BOOTMGR Missing After Making Wrong Partition Active

May 15, 2010

I recently tried to restore windows vista to original factory settings from the Recovery partition that came with my computer. However, I mistakenly made the recovery partition active because I thought that was part of the process. Now the computer is trying to boot from the wrong partition and thus saying things like "BOOTMGR missing press alt ctr del to restart" I do not have a recovery disk or the original installation. I have a recovery disk from another computer that I thought was going to work but when it showed me the recovery options it said it was incompatible with this machine. Is there some way I can access a command prompt so I can reset the correct partition through diskpart or something similar?

Have tried to repair with MS system disk but still the same Is the problem in the BIOS, or will a Clean Install correct the problem? Missing BootMGR

Nov 21, 2008

My services were offered by my father to a guy to install a dual boot on his system. I have done this procedure before so I felt fairly comfortable doing it on a system belonging to a business. However, mid dual boot procedure I start recieving BootMGR Missing Press Ctrl + Alt + Del to reboot. Immediatly I hit google; however, all given solutions prove to be negative in fixing. The gentalman was supposed to have backed up his system for me, the words out of his mouth are "I'm doing as we speak". Vista came preinstalled so I have no Vista Home Premium x64 disks. So, I call up the guy and he says somethings came up and he couldn't make them but what ever I do make sure I get vista working again, don't lose his stuff. Now it's forget the dual boot just get vista back, but this damn BootMGR won't stop popping up. I'm at a loss of things to do.

BOOTMGR Missing; No Found In OS

Aug 24, 2009

I've tried to run System Restore, but it says that there are no restore points, which is odd as I've not turned this off.

In System Repair there are no Operating Systems listed.

I downloaded a Vista 32 disk via ImgBrn and have tried to run that, but I'm hitting walls.

I don't really have any files on the Gateway laptop, the kids just use it for homework and iTunes surfing the net.

BOOTMGR Missing At Startup

Dec 17, 2008

I get this BOOTMGR missing message at startup and with some Googling I found it to be a common issue. So I tried the solution suggested by a ton of differnt sites - startup with the Vista DVD and choose the Repair option. The problem is that at the next step, Windows Vista doesn't show up as an OS in the System Recovery Options window! It's just blank so obviously when I pick "Startup Repair" nothing happens. It also says "If you don't see your OS, click on Load Drivers to load drivers for your hard drive." But if I do this I have no idea where to look and what to look for!

Active Crash Dump Primary Partition

Jun 7, 2008

Using Vista Home Premium, tried Kubuntu. I removed Kubuntu but can't seem to reclaim the partion it was on. I go to Vista Disk Management and find 4 partitions on Disk 0: Recovery (D 4.12 GB Fat 32 Healthy Primary Partition This is the Recovery partition from Gateway.(C 183.14 GB NTFS Healthy (System, Boot, Page File, Active Crash Dump, Primary Parition) 185.34 GB Free Space no further info on this space I want to reclaim the 185.34 g back into the C partition. the only option I get on the Free Space drive is to delete drive or "new simple Volume". C: drive i get only the shrink option.

Deleting the drive won't help and I'm not sure what Simple volume does. The C: Drive has the option to Shrink but thats not going to work either! I tried repairing the problem using the Vista Setup disk but that didn't help either. I still have the Kubuntu disk not sure if there is anything there that would be helpful? I'm thinking i'll need something like Partition Magic, is there a free version of this type of software? I don't plan on doing anything with partitions after this so there is no sense in buy a product.

Installed Vista : Bootmgr Is Missing

Jun 5, 2009

My PC has two hard drives. Windows gave me the option on boot up of proceeding with either Windows XP or Windows Vista home basic which worked fine. I then Ultimate 32 bit over the XP installation and again all seemed ok. However, the other morning I switched on the pc and got the dreaded Bootmgr is missing message. I have tried fixing using the vista disc but when it says select the OS to repair nothing is showing. If i click next and then choose the repair option it goes through the process and then you reboot but the problem still remains. I have also tried the command prompt options but they make no difference either. The Bios recognises both my hard drives are there ok.

How To Recover A Missing Partition

Jun 23, 2008

When Partition Magic 8 fixed my hard drive at start up, I found that one partition missing after Vista SP1 was bootstrapped. From within the Disk Management tool, the missing partition can be seen in the lower list(it is not listed in the upper list). Vista displayed an error when I right clicked the properties of the missing partition. I am very frustrated with Partition Magic for causing such disaster. Despite trying some softwares to recover the missing partition, the problem persists.

Computer Making Beeping Sounds

Apr 15, 2009

3 days ago my computer started making very quiet beeping sounds, it happens mostly when I use Mozilla Firefox and Windows Explorer. My impression is that the sound is coming from the motherboard. When I restarted in safe mode the sound disappeared,

so after a very long elimination process I discovered that when I change control panel-power options-processor power management settings the frequency of beeping changes as well. Until now I was using balanced settings (min processor state 5% and max processor state 100%), if I choose high performance (min and max processor state are both 100%) the beeping becomes very frequent almost continuous, and if I choose power saver settings (min processor state 5% and max processor state 50%) I don't notice the beeping anymore but of course I don't want to keep using only 50% of my processor. I am using a desktop computer, not a laptop. Except for the annoying sound the computer works normally. I have Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit SP1.

Running Slow, Making Odd Noise.

Mar 23, 2008

I'm working with a Windows Vista HP Pavillion PC. No hardware has been modified. I'm not sure which version I have, I think I have all but the most recent update. ~I'm not sure if this is a hardware problem or not, but here goes. Anyway, about 4 months ago, my computer started acting odd. It would make an odd ticking, or clicking noise and start running slow. It sounds like an odd tick-tock noise. It seems to originate in the front of the computer, lower left side. Theres about a .5 second delay between the tick and tock noise. It keeps making that noise about every 3 seconds. It will seemingly stop and start doing this at random.

The slow downs are always associated with the tick-tock noise. I found out that when it's doing that, the computer starts functioning worse in general. Instead of running at normal CPU capacity, it limits itself to about 15% of it's power. Nothing huge is running in the background to suck up it's power. It just goes into "dumb mode". When this happened 4 months ago, I did a full system restore and that fixed it. Now it's happening again. I've already done a system restore. However, it doesn't want to boot up now. It's stuck on a please wait screen. So, has anyone suffered through this problem

How Can Windows Recovery Disk Making

May 19, 2010

The wife has a box with 64bit Vista and someone ran a registery cleaner on it and cleaned the registery so clean that the system would not start windows. It went through the screen that gave the choices for set-up, recovery, etc then the safe, normal, etc start screen and regardless of what chose it would go dark and windows would never start but the activity light would keep flickering showing it was trying to do something. I took it in and repair used the recovery disk to set it back to factory setup!! :-(Is it possible to make a to make a recovery disk (as the factory labeled it) of the way I get it set that would be like the factory recovery disk which has a rcd.dat file and an image directory on disk 1 and a rcd2.dat file and an image directory on disk 2 so if the thing crashed again at the startup options screen that has the recovery option I could just use my home made recovery disk instead of the factory ones??

I know I can make a backup but if the system will not get past the screen with the recovery option what good are they. Will accept any comments on backups as long as I can also get an answer to the original recovery disk question also. Would be nice if I could do this on wife Vista box AND my XP box.
