After using perfmon to determine what applications were hogging my internet connection at 2am every morning I found that AeLookupSvc and Appinfo were the culprits. After looking up what they did and deciding that it would be ok to disable them (!!) I did so, and now any activity that requires administrative privileges either does not respond, or returns the error "C:Windowssystem32services.msc The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it. Perfmon, services.msc, windows firewall, system restore, accessing my registry, none of it works. I can still run programs and serf the net, but anything that needs admin priv will not work. I guess what I need is some kind of workaround, I need to enable Appinfo without administrator privileges so I can get my administrator privileges back. I have never had a prolonged experience with something so clunky, so ridiculous, and coming highly touted from one of the largest corporations on the planet! This is only one (and the worst) of the many problems I've had. While playing warcraft I'll suffer from framerate issues with a powerful dual core until the cpu's decide "hey, he's got 6 fps, lets stop whatever we were doing and help him out" and my framerates will jump to 60. I spent an hour in the registry working on my latency issues, I spent 30 minutes in the registry fixing a fallout 3 console problem, svchost will decide to go surf the net in the middle of me doing something myself and lag the crap out of me. My computer has a mind of its own and rarely is it doing something I want to do too! If windows vista wiped my a$$ it would be a 47 step process and have to stop and ask my permission to ask my permission. I went to microsoft support for help, entered in my product i.d. in order to determine if I could get support help WITHOUT having to PAY $49, and it told me the number was for vista home premium 64 bit instead of the 32 bit I selected, well, ok, I went back and changed the option to 64 bit, re-entered the SAME exact i.d., it gave me a product i.d. format error......the same, copy/pasted i.d..... I went and did it two more times both ways including opening a new browser window laughing my ass off!!! Way to go microsoft! Your $230 billion dollar organization wants $49 from me to help me with your problems! I'm so glad I was so frustrated I laughed, otherwise my laptop would have traveled through the wall. ( I know, anger issues, but can you blame me?!?!) There's some more I could write if you're still reading, but my finger's are getting cold, I haven't typed this much since my senior design project.
i just noticed that my Volume Shadow Service is disabled and stopped. I know its used to create shadow copies of files and folders, but why is it turned off? Do i need to enable and start this service or its ok if its off? i never use shadow copies but still do i need it?
We are running an old CA program for our antivirus here at school. It is called inoculateIT. It has performed well for us, so we've never upgraded to their newer offerings. To install it, you use a remote install program located on the domain controller. I just bought the first Vista computer to try out here and upon trying to install this program, it cannot find the path. When this happened with XP, it was because the Windows firewall was turned on. I have turned it off in Vista and disabled the firewall service, but still get the same message. It shows up in the list of computers in the remote install program's browser just like it does in the active directory list. I just believe it has something to do with the security in Vista that is blocking it.
Reviewing Services on my Vista Ultimate 64-bit machine I noticed that the DNS Client is disabled? I have a wireless router configured to the laptop and to the printer and have for some times been experiencing disconnection problems to the laptop and loosing the printer connectivity completely until I unplug the router, wait, and plug it back in--which will restore connectivity until the next time.
Shouldn't the DNS Client be enabled? Also noticed in Services I found HP Network Devices Support is set to Automatic (Delayed Start). Could this be what is causing the printer (C7280 All-in-One) to write so many (hundreds in days) .log entries in WindowsTemp?
I have a vista HP set to recive auto update .This morning it shows to update XML core service 4.0 service pack 2 (KB936181) I did the update and few second later it shows the same update I did this 3 times and restarted the computer and it is still shows to update the same thing over and over.
I have the following error message when trying to login to vista on my laptop:
The User Profile Service service failed the login.
User profile cannot be loaded.
Just before the problem happened I was working to remove the Anti Virus Live virus from my laptop via the techsupportforum.com forum.
Two things I did within the hour of the problem happening are:
1. I ran the malware removal program OTL

Further details-I can and am able to login to Safe Mode I do not have a program called System Restore in the System Tools folder In Safe Mode I was able to change my password, but in normal mode I get the same error message I did windows updates and then tried to remove some of those updates, with only a few files that wouldn't allow me to delete them. Thank you for visiting my thread. If anyone has any ideas on how I can fix my problem it would be great to hear about them.
Also my Windows Search service does not start. When I try to start it, I get these errors in the event log:
1. "The Windows Search Service cannot open the Jet property store.
The content index server cannot update or access information because of a database error. Stop and restart the search service. If the problem persists, reset and recrawl the content index. In some cases it may be necessary to delete and recreate the content index. (0x8004117f)"
2. "The Windows Search Service has failed to created the new system catalog. Internal error <4,0x8004117f>."
I'm totally lost as how to solve this problem. I spent hours on the web trying to find a solution, with no luck sofar. Anyone here who has a clue how to solve this one?
currently i have been trying to backup my computer using complete backup on my windows vista ultimate but every time i try when i click the button it says

For the past few weeks I've been having an issue with an Apple made service called "Bonjour Service". That service is used in several pieces of software including iTunes (which I do not use) but also some Adobe applications (Version Cue for example) and the font management utility I use which is Extensis Suitcase 11.0.1 for Windows.
Both Version Cue and Suitcase depend on the Bonjour Service to work and I have had no issues with it for months but recently, the Bonjour Service stopped working and would not start anymore. It now gives this error message when trying to start it:
"('Bonjour Service' failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services."
My user account is an admin account so privileges is not an issue. I had made no changes to my system myself before the Bonjour service began to "refuse" starting but I remember that I installed a few Windows updates a couple days prior. My machine is always on and I don't re-boot everyday.
So I was wondering if anyone has heard of the issue and knows how I might fix it or if anyone can give me pointers on how I my start trouble shooting this and find what started preventing the Bonjour Service from starting. FWIW, the Windows Firewall is already off and turning off my anti-virus doesn't help (Eset NOD32).
I have and found this forum while I was trying to figure out how to switch from vista to xp. I have found a few thread on the subject, pretty much implying that there was no possible way (my computer has been bought last year in another country so my supplier cannot be reached easily). Many of the answers were asking: why switch from vista to xp? Well, personally, I am not a great geek, but I am amazed how much complications with softwares seem to result from vista. And the greatest of all, for me, is the incapacity to edit my movies (which was the main purpose of my purchase). According to what I experienced and read on other forums, Vista does not recongnize most of the camcorders (with Premiere or Movie maker) and I have been unable to install avid either... anyone has a solution for me? cheers!

I have Vista on my laptop. I need to connect to a wireless network which has WEP encryption with a 6 character pass phrase. Every time I attempt to connect Vista tells me that the pass phrase must be 5 or 13 characters long. The other users all have XP machines and are connected and working. There is no way to get the pass phrase changed.
my product key is on the certificate of authencity at the back of my laptop but when i try to enter it in microsoft powerpoint, word etc, it always says that it's wrong. i really need microsoft office before it gets blocked and when i go to help it says that it should check for a sticker at the back but it says it is wrong!

i installed vista on my D: drive .. i was supose to install it on my primary C: drive ..is there any way to uninstall vista on my D: drive?.i'm running a ASUS P5K SE/EPU Motherboard.
So I just bought my 2nd Evga 8800gt card Superclocked Edition. I tried running SLI with it and when I enable SLI, I'm only getting 10 fps on 3dmark06. When I disable SLI, I'm getting a much higher fps running just 1 card. Is it some bug with Vista x64? Does anyone have any idea why this might be happening? I've tried everything from reinstalling the drivers to reinstalling the cards themselves. Both cards show up in my device manager and both are bridged. I can't figure out why this is happening.
I have 3 e mail address's and one of them is my default address, which is subscribed to a mailing list for my football team. I get quite a few e mails on this list and often send to it. For some strange reason tonight, when I try to reply to an e mail that has been sent to the list, it tries to reply from one of my other e mail address's rather than my default one. Yet when I do a new e mail its ok, and creates one from my default e mail address!
i bought this network attached storage drive from Maplin Dual SATA Network Enclosure : Network Enclosures : Maplin I tryed updating the firmware and got some message in German about how if i updated the firmware the network connection would be lost. i clicked ok and now after rebooting my drive cannot access it. i have reset it and cannot try to update the firmware again as there is not USB Port on the drive to access it directly from the computer.
I was currently fixing my folder i cons because they were yellow instead of green, i replaced the desktop.ini for all the folders. then i went to command prompt and typed this in attrib +r AdminDesktop and now he User is desktop: when i click it and i go to the top it says "C:UsersAdmin" : I tried viewing hidden folders but nothing.
When I receive a mail I sort it into personal folders (me, my wife, my son) Going into one of that folders I can see, ie 10 mails. All mails have different sender and contents. However, every mail I open, will always displays the same contents. i mean: I open mail nr 1 and I have the sender and the contents of mail 3. I open mail 7 and I I have the sender and the contents of mail 3.But in the list all different senders are shown. I am using Windows Mail (6) with Vista Ultimate.
What I worry about is that someone would take that as a response to his/her question (which was not supposed to be ),and subsequently got the bad advice, and I felt responsible to it. Can someone from this Forum check into the matter
It would seem like the wiring in my recently bought 'gaming' PC from eBay is shot. if you move the internal wires, around with the PC on (I mean, just poke the bundle of wires) all sorts can go wrong, if you move the fan wires, the fans come off and on and the graphic's card's power does the same. What is going on?? What can I do to sort this problematic wiring problem? I do not believe it to be the PSU. as if you poke the wires near to the PSU end of things, nothing happens at all.

I just had a new harddrive put in, luckily my computer was under warranty. It is an HP desktop running Vista. Every so often my clock shows the wrong time. I figured out it happens everytime my computer automatically synchronizes my time. Somehow it is synchronizing it wrong.
I didn't seem to find a solution for this issue. I have a wallpaper that's 1280x800 and that's my monitor's resolution as well. I tried to have it "fit to screen" but the wallpaper ends up being at the upper left side of my screen (cutting part of the wallpaper). I've also tried the other available options tiling and centering but they all came out to be the same. I have to change the resolution every time I turn on my laptop in order for it to actually fit to the screen; change 1280 to another resolution and then change it back again to 1280 for it to actually fit. But even still this option doesn't really cover my entire screen (2nd picture: Top part
When I set this up I put my wrong server and now I can't send anything. How can I change this information? When I tried to send something it says that the host 'smtp' and 'pop3' is not correct. I didn't know who my server was so I just guest thinking that I could change it if it was wrong. However, I don't know HOW to change it.
message can not be sent. the authentication setting might not be correct for your computer. I can send all my emails except to one person, who also uses comcast as the server. I've called comcast before and they deny they are the problem even though my settings are spot on with what comcast wants.
I have a problem with the way my CD/DVD drive icons are showing up in the storage devices window. It seems that my machine is displaying the same icon regardless of the CD or DVD I put into my DVD drive. At one time, I put a Windows XP installation CD in my DVD drive, and the CD/DVD drive icon was replaced by the HP logo. I put another software or game into my DVD drive and I still got the HP logo as the CD/DVD drive icon. So I tried emptying all of my Prefetch files from my Prefetch folder, and I thought I solved the problem when I put the Windows XP CD into the drive and got the regular Setup icon. But when I put a different CD into the drive, the same Windows XP Setup icon showed up. And when I right-clicked 'Properties' on the CD/DVD drive Icon, in some cases there is no icon in the upper-left-hand corner next to the name of the CD.
I do remember this was an issue when I switched from XP to Vista. I solved it then, but don't remember the solution. Now I installed a fresh copy of Windows 7 64-bit and Office 2007 Standard and the issue is there again. All my received faxes are in My Documents/Fax/Inbox and those that I sent are in My Documents/Fax/SentItems. When I run the Windows Fax and Scan app, I can see all the faxes from my Inbox, but none from the sent items. Also, the ones in the inbox have all the wrong info in the list: the sender for all is Microsoft Fax and Scan Team, subject is Welcome to Windows Fax and Scan, the date is today, pages 1 and fax account Microsoft. so that I can see all my received and sent faxes and with correct information?
My wife tried to change the Username on the computer i put together for her. The only problem is that she changed the name somehow but it didn't change it in the OS. That is, when i go in through another user account it says the ORIGINAL name under users, NOT the name she made. Now the PROBLEM is that when the OS boots up it has her NEW name (that somehow didn't take), written in for the Admin account but the PASSWORD for the ORIGINAL account is the SAME (i.e. the password hint is the same as what i had made it originally).
Now the problem is that i can't change the USERNAME and there IS NO password for the name she made, cause it didn't take halfway through the process she said. The question is, how do i change the Username to the original name. that is, to the ACTUAL user name that is listed under users (the name she made is NOT listed under users).
