I recently went into Change Date & Time Internet time tab and chose a time standard to connect with. After doing that I went onto the internet and connected with time.nist.gov and checked the time. After that I was no longer able to go into the internet time tab. It tells me that time.nist.gov is the time connection and I can't change it. It tells me I need to have permission to do this as administrator. I am the administrator! What goes here?

Every time I open Windows Mail up, or the news groups, I get a message saying Windows mail isn't my default mail program, and asks if I want it to be. I click yes every time, but I will still get this message when I open Windows Mail again the next day. Everything's works OK after I click this message. No other errors or anything.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm running Vista Home Premium SP2, 2 GB RAM, SAS, MBAM, CA (California Associates) AV (e-mail scanning disabled); Avira AV/Update scheduler, CCleaner, and Windows Firewall, WLM on an Acer Aspire Desktop machine.
The system is running just great, however, I've always wondered why I need both the CA and the Windows firewall running at the same time. In CA I can create a list of website that are allowed thru the firewall, but I'm not sure if I can do that with Windows firewall.
Is it OK to disable the CA firewall permanently? Is there a way to specify
what is allowed thru the Windows firewall. And lastly, should I just uninstall the whole CA suite altogether?
I can't synchronize since 4 days with this server and I have no idea when windows synchronize the time with this server successfully lasttime.
I read some psot in some forums, but this posts were from 2007.
(The question is not "How to select another time server", the question is if someone knows something about time.windows.com)
Vista x64 business random computer freeze up issue finally solved: New video driver installed, end of november, new Vista updates in December, New Avast software installed December machine still freezes ONLY when connected to the internet with the Linksys wireless card so the answer is what is the difference between normal bootup and safe mode boot up? and the answer is services. There is a services conflict when the wireless network is activated If you have this problem, here is how I solved it, your mileage may vary!
Disable the following services:
Internet Connection Sharing
Multimedia Class Scheduler (Manual)
Network Connections
Offline Files
Portable Device Enumerator (Manual)
Server (Manual)
I also disabled almost all Vista tasks in the Task Scheduler, as I am not sure if a Task was interfering with the internet connection, though I doubt it. . . Now, when I boot up normally, the mainframe stays booted! must have taken about 12-15 hours of sporadic weekend hours to get it narrowed down. . .
I add then hit next, then crash. I send the info in but nothing. this is really aggravating.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm currently experiencing an issue with a Visa Business laptop where it had suddenly been taking approximately 20 minutes to boot, after running various virus scans and checking through the boot logs I was unable to find a solution and as such decided to reinstall Windows to resolve my problem. However, I have found that even after completely reformatting the drive and reinstalling Windows Visa I am still experiencing this extremely long boot time. I have observed that the long boot time does not occur if I select to boot in to safe mode, and for a large majority of the time when the computer is booting the hard disk activity light isn't even flashing with Windows freezing on some attempts while booting.
To attempt to see if this was a hardware issue I downloaded a copy of Linux Mint onto a DVD and booted from it, as expected it booted extremely fast (for a disk) compared to Windows. Being unable to fix the problem myself I have decided to finally request help from people whom would be more knowledgable in this area than me :P To assist in finding the resolution of my problem I have included a copy of the bootlog (I have disabled the drivers that do not load and have noticed no difference in the overall boot time).
Recently one of my hard drives underwent a bizarre process where it decided to revert back to RAW. After 4 days of problem solving I finally fixed the drives but also purchased 2 new/better drives. I run a RAID-0 Striping set-up. I have done every trick in the book to decrease the excess fluff from running in the background of windows vista but I still get delayed loading times. If I right click to attempt to create a folder or something such as that, the circular loading icon appears as it takes 2-3 seconds to open. And it does this with most everything, some things take longer than others.
I only ask what could be the cause of this because this never happened with my former drives or vista for the past year, it only started after the one hard drive crashed and it has done it since the fix and since the installation of the new drives. Everything use to open practically instantaneously....My only assumption is that there is something trying to load but I have tried disabling everything and it still does the same thing.
I'm not a newbie, but new to Vista. Everytime I try to send an e-mail in Windows Mail, the program automatically duplicates the address with the < and one. This is pretty annoying to say the least for recipients. I've tried typing in the address and hitting send quickly (on a test) but the program is too fast for me, it duplicates the address anyway. I'm getting complaints from recipients. What to do?

When I try to install additional 2Gb, I get a blue-screen every time I boot (some blue screens have an IRQL_NOT_LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL, most have no error msg). Is there a way to determine if my installation of Vista already has this installed? I've already checked the Control Panel/Windows Update/Review Update History, it's not in there, I thought it may be in the core install on the DVD?
View 9 Replies View RelatedEach time I start Windows Mail again, ALL my (150 or so!) folders and subfolders are opened (unfolded)!!! This drives me crazy... Apparently, this does not happen when I close my folders, close Windows Mail and start it again, but only when the system is restarted (not set into sleeping state with Windows Mail staying open, but really restarted). I have even unchecked the option to automatically open the folders with unread messages, though I would like this one to work like in OE, but it did not suppress the problem. I cannot find another option to NOT develop the folders... 99% of my messages were imported from OE, if it may be a clue...

Mediaplayer works fine and tells the used time for a movie or mp3 file but I can?t get it to show how much is left or the total length of the movie? the movie has run for 20 minutes and the total length is 1 hour 40 minutes >>>00.20/01.40 does anybody have an idea what to do to make it visible? View 6 Replies View RelatedCannot get Windows mail to connect to my Yahoo POP3 server. Contacted Yahoo and we installed telnet and successfully connected to the servers through there. Old computer had Outlook express connected to the same account and I had no problems. Have checked the setting numerous times to insure they are correct. Have tried different port 's and different configurations - get different error messages but still no luck. Have checked all the firewalls (only have one on) and it has been configured to let Windows Mail have full access.

and I don't get it. 'windows internet explorer has stopped working.' and then sometimes when I start it---the links are all missing. All I have is the basic IE7 with the Yahoo toolbar, latest version. The next time it happens, I will take a SS. I may have to go to FF which is not my preference. How do you get FF be the default browser for yahoo mail, for example?

I did have a few problems with Vista when I first got my computer, but after a couple of months of the odd freeze, I found Vista to run beautifully, with no problems at all.
I have learn't a lot with regard to computing and along the way have learn't to use the Vista OS, which I like enormously.
Having seen what Windows 7 offers, I don't see much that I would use, other than a few neat tricks here and there....
My question is, do I need to fork out the extra dollars for Windows 7 ?? ( I'd rather not ) And does anyone know how long Vista will be supported for??
I would hope I can hold on to 200 dollars for the upgrade and keep using Vista.
My impression, is that Windows 7 is pretty much a slightly improved version of Vista, which for me....is working beautifuly.
