Can Microsoft Get Windows 7 Out In Time To Save Its Desktop Domination?
Apr 24, 2008
I guess this will burn the behinds of many fanboys (frank included) but I told you that this would happen. At first no one believed me. but slowly people started to wake up, now its common knowledge, and only a few dorks cling the the worse OS microsft ever made. You all didnt want to listen then, perhaps you will listen now.
The question now isn't "Is Vista Dead?" It is. The real question is: Can Microsoft get Windows 7 out in time to save its desktop domination? I think Microsoft "could" pull it off. Here's how. Vista is dead............

Something has changed in my Home Premium system such that I can no longer save to the desktop! When I try, I get an error message stating " You don't have permission to save in this location." I do not recall changing ANY permissions to prevent this. I did have a problem installing Office Home 2007 and maybe that caused a change. Where do I need to go to set the permission back to allow me to save to the desktop?

When you are in explorer and are manually typing in a long folder path or at a command prompt navigating through many directories, below are two cool tips that will help you save time.
The first is one that I have been using for years. When working at a command prompt, instead to typing in the full text of an item, just hit the tab key to bring up full items. For example, say I want to change the directory to the Windows folder. At a command prompt I would type in CD wind and then hit the tab key and "Windows" will automatically show up. Think of the tab key as a kind of auto complete for DOS. This same technique also works in Windows Explorer.....

I recently went into Change Date & Time Internet time tab and chose a time standard to connect with. After doing that I went onto the internet and connected with time.nist.gov and checked the time. After that I was no longer able to go into the internet time tab. It tells me that time.nist.gov is the time connection and I can't change it. It tells me I need to have permission to do this as administrator. I am the administrator! What goes here?

UAC could certainly have been handled better. It does something the security industry has been well aware of for a long time - it creates the "cry wolf" problem of popup fatigue (people turn off or ignore the popups after awhile). Vista is more secure than XP, despite what others might say, but it still gets infected. Since over 80% of all infections are based on social engineering, the popups should focus on that weak point. If UAC targeted the key areas where people run into trouble (as opposed to harassing the user on inane actions), it would be far more helpful and potentially make a really significant impact on infection rates.
Absolutely right. A single request for permission doesn't bother most people. What gets under the skin is the second UAC prompt, and the third, and the fourth, and so on. The closer together those dialog boxes arrive, the more annoying the phenomenon. I was all prepared to lay out my modest proposal for how Microsoft should tweak UAC in Windows 7. And then I said, "Hey, wait a minute! I already did this."..................

I cannot open or save any attachment using windows Mail running Vista. I get an error message that says 'There was an error opening one or more of the attachment. Please check your free disk space and try again.' I have plenty of disk space. I have tried installing Windoes Live Mail, but I get the same message. I am using Microsoft anti-virus software. I was using AVG. I have read all the other remarks about this problem and have followed some of the suggestions but nothing helps. I have checked and unchecked so many times, I don't even know what I have checked any more. One day it worked and the next day it didn't.

In Windows Home Premiun I try to enter to any of the other and password asks me, I am given it and I tell him to keep the password. If I close the session or I put out it, again asks me the credentials.
In User Accounts I try to add a user and a new password and in type of alone document appears myself activated the second option. ..One credential of website or programs and not the first one that is the one that interests me. How do I be able access the other PC without me ask the user password and save that user correctly?.

I have W.Vista Home Premium & MS Office 2007. I am trying to insert my 'signature' into both sending and replying to my e-mails. I have followed the help instructions as I wanted to change the font to another style, colour etc. However 'Help' tells you to format your signature in a WP package and save in html format. Easy, I thought! In Word 2007 when you try to Save As - the html option si not in the drop down menu. so i tried in Wordpad, no luck ther either. how I save to html in vista? I had no problems in W.XP. Wish I had not had to change!

New Dell computer running that crappy Windows Vista system. After editing any JPEG in Windows Photo Gallery, I get a pop up that "changes to this picture cannot be saved because Photo Gallery has experienced a problem".
These are regular JPEG's that are on my desktop. They are not locked or funny file names, or any of the other obvious problems. Anybody out there able to help a cpu novice on this one? My wife is ready to throw this brand new computer away because of the problems running anything on Vista.BTW,pretty ironic, it is trying to block me out of this site, that it recommends .I go to with problems.

Like many others based on previous posts, am unable to open or save attachments in windows mail. I think my problem is exactly the same as "anhlyss" had in the posts in January. I am hoping there is an easier fix than restoring factory setting. As suggested in other threads, I have ensured that I have unchecked the "do not allow attachments to be opened" box in options.
If I click on the attachment to open it, the little hourglass pointer comes up, and then goes back to the arrow, but nothing else happens. If I try to save the attachment, I get this message: "There was an error saving one or more of your attachments, please check your free disk space and try again"

Vista, Home Premium, Windows Mail all of a sudden the button to Save Attachments under the Paperclip is greyed out for images such as .jpg I can see the image numbers/names listed but all in grey. I can still save them by rightclicking them in the preview pane but for a mail containing many pics that is rather cumbersome. For other attachment such as movies, powerpoints etc. the Save Button is NOT greyed out and works fine for quick saving...

I'm running Vista Home Premium SP2, 2 GB RAM, SAS, MBAM, CA (California Associates) AV (e-mail scanning disabled); Avira AV/Update scheduler, CCleaner, and Windows Firewall, WLM on an Acer Aspire Desktop machine.
The system is running just great, however, I've always wondered why I need both the CA and the Windows firewall running at the same time. In CA I can create a list of website that are allowed thru the firewall, but I'm not sure if I can do that with Windows firewall.
Is it OK to disable the CA firewall permanently? Is there a way to specify
what is allowed thru the Windows firewall. And lastly, should I just uninstall the whole CA suite altogether?
