Nvidia Graphics Card On Wrong Partition
Jun 23, 2009I got a quad core gateway that has a nvidia 9600 graphics card. I upgraded to vista business (or thought i did) and it created a partition (c-1) and put business on there. So now it boots to the partition and I can't use my graphics card there. it only shows up on E.

May 15, 2010I recently tried to restore windows vista to original factory settings from the Recovery partition that came with my computer. However, I mistakenly made the recovery partition active because I thought that was part of the process. Now the computer is trying to boot from the wrong partition and thus saying things like "BOOTMGR missing press alt ctr del to restart" I do not have a recovery disk or the original installation. I have a recovery disk from another computer that I thought was going to work but when it showed me the recovery options it said it was incompatible with this machine. Is there some way I can access a command prompt so I can reset the correct partition through diskpart or something similar?

Oct 5, 2009I recently acquired a Dell Studio XPS 435 desktop with Vista Ultimate as the OS. My plan is to upgrade to Windows 7 in the next couple of months or so. Therefore I won't need the Vista recovery partition on the hard drive. I am trying to eliminate it and add to the C: drive partition. Looking at my drive 0 in disk management I have from Right to left a C: partition 683Gb NTFS with the usual Healthy (System, Boot, Page File, Active, Crash Dump, Primary Partition). Directly to the left is the Recovery or D: drive which is 15Gb NTFS marked Healthy (Primary Partition) and finally to the left is the last partition of 71Mb marked Healthy (EISA Configuration). No idea what that is. Right clicking in the Recovery partition gives several options including: format, shrink volume, extend volume, delete volume, mark volume as active, change drive letter and paths, as well as help.
My question is how to remove the recovery partition and then extend the C: partition. My first thought is to format the recovery partition, delete the volume and then right click the C: drive partition and extend it but I really need some advice so I don't screw up the whole disk. For instance I have no idea what if anything hapens to the drive letters.I think maybe what I am calling partitions are really volumes so you can see I am over my head here.

Jan 14, 2009I think I messed up my hard drive while trying to erase the EISA partition on it. It's a Gateway P7811-FX laptop with a single 200 GB hard drive. Before, I only had 1 main partition: the C: Drive (176.31 GB), along with the hidden 10 GB EISA partition. After making recovery disks, I followed this tutorial: Delete and Remove to Unlock EISA Hidden Recovery or Diagnostic Partition in Vista » My Digital Life
Following that, I went in Disk Management. The hidden partition showed up, but I couldn't extend the C drive to use the unallocated 10 GB, so I converted it to a simple 10 GB volume. Then I used Acronis Disk Director Suite and merged the two partitions. And now, I can't do anything in Disk Management. There's only one partition now (186.31 GB), but when I right click on it, there's no options to create, shrink, delete, or extend the partition. They were there before, but the only option that shows up is Help.
Under Status, it says Healthy (Active, EISA Configuration). I think I merged the partitions the wrong way, so now there's no "System, Boot, Page File..." partition. Everything is on the EISA partition. When I try to run Acronis, the program doesn't load up. I've tried using Diskpart but I can't create any new partitions either.
Remove The Partition D Which Is The Recovery Partition
Jul 26, 2009I've got a Hp computer that has Vista Home Premium 64 bit on it and I want to remove the partition D which is the recovery partition. I have factory backup dvd's, made my own backup dvd's and have a True Image of the drive with both partitions, so I think I'm covered. Anyone know how to go about removing the complete partition?

I'm looking for a Free Partition program to partition my external hard drive into at least 2 partitions. Does anyone know of such a program that's straight forward without all the bells and whistles? Also, would I set the partitions as Logical or Primary? Currently the drive is a Primary but if I partition it into 2 partitions what should they be?
Partition Tool: Not Shrink Partition
Mar 13, 2009My C: drive is 1Tb in size (931.43Gb), with Used Space of 73.8Gb and Free Space of 857.65Gb. I want to shrink the C: partition down to 200Gb, and use this just for my OS and App files - I'm running Vista Ultimate 64 bit. This would then leave me with a new partition of c. 750Gb for my data files and documents etc. However, Vista will only offer to shrink the C: partition by around 260Gb as a maximum. It will not allow me to select a larger size than this. I've tried turning off System Restore / Shadow Copies, but this makes no difference. Any ideas why this should be, and what can I do? p.s. I've tried using Acronis Disk Director as well, but whilst I can select a new C: partition size of 200Gb, when the system reboots, nothing has changed, so ADD won't work either.

Mar 30, 2008My vista keeps locking up after various amounts of time, no matter whether its just idling, or im making the computer work hard. As ive read on other topics, I think its a driver issue, but I just dont know what to do. I will try another fresh vista install tomorrow and get the vista updates quickly to see whether that helps the situation. I have ensured it isnt overheating like it did initially when I bought the system, and it is now a safe and low temperature in a running state. Ive re-installed, windows, and it froze after I installed the chipset driver. I contiuned, and found a sound driver wasnt digitally signed. However it still crashes. I have got the latest drivers for it. For it to crash, all i did was open recycle bin, from idle state.
SP1: Installed Updates It Shows A Windows Defender Update Installed Today
Mar 23, 2008I shouldn't be surprised but here goes....I checked today for SP1 on windows update.. According to my computer no updates available however updates were last installed on 03/13/08 and yet when you look at installed updates it shows a windows defender update installed today. I have been reading several posts on this problem and have noticed that Carey Frisch posted a link to troubleshoot and now here is a problem and that is none of these apply to me... Once again Go figure!! Running Vista Business 32bit here in the good old USA and of course the English versionVista is and has always been updated right on schedule....

Jun 29, 2009let me start this nightmare story i had just done a fresh restalled and spent hours on getting everything installed on pc all was fine working perfectly untill that is i installed vista service pack 1 from windows updates the update process crashed halfway through so i had the only option to restart my pc then came the blue screen of death and it metioned if you have any new hardware installed make sure all drivers are installed etc etc of course i know it wasnt hardware it was because of me restating my pc half way threw the service pack 1 and the full files not been installed threw the update process crashed was the reason for the blue screen but the blue screen had notes advising me to clear shadow memory in the bois and any other memory so i stupidly assumed this was channel mapping and bank mapping and put them all to zero please see jpeg of what i changed i basically disabled everything that was enabled and put all the mapping channels and bank channels to zero and now when i switch on my laptop i get a blank screen with no post no ...........

Nov 10, 2009I have and found this forum while I was trying to figure out how to switch from vista to xp. I have found a few thread on the subject, pretty much implying that there was no possible way (my computer has been bought last year in another country so my supplier cannot be reached easily).
Many of the answers were asking: why switch from vista to xp?
Well, personally, I am not a great geek, but I am amazed how much complications with softwares seem to result from vista. And the greatest of all, for me, is the incapacity to edit my movies (which was the main purpose of my purchase). According to what I experienced and read on other forums, Vista does not recongnize most of the camcorders (with Premiere or Movie maker) and I have been unable to install avid either... anyone has a solution for me? cheers!
Wrong Overclocking?
Feb 25, 2008I tried to overclock my memory ram from 800MHz to 1066MHz,big mistake ,my pc start to restart 5-6 times with many biiiiibs end after some more strange sounds and restarts fortunetly my bios autorecovered.Now when i start my pc with the rest messages...memory dualdual bios mbla mbla i see this to>-->CPUID: O6FB Patch ID 00B6.

WEP Key Wrong Length
Mar 23, 2008I have Vista on my laptop. I need to connect to a wireless network which has WEP encryption with a 6 character pass phrase. Every time I attempt to connect Vista tells me that the pass phrase must be 5 or 13 characters long. The other users all have XP machines and are connected and working. There is no way to get the pass phrase changed.

Feb 3, 2010After using perfmon to determine what applications were hogging my internet connection at 2am every morning I found that AeLookupSvc and Appinfo were the culprits. After looking up what they did and deciding that it would be ok to disable them (!!) I did so, and now any activity that requires administrative privileges either does not respond, or returns the error "C:Windowssystem32services.msc The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it. Perfmon, services.msc, windows firewall, system restore, accessing my registry, none of it works. I can still run programs and serf the net, but anything that needs admin priv will not work. I guess what I need is some kind of workaround, I need to enable Appinfo without administrator privileges so I can get my administrator privileges back. Thanks for any help you can provide, Tim **SKIP the FOLLOWING if you just want to help for said issue** Now time for the RANT: Jesus I have never been so frustrated! I have never had a prolonged experience with something so clunky, so ridiculous, and coming highly touted from one of the largest corporations on the planet! This is only one (and the worst) of the many problems I've had. While playing warcraft I'll suffer from framerate issues with a powerful dual core until the cpu's decide "hey, he's got 6 fps, lets stop whatever we were doing and help him out" and my framerates will jump to 60. I spent an hour in the registry working on my latency issues, I spent 30 minutes in the registry fixing a fallout 3 console problem, svchost will decide to go surf the net in the middle of me doing something myself and lag the crap out of me. My computer has a mind of its own and rarely is it doing something I want to do too! If windows vista wiped my a$$ it would be a 47 step process and have to stop and ask my permission to ask my permission. I went to microsoft support for help, entered in my product i.d. in order to determine if I could get support help WITHOUT having to PAY $49, and it told me the number was for vista home premium 64 bit instead of the 32 bit I selected, well, ok, I went back and changed the option to 64 bit, re-entered the SAME exact i.d., it gave me a product i.d. format error......the same, copy/pasted i.d..... I went and did it two more times both ways including opening a new browser window laughing my ass off!!! Way to go microsoft! Your $230 billion dollar organization wants $49 from me to help me with your problems! I'm so glad I was so frustrated I laughed, otherwise my laptop would have traveled through the wall. ( I know, anger issues, but can you blame me?!?!) There's some more I could write if you're still reading, but my finger's are getting cold, I haven't typed this much since my senior design project.

Sli:bug With Vista Showing Wrong Fps
Apr 22, 2008So I just bought my 2nd Evga 8800gt card Superclocked Edition. I tried running SLI with it and when I enable SLI, I'm only getting 10 fps on 3dmark06. When I disable SLI, I'm getting a much higher fps running just 1 card. Is it some bug with Vista x64? Does anyone have any idea why this might be happening? I've tried everything from reinstalling the drivers to reinstalling the cards themselves. Both cards show up in my device manager and both are bridged. I can't figure out why this is happening.

Jun 24, 2008I have 3 e mail address's and one of them is my default address, which is subscribed to a mailing list for my football team. I get quite a few e mails on this list and often send to it. For some strange reason tonight, when I try to reply to an e mail that has been sent to the list, it tries to reply from one of my other e mail address's rather than my default one. Yet when I do a new e mail its ok, and creates one from my default e mail address!

Oct 11, 2009It would seem like the wiring in my recently bought 'gaming' PC from eBay is shot. if you move the internal wires, around with the PC on (I mean, just poke the bundle of wires) all sorts can go wrong, if you move the fan wires, the fans come off and on and the graphic's card's power does the same. What is going on?? What can I do to sort this problematic wiring problem? I do not believe it to be the PSU. as if you poke the wires near to the PSU end of things, nothing happens at all.

I keep do nothing until the disk turns red then I stoped it and it back to normal 199 Gb! it may be no big deal but I just want to know why did that happen?

Wrong Time Showing
Dec 1, 2008I just had a new harddrive put in, luckily my computer was under warranty. It is an HP desktop running Vista. Every so often my clock shows the wrong time. I figured out it happens everytime my computer automatically synchronizes my time. Somehow it is synchronizing it wrong.

Feb 17, 2009I didn't seem to find a solution for this issue. I have a wallpaper that's 1280x800 and that's my monitor's resolution as well. I tried to have it "fit to screen" but the wallpaper ends up being at the upper left side of my screen (cutting part of the wallpaper). I've also tried the other available options tiling and centering but they all came out to be the same. I have to change the resolution every time I turn on my laptop in order for it to actually fit to the screen; change 1280 to another resolution and then change it back again to 1280 for it to actually fit. Mar 26, 2008I've got a really weird scenario: I've installed Vista on one of my partitions, after a few days it got corrupted, so i've installed another version on a different partition (different disk as well). I've since deleted the first vista installation. Now vista works perfectly on my other partition, no problems. However, when looking at the disk management I can see that the old vista partition's status is:" Healthy (System, Active, Primary Partition)" whereas my working vista partition is: "Healthy (Boot, Page File, Active, Crash Dump, Primary Partition)" My vista partition is not a system partition. This causes some problems, as I can't format the old vista partition. Trying to disable the disk at startup and booting with the Vista DVD doesn't help (it recognizes some problem but when rebooting, nothing happens, no loading of anything).Is there a way to assign the 'System' attribute to another partition and/or to remove the 'System' attribute from a partition?
