BOOTMGR Is Missing

Nov 3, 2009

I an running VISTA-32 and when trying to boot-up I get the 'bootmgr is missing' andpress cont/del/alt to continue...round and round back to same it goes. Have tried to repair with MS system disk but still the same Is the problem in the BIOS, or will a Clean Install correct the problem? I would experiment to figure it out myself but have already spent most of a day dinking with it!(Probably if I have to do a Clean install I will load Vista-64)

Missing BootMGR

Nov 21, 2008

My services were offered by my father to a guy to install a dual boot on his system. I have done this procedure before so I felt fairly comfortable doing it on a system belonging to a business. However, mid dual boot procedure I start recieving BootMGR Missing Press Ctrl + Alt + Del to reboot. Immediatly I hit google; however, all given solutions prove to be negative in fixing. The gentalman was supposed to have backed up his system for me, the words out of his mouth are "I'm doing as we speak". Vista came preinstalled so I have no Vista Home Premium x64 disks. So, I call up the guy and he says somethings came up and he couldn't make them but what ever I do make sure I get vista working again, don't lose his stuff. Now it's forget the dual boot just get vista back, but this damn BootMGR won't stop popping up. I'm at a loss of things to do.

BOOTMGR Missing; No Found In OS

Aug 24, 2009

I've tried to run System Restore, but it says that there are no restore points, which is odd as I've not turned this off.

In System Repair there are no Operating Systems listed.

I downloaded a Vista 32 disk via ImgBrn and have tried to run that, but I'm hitting walls.

I don't really have any files on the Gateway laptop, the kids just use it for homework and iTunes surfing the net.

BOOTMGR Missing At Startup

Dec 17, 2008

I get this BOOTMGR missing message at startup and with some Googling I found it to be a common issue. So I tried the solution suggested by a ton of differnt sites - startup with the Vista DVD and choose the Repair option. The problem is that at the next step, Windows Vista doesn't show up as an OS in the System Recovery Options window! It's just blank so obviously when I pick "Startup Repair" nothing happens. It also says "If you don't see your OS, click on Load Drivers to load drivers for your hard drive." But if I do this I have no idea where to look and what to look for!

Installed Vista : Bootmgr Is Missing

Jun 5, 2009

My PC has two hard drives. Windows gave me the option on boot up of proceeding with either Windows XP or Windows Vista home basic which worked fine. I then Ultimate 32 bit over the XP installation and again all seemed ok. However, the other morning I switched on the pc and got the dreaded Bootmgr is missing message. I have tried fixing using the vista disc but when it says select the OS to repair nothing is showing. If i click next and then choose the repair option it goes through the process and then you reboot but the problem still remains. I have also tried the command prompt options but they make no difference either. The Bios recognises both my hard drives are there ok.

BOOTMGR Is Missing, 'Bootsec /fixboot'

Sep 4, 2008

I messed up big time. I was increasing my virtual memory in my PC and when i was there set my C: to active. When i rebooted my PC i got a BOOTMGR is missing. So i went into repair via Vista installation disks and through the command prompt typed 'Bootsec /fixboot' then rebooted.

Then it said booting but didn't move. Then i decided to give up and do a reinstall, at expanding files i got the error Windows cannot install required files. Make sure all files required for installation are available and restart the installation. Error Code 0x8007000.

BOOTMGR Missing After Making Wrong Partition Active

May 15, 2010

I recently tried to restore windows vista to original factory settings from the Recovery partition that came with my computer. However, I mistakenly made the recovery partition active because I thought that was part of the process. Now the computer is trying to boot from the wrong partition and thus saying things like "BOOTMGR missing press alt ctr del to restart" I do not have a recovery disk or the original installation. I have a recovery disk from another computer that I thought was going to work but when it showed me the recovery options it said it was incompatible with this machine. Is there some way I can access a command prompt so I can reset the correct partition through diskpart or something similar?

Another Partitioning

Oct 4, 2008

Keeping data on a separate partition does not pose a significant advantage for me in terms of safeguarding the data, i.e., I backup everything on a daily basis. I also reformat on a regular basis and so the extra time needed to bring everything back to par is not an inconvenience - I actually enjoy it. Nevertheless, and here's my question, does having the OS on a separate partition really offer enough efficiency and performance gains to justify the partitioning? I realize this depends on how much enough is enough for my taste, but.

Ultimate 64 & Partitioning

Jul 10, 2008

I recently installed Vista Ultimate 64 into a brand new self-built pc. The HD is 1TB in size. Vista put some 'unmoveable' files in the middle of the HD, and, of course, I cannot now reduce the size of the C drive down to the size I want it to be, as the C drive must contain the unmoveable files.

Bootmgr Fix Through Dos Not Work

Mar 7, 2008

i have been running windows vista on my laptop for the past 8 months with no problems.... recentley i did something really bad and compressed my hard drive and it would no longer boot. So after much searching on the net i found something about bootmgr fix through dos, which i did but that did not work. Someone suggested slaving the hard drive to another machine which i did and it uncompressed..WAHEY.....or so i thought . When i put it back in the laptop it said Bootmgr is compressed so i put the vista disk and ran the startup repair.

this seemed to work for the first boot then on the second nothing happened it just would not boot so i put in the vista disc and an error message appeared, something along the lines of a hardware change has happened since the last boot and windows could not find the drivers. the hardware in question is the cd/dvd rewriter.......................so my problem is now how do i install vista on the harddrive when i can not get the disc to run in the drive? p.s i have formatted the hard drive so it is a clean install and RC1 of vista which i have will seem to run (have only tried it to see if it gets further than the real version)

How Can Partitioning Drive

Mar 18, 2009

My drive currently looks like this: I would like to take the unallocated space and Free space and turn them into a 40GB partition or otherwise add about 20GB each to the C: and E: drives. I tried the partition software here, but it wouldn't let add the free space and Unallocated space together. It would only let me format them into seperate partitions. It did say though that the Unallocated space is a primary partition, and the free space is a logical partition, if this makes any difference. The drive is 2 x 500GB drives in RAID 0, and I'm running Vista Business x64.

Don't Understand Partitioning Rule

Mar 26, 2008

I will be using 100GB HD for Vista. I have never partitioned a drive before. I do have Partition Magic but have not looked at it yet. I was wondering if it makes sense to divide the HD so Vista is on one part but the other programs install on a different partition. Would that make reformatting Vista easier? If it is a good idea how much should be allocated to the Vista partition. Can Vista do it adequately or should I use PM for making the partitions. As you can guess I don't understand partitioning rules at all!

Partitioning XP Created Partitions.

Aug 3, 2009

I just started running Vista Ultimate 64bit. I had a copy of Windows XP Pro, and I created all my partitions in that, when I upgraded I just formatted my drive C and installed Vista. I was told that I should not partition any drives that have partitions created in XP or earlier systems because it will cause the data to corrupt, due to the way Vista deals with the sectors of the hard drive. Is there any truth to this?
