Utilities with uninstall and it cannot find the programs to uninstall them. I can find the folders myself but deleting them doesn't uninstall them. The programs work and I can access them through shortcuts on my desktop.
I have a new computer with Vista HP x64. I have a problem somewhere which is stopping a successful boot - the screen hangs following the 'PCI Devices Listing...'. I have tried to re-boot from the original installation CD and I can hear the disk whirring but then it stops and boot-up simply hangs.
I want to go back to square one and re-format my hard disk and start again, but I don't know how to do this, because I don't know how to move past the point at which the boot stalls.
I wish to back up my Windows mail for later browsing while deleting the originals. But the backed up mail listing does not display the mailing date but only the backup date. Only when opened the mail reveals the date. When browsing 1000 messages that is not a good way to find the one from a specific date. Is there a way to equip the list of messages as held in the Windows mail with mail dates?

Is anyone else having problems installing this speific KB937287 update? I am unable to get it to stop showing up in my 64-bit Vista UE's Windows Update even though it was a success. All other today's updates were fine except one (KB937287 failed) and then rebooted, but now KB937287 keeps showing up even after successful installs.
So I just bought my 2nd Evga 8800gt card Superclocked Edition. I tried running SLI with it and when I enable SLI, I'm only getting 10 fps on 3dmark06. When I disable SLI, I'm getting a much higher fps running just 1 card. Is it some bug with Vista x64? Does anyone have any idea why this might be happening? I've tried everything from reinstalling the drivers to reinstalling the cards themselves. Both cards show up in my device manager and both are bridged. I can't figure out why this is happening.
I have a unused Audigy 2 ZS, and my mobo has Realtek ALC888 7.1 HD sound onboard...
Considering the following : - I want to do Photostory3 and Windows Movie Maker stuff high quality - I would still like to be able to play games like Ghost Recon, COD2 and Far Cry with surround sound. - I want the best performance, and the least headaches...
Which one should I use, the Audigy 2 ZS (and alchemy for EAX support) or the onboard (will I still have non-EAX surround in older games, and will it use too much my CPU for video editing?)...
I am running 64bit Vista, don't have many problems with it..... Wood touched etc. Recently I have been getting desktop ini files popping up everywhere, in file folders on desktop I don't know where they are coming from, and the world seems to continue to rotate if I delete them. Does anyone have any idea where they are coming from and more importantly
I just found this site by chance and it looks like it's going to be handy! I'm looking to buy a new system within the next month or two! This is the spec I'm looking at.....It's advertised as coming with Vista 64bit home premium (but that can be changed if I wish!). My question to you all is- "Are there any problems with Vista 64bit OS?" Ohh whilst I'm here, ATM I use Comodo FW and Avast AV with Windows XP. Can I still use both or those on Vista 64bit? if not what do you suggest? In a nutshell- I have heard all the rumours that Vista has loads of problems and I'm a little worried about making the leap (Should I be?)
I'm setting up my first custom build computer. My primary system will be Ubuntu or Kubuntu 8.04 64-bit (haven't decided which one yet)However, I do need Windows installed to run Photoshop/Illustrator CS3 and iTunes. That's it. I'll probably also need internet access to get stock images, tutorials, and buy stuff from the iTunes store. 64-bit or 32-bit Vista? I'm thinking about Home Premium or Ultimate.
The coordinate of the cursor in my Vista is not at the tip of the arrow, instead it is at the tail of the arrow. When I click a file name, the file underneath would be opened; if move the cursor to the edge of IE, the double head arrow will apear at the bottom-left of the edge.
I am experiencing what seems to be a common problem, but am opening a new post on the chance that I have missed something in the other posts that I've read. I am running Vista 64 bit Home premium and have an Audigy SE sound card installed. Suddenly, after a reboot, I have no sound at all. The system recognizes the sound card and the system information on it follows --
I've just installed another 2 Gig of RAM because Vista ultimate 64bit is quite hungry for memory. In the windows experience index I had a score of 5.6 out of 5.9, with the 2 gig of memory bringing it down to 5.6, the rest of the hardware scoring top at 5.9 I thought that by installing 4 gig in total my memory score would go up to 5.9 too, but can you believe it, it's dropped to 5.5!(BTW - exactly the same brand as the previous 2 sticks that were in there before Corsair XMS2 DDR2 TwinX matched PC6400)
I have read this stuff over and over and I have seen it change and I am still trying to figure it out. I have my hardware ready to put together my next "Home Grown PC". It will have a 64 bit dual core AMD card. A ATI Direct 10 compliant graphics card, 512mg and allow me to digitally connect to my 22" wide screen LG monitor. I have 4gbs of RAM (a pair of 2s). Oh yes, a loaded with functionality MSI motherboard that can handle a AMD quad processor if I want. So, I definitely, will want a 64 bit version of Vista. I have reseached and downloaded the 64 bit drivers needed. Some issues still there for my Canon Lide 50 scanner and syncing my Palm PDA. But, I will worry about it later.
I would love to get the Vista Ultimate, but to me, the cost is rather insane. Way to high for me, even though I work and am a student. I am looking at the Business 64 and the Home "Premium" 64. On the differences between them, it appears that the Home Premium version has a limitation of 16gb of RAM memory, while the Business edition has something like 128gb limitation. I have the full Nero Package, but there is backup and restore software with the Business Edition, not in the Home edition ?? The Business Edition does not come included with Windows Media Player and related technologies such as Windows Movie Maker, and a DVD creator as well as some "games". Aren't those games and the Windows multi-media products available for free download ?? Or possibly is it just telling the Business Edition to install them, like you would do now with XP. I am aware that every DVD is exactly the same, regardless of version, but it is the license that is entered that allows the installation to load and not load some features . I also am concerned about communication features that seem to be in Business that are not in Home ?? I know that the SP1 will be coming out shortly, so there might be some additional differences coming down...............
I have both Vista 64 Home Premium and Vista 64 Ultimate )on two exactly the same Asus computers. After I have put the computers into the sleep mode they immediately restart.::
I am trying to find, with out much luck, a good portable hard drive for my laptop. There are a lot of choices, but 99% of them have a disclaimer that they won't work with Vista 64 bit. I'm looking for something in the 320 to 500 GB range that I don't need a loan for! bought a Seagate FreeAgent and the package said "works with Vista". I went to their website for install instructions and found, in micro print, "no support for Vista 64, only Vista 32 bit". The statement on their packaging pretty much took care of their credibility and truthfulness!
I was wondering what you would recommend as being the best Driver Cleaner for Vista 64 Bit. I used to have one but since formatting I lost it and can't remember what it was
iv just ordered parts online for my dads pc and picked amongst other things for him these two items: TW3X4G1600C9D - 4GB (2x2GB) Corsair XMS3 Dominator DDR3, 1600 Mhz 512 mb Sapphire HD4650 He doesnt game so the graphics card is just purely to give him a picture on screen but this is going to give him 4.5gigs of RAM. He's only got Vista Ultimate 32bit retail while i have a Vista Ultimate 64bit OEM disk. So is it possible to send him my 64 bit disk and for him to install the 64bit version with his code so he can access all the ram hes going to have.
I originally had Windows Vista Home Premium 64bit installed on my computer. I wasn't given a restore disk when I bought my computer from Best Buy, luckily my brother had an old copy of XP Pro 32bit laying around, or at least I felt lucky when he came up with it after using Linux for a week.
My question is will I be able to switch from XP Pro 32bit back to Vista 64bit? I know jack about compatibility, if it isn't obvious. I've tried switching back to Linux Ubuntu 64bit but all I was given was error messages.
I currently own a Sony VAIO running on VISTA Ultimate 32bit. This version was upgraded from Windows VISTA Home Premium through Windows-Upgrade-Anywhere. Because of various issues with VISTA and my Laptop I decided to upgrade to a faster machine with 4 Gig Ram. I now would like to upgrade me VISTA Ultimate 32bit to VISTA Ultimate 64bit to remove the 3 Gig RAM restrictions.
Unfortunately no one at Microsoft could really tell me how to do this. This is a all a big mess and trying to find information is really hard. The company I run has a icrosoft Action Pack subscription and I now even have 10 VISTA Business/Ultimate licenses... but again... all for 32bit. I really don??t understand why it needs to be so hard to simply swap a 32bit acquired license for a 62bit one. It??s an unnecessary restriction. From a Microsoft Hotline I learned that swapping 32bit/64bit is no issue if I bought a boxed version of VISTA Ultimate. The funny thing is that the same Hotline told me months ago that there is no difference between buying a "virtual license" through Upgrade-Anywhere and buying the boxed version.
New Vista Home Premium 64bit user here. On my WinXP Pro PC, when I do the Microsoft Updates, I see Express and Custom update options. I like the option to install critical Express updates and be able to choose Custom updates for software or hardware. On my Vista Laptop, I don't see the Express and Custom options any more. Does Microsoft Updates for Vista Home Premium 64bit just install all the updates regardless now? Is there a link to an explanation of the new Vista 64bit update philosophy?
I am going to buy a new computer running Vista 64 bit Home Premium. I will keep my current computer running Vista Home Premium 32 bit. I will install the old computer on the 3rd floor of my house. Is there software available which will enable me to run and control programs, from my new computer, on my old computer.
