Pictures Are Compressed.

Mar 23, 2008

About 25% of the pictures I have become compressed, that is, vista decides to smush the sides together so that I essentially have a column of color where I should have a picture. Entering Paint and saving the picture in paint solves the problem, but how do I keep it from happenning and/or fix multiple pictures at once?

Zip Compressed File Comprising Videos

Jul 29, 2009

I did something stupid. anyways. My friend sent me a zip compressed file comprising videos. So when I clicked open - it prompted me to choose which program I wanted to open the zipped file in. Since it was video files, I clicked on the Windows Media. Windows media could not recognize each file but I think reads it as a compressed file... so it gave me an error message. Now every .zip files that I download (be it videos or not), I'm obliged to open it with windows media player. How do I revert back to the way it was where I would double click and see each file inside the zipped folder?? I think I need to change the "open with" program under the properties, but I don't know where/what the previous .zip file/program is...

Bootmgr Fix Through Dos Not Work

Mar 7, 2008

i have been running windows vista on my laptop for the past 8 months with no problems.... recentley i did something really bad and compressed my hard drive and it would no longer boot. So after much searching on the net i found something about bootmgr fix through dos, which i did but that did not work. Someone suggested slaving the hard drive to another machine which i did and it uncompressed..WAHEY.....or so i thought . When i put it back in the laptop it said Bootmgr is compressed so i put the vista disk and ran the startup repair.

this seemed to work for the first boot then on the second nothing happened it just would not boot so i put in the vista disc and an error message appeared, something along the lines of a hardware change has happened since the last boot and windows could not find the drivers. the hardware in question is the cd/dvd rewriter.......................so my problem is now how do i install vista on the harddrive when i can not get the disc to run in the drive? p.s i have formatted the hard drive so it is a clean install and RC1 of vista which i have will seem to run (have only tried it to see if it gets further than the real version)

Missing BootMGR

Nov 21, 2008

My services were offered by my father to a guy to install a dual boot on his system. I have done this procedure before so I felt fairly comfortable doing it on a system belonging to a business. However, mid dual boot procedure I start recieving BootMGR Missing Press Ctrl + Alt + Del to reboot. Immediatly I hit google; however, all given solutions prove to be negative in fixing. The gentalman was supposed to have backed up his system for me, the words out of his mouth are "I'm doing as we speak". Vista came preinstalled so I have no Vista Home Premium x64 disks. So, I call up the guy and he says somethings came up and he couldn't make them but what ever I do make sure I get vista working again, don't lose his stuff. Now it's forget the dual boot just get vista back, but this damn BootMGR won't stop popping up. I'm at a loss of things to do.

BOOTMGR Missing; No Found In OS

Aug 24, 2009

I've tried to run System Restore, but it says that there are no restore points, which is odd as I've not turned this off.

In System Repair there are no Operating Systems listed.

I downloaded a Vista 32 disk via ImgBrn and have tried to run that, but I'm hitting walls.

I don't really have any files on the Gateway laptop, the kids just use it for homework and iTunes surfing the net.

BOOTMGR Missing At Startup

Dec 17, 2008

I get this BOOTMGR missing message at startup and with some Googling I found it to be a common issue. So I tried the solution suggested by a ton of differnt sites - startup with the Vista DVD and choose the Repair option. The problem is that at the next step, Windows Vista doesn't show up as an OS in the System Recovery Options window! It's just blank so obviously when I pick "Startup Repair" nothing happens. It also says "If you don't see your OS, click on Load Drivers to load drivers for your hard drive." But if I do this I have no idea where to look and what to look for!

Installed Vista : Bootmgr Is Missing

Jun 5, 2009

My PC has two hard drives. Windows gave me the option on boot up of proceeding with either Windows XP or Windows Vista home basic which worked fine. I then Ultimate 32 bit over the XP installation and again all seemed ok. However, the other morning I switched on the pc and got the dreaded Bootmgr is missing message. I have tried fixing using the vista disc but when it says select the OS to repair nothing is showing. If i click next and then choose the repair option it goes through the process and then you reboot but the problem still remains. I have also tried the command prompt options but they make no difference either. The Bios recognises both my hard drives are there ok.

BOOTMGR Missing After Making Wrong Partition Active

May 15, 2010

I recently tried to restore windows vista to original factory settings from the Recovery partition that came with my computer. However, I mistakenly made the recovery partition active because I thought that was part of the process. Now the computer is trying to boot from the wrong partition and thus saying things like "BOOTMGR missing press alt ctr del to restart" I do not have a recovery disk or the original installation. I have a recovery disk from another computer that I thought was going to work but when it showed me the recovery options it said it was incompatible with this machine. Is there some way I can access a command prompt so I can reset the correct partition through diskpart or something similar?

Boot Failure - Dual Boot Situation

Mar 23, 2008

I have more or less completed all the driver upgrades and windows updates but I keep getting repeated boot failures of Vista. I can always get into Safe mode but in Normal mode the boot fails just after the first spash screen at the point when the screen goes blank to be replaced by the small circular Vista logo. After 2 or 3 attempts it succeeds to load but then the problem seems to reoccur, particularly when I have been back to XP for a while.

I had a similar problem with XP but that seems to have sorted itself out. I have tired looking in the logs for faults and failures but no clues there. I am running an ASUS P5E MB with Intel Quad 6600, 4Gig RAM, GeForce 8800GT and 2x250Gig HDs.

Fix Boot Logo, BOOT Screen No Works

This is the best install I have ever done (or was)…I did a fresh install and followed a tweak which was to very enlightening, to say the least. From there I have been to a few other sites and moved on to fully customizing my desktop/login and……well…this is where I stuffed up…My BOOT screen no longer works properly, even with the original “winload.exe.mui” file replaced.

I downloaded and used “Vista Boot Logo Generator” I loved the results on my last install…It worked well. Upon deciding to do a fresh install with Tweaking in mind, I simply coppied over a Boot logo I made previously after allowing permissions and all that as well as changing the NO GUI in msconfig…ect….BUT......
