So I just bought my 2nd Evga 8800gt card Superclocked Edition. I tried running SLI with it and when I enable SLI, I'm only getting 10 fps on 3dmark06. When I disable SLI, I'm getting a much higher fps running just 1 card. Is it some bug with Vista x64? Does anyone have any idea why this might be happening? I've tried everything from reinstalling the drivers to reinstalling the cards themselves. Both cards show up in my device manager and both are bridged. I can't figure out why this is happening.
I just had a new harddrive put in, luckily my computer was under warranty. It is an HP desktop running Vista. Every so often my clock shows the wrong time. I figured out it happens everytime my computer automatically synchronizes my time. Somehow it is synchronizing it wrong.
In short, my control panel (Start>Computer) is showing I have an A drive, when I don't... And not showing my CD/DVD Burner, when I do. Any suggestions where to start looking? Tried uninstalling any information under Device Manager>Disk drives.. stilll no go. Removed the hardware, confirmed connections, restarted without CD/DVD, rebooted reconnected hardware. Power works to device, tray opens, does not show icon in control panel and does not play media CD's. As for the A drive I've no clue.
How can I get the XP search GUI within Vista Ultimate?
I despise the new Vista search. It assumes too much, takes too long and even when files exist, it returns no results. In a nutshell, Vista file search ****!

This is may be ridiculous but I'm new to this Vista-so-called Operating System I wish to know about and how to prevent any crash, broken, or anything wrong regarding the system This is a few question I wish to know more:
1.How can I change the directory name or folder to my desired name : C:...alias....I wanna rename it with my name to replace alias?
2.I have Avast antivirus program the case is my Security Center can not detect any antivirus installed on my computer how to verify that I have antivirus monitored?
3.I got a little matters to discuss I had Revo Uninstaller and I'm very happy to have it but yesterday when I processed evidence remover it may be an hour or so but when I check it again it already 100% and keep increasing to 101...102....106%!! whatta and when I check on my disk it also reducing the memory from 199 Gb free of 225 Gb to 56 Gb!!! I keep do nothing until the disk turns red then I stoped it and it back to normal 199 Gb! it may be no big deal but I just want to know why did that happen?
4.I got Mozilla Firefox 3 and sometimes when I open a new tab it stop for 2or 3 second than continue as usual I got a few add-ons installed is that a cause ? or other cause to make Mozilla and my internet connection via CDMA modem take longer than usual?attention this is only a little question among many more question Iwould like to discuss here in Vista because I think here is the absolute right place to do it!!
For the longest time, Vista seems to have been reporting my hard drive usage wrong. Most recently, it said around 23GB free (of a 200GB hard drive, 178GB after recovery partition and other). When doing a manual count I get nowhere near that. Just from programs, personal files, and system files I can find I get a discrepancy between actual and reported of about 30GB. Then when I just ran Windows Update (17 new important updates today), the free space jumped to 47GB. This obviously isn't a problem now (although over time the usage it seems to creep back up to where it was), but does anyone know why this happens? Is it really just cleaning up 20GB-worth of fragmented or old files as part of creating a System Restore point or something?

I just noticed on my fairly new HP laptop that Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit with SP1 is showing double listings for most of the installed programs in Programs and Features (ie the Add or Remove Programs in XP).What is wrong, what is the cause, how can I fix it?

my computer showing white screen. I maybe turn it on and a few minutes later it's completely white. Sometimes it showes first stripes, black and white. I've googled it but not found much so I went here to ask. For about 2 months ago I had problem with BSOD but re-installed Vista and it was OK. My computer is Packard Bell SB87 (something like that, not sure) and with Vista Home Premium.
I just bought my 'puter a few days ago and it had this problem. If anyone is still having this same problem, here's how I fixed mine...Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Cleanup Then just check Recycle Bin and run the program.
I just installed an additional 2gb of RAM on my system, but this is not showing in the Task Manager. It iniitally was not showing in either, but after installing SP1 Sys info was updated.
I have a really weird issue, here are the details.Firstly, as stated in the title i do have Vista 64 bit. Recently bought 2x2 Gig DDR3 1600 (corsair TW3X4G1600C9DH) with timings 9-9-9-24. My motherboard is an Asus P5Q3 Deluxe. This chipset (Intel P45) has know issues with DDR3 running at higher than 1066, but this has supposedly been rectified with a BIOS update which i have flashed, so not sure if that is relevant as my problem is not speed related.
Under system properties the ram is shown as 4 Gigs but in task manager it says: Physical Memory, Total: 2046. The usage graph shows about 1.1 used and is just over half-way full. Not sure if this is valid but i have a pre-release SP2, not sure if this could cause such a problem. CPU-z shows both modules are there, but shows total 4 gigs, however Everest only shows 2 Gigs. Screenshot below, hope this is not too big, but theres a lot of info to squeeze in.
I have and found this forum while I was trying to figure out how to switch from vista to xp. I have found a few thread on the subject, pretty much implying that there was no possible way (my computer has been bought last year in another country so my supplier cannot be reached easily). Many of the answers were asking: why switch from vista to xp? Well, personally, I am not a great geek, but I am amazed how much complications with softwares seem to result from vista. And the greatest of all, for me, is the incapacity to edit my movies (which was the main purpose of my purchase). According to what I experienced and read on other forums, Vista does not recongnize most of the camcorders (with Premiere or Movie maker) and I have been unable to install avid either... anyone has a solution for me? cheers!

I have Vista on my laptop. I need to connect to a wireless network which has WEP encryption with a 6 character pass phrase. Every time I attempt to connect Vista tells me that the pass phrase must be 5 or 13 characters long. The other users all have XP machines and are connected and working. There is no way to get the pass phrase changed.
my product key is on the certificate of authencity at the back of my laptop but when i try to enter it in microsoft powerpoint, word etc, it always says that it's wrong. i really need microsoft office before it gets blocked and when i go to help it says that it should check for a sticker at the back but it says it is wrong!
After using perfmon to determine what applications were hogging my internet connection at 2am every morning I found that AeLookupSvc and Appinfo were the culprits. After looking up what they did and deciding that it would be ok to disable them (!!) I did so, and now any activity that requires administrative privileges either does not respond, or returns the error "C:Windowssystem32services.msc The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it. Perfmon, services.msc, windows firewall, system restore, accessing my registry, none of it works. I can still run programs and serf the net, but anything that needs admin priv will not work. I guess what I need is some kind of workaround, I need to enable Appinfo without administrator privileges so I can get my administrator privileges back. I have never had a prolonged experience with something so clunky, so ridiculous, and coming highly touted from one of the largest corporations on the planet! This is only one (and the worst) of the many problems I've had. While playing warcraft I'll suffer from framerate issues with a powerful dual core until the cpu's decide "hey, he's got 6 fps, lets stop whatever we were doing and help him out" and my framerates will jump to 60. I spent an hour in the registry working on my latency issues, I spent 30 minutes in the registry fixing a fallout 3 console problem, svchost will decide to go surf the net in the middle of me doing something myself and lag the crap out of me. My computer has a mind of its own and rarely is it doing something I want to do too! If windows vista wiped my a$$ it would be a 47 step process and have to stop and ask my permission to ask my permission. I went to microsoft support for help, entered in my product i.d. in order to determine if I could get support help WITHOUT having to PAY $49, and it told me the number was for vista home premium 64 bit instead of the 32 bit I selected, well, ok, I went back and changed the option to 64 bit, re-entered the SAME exact i.d., it gave me a product i.d. format error......the same, copy/pasted i.d..... I went and did it two more times both ways including opening a new browser window laughing my ass off!!! Way to go microsoft! Your $230 billion dollar organization wants $49 from me to help me with your problems! I'm so glad I was so frustrated I laughed, otherwise my laptop would have traveled through the wall. ( I know, anger issues, but can you blame me?!?!) There's some more I could write if you're still reading, but my finger's are getting cold, I haven't typed this much since my senior design project.
i installed vista on my D: drive .. i was supose to install it on my primary C: drive ..is there any way to uninstall vista on my D: drive?.i'm running a ASUS P5K SE/EPU Motherboard.
I have 3 e mail address's and one of them is my default address, which is subscribed to a mailing list for my football team. I get quite a few e mails on this list and often send to it. For some strange reason tonight, when I try to reply to an e mail that has been sent to the list, it tries to reply from one of my other e mail address's rather than my default one. Yet when I do a new e mail its ok, and creates one from my default e mail address!
i bought this network attached storage drive from Maplin Dual SATA Network Enclosure : Network Enclosures : Maplin I tryed updating the firmware and got some message in German about how if i updated the firmware the network connection would be lost. i clicked ok and now after rebooting my drive cannot access it. i have reset it and cannot try to update the firmware again as there is not USB Port on the drive to access it directly from the computer.
I was currently fixing my folder i cons because they were yellow instead of green, i replaced the desktop.ini for all the folders. then i went to command prompt and typed this in attrib +r AdminDesktop and now he User is desktop: when i click it and i go to the top it says "C:UsersAdmin" : I tried viewing hidden folders but nothing.
When I receive a mail I sort it into personal folders (me, my wife, my son) Going into one of that folders I can see, ie 10 mails. All mails have different sender and contents. However, every mail I open, will always displays the same contents. i mean: I open mail nr 1 and I have the sender and the contents of mail 3. I open mail 7 and I I have the sender and the contents of mail 3.But in the list all different senders are shown. I am using Windows Mail (6) with Vista Ultimate.
What I worry about is that someone would take that as a response to his/her question (which was not supposed to be ),and subsequently got the bad advice, and I felt responsible to it. Can someone from this Forum check into the matter
It would seem like the wiring in my recently bought 'gaming' PC from eBay is shot. if you move the internal wires, around with the PC on (I mean, just poke the bundle of wires) all sorts can go wrong, if you move the fan wires, the fans come off and on and the graphic's card's power does the same. What is going on?? What can I do to sort this problematic wiring problem? I do not believe it to be the PSU. as if you poke the wires near to the PSU end of things, nothing happens at all.
I didn't seem to find a solution for this issue. I have a wallpaper that's 1280x800 and that's my monitor's resolution as well. I tried to have it "fit to screen" but the wallpaper ends up being at the upper left side of my screen (cutting part of the wallpaper). I've also tried the other available options tiling and centering but they all came out to be the same. I have to change the resolution every time I turn on my laptop in order for it to actually fit to the screen; change 1280 to another resolution and then change it back again to 1280 for it to actually fit. But even still this option doesn't really cover my entire screen (2nd picture: Top part
When I set this up I put my wrong server and now I can't send anything. How can I change this information? When I tried to send something it says that the host 'smtp' and 'pop3' is not correct. I didn't know who my server was so I just guest thinking that I could change it if it was wrong. However, I don't know HOW to change it.
message can not be sent. the authentication setting might not be correct for your computer. I can send all my emails except to one person, who also uses comcast as the server. I've called comcast before and they deny they are the problem even though my settings are spot on with what comcast wants.
I have a problem with the way my CD/DVD drive icons are showing up in the storage devices window. It seems that my machine is displaying the same icon regardless of the CD or DVD I put into my DVD drive. At one time, I put a Windows XP installation CD in my DVD drive, and the CD/DVD drive icon was replaced by the HP logo. I put another software or game into my DVD drive and I still got the HP logo as the CD/DVD drive icon. So I tried emptying all of my Prefetch files from my Prefetch folder, and I thought I solved the problem when I put the Windows XP CD into the drive and got the regular Setup icon. But when I put a different CD into the drive, the same Windows XP Setup icon showed up. And when I right-clicked 'Properties' on the CD/DVD drive Icon, in some cases there is no icon in the upper-left-hand corner next to the name of the CD.
