Folders And Subfolders ALL Opened Each Time I Restart Windows!
Mar 27, 2009
Each time I start Windows Mail again, ALL my (150 or so!) folders and subfolders are opened (unfolded)!!! This drives me crazy... Apparently, this does not happen when I close my folders, close Windows Mail and start it again, but only when the system is restarted (not set into sleeping state with Windows Mail staying open, but really restarted). I have even unchecked the option to automatically open the folders with unread messages, though I would like this one to work like in OE, but it did not suppress the problem. I cannot find another option to NOT develop the folders... 99% of my messages were imported from OE, if it may be a clue...

When I go to START - FAVORITES the individual sites and subfolders appear in one list alphabetically. When I go START and right click on FAVORITES to open it in a window, the folders appear first alphabetically and the individual sites next on the list. The same thing happens when I have a site open and go to FAVORITES from the menu bar. The list is sorted first by folders and then by individual sites. I would prefer to see them listed as the second and third examples show but I cannot get the first one to sort that way. Pretty picky I know, but it is Wednesday after all.

I needed to force-restart my Vista Ultimate a short while ago. It was entirely frozen. Upon restart my time and date had been reset to December 31, 2002, 11:25 p.m. How concerned do I need to be about this surprising situation? Does this represent a virus? I have performed a complete virus scan (AVG 8); nothing was found. I have also performed a complete scan with Spyware Doctor. Likewise, nothing was found.

I recently went into Change Date & Time Internet time tab and chose a time standard to connect with. After doing that I went onto the internet and connected with time.nist.gov and checked the time. After that I was no longer able to go into the internet time tab. It tells me that time.nist.gov is the time connection and I can't change it. It tells me I need to have permission to do this as administrator. I am the administrator! What goes here?

i m using PC, when suddenly my computer just closed and went to a blue screen with loads of text and stuff, it said stuff like "if this is the first time it has happened to you, just restart normally" and "if you recently installed a software try system restore" something like that.. it didn't say a location from where the error was... like normal "blue screen of deaths", so i wondering if this is just a 1 off kinda thing or something more severe?

On Monday morning, as usual checking mail in office using windows mail, all attachment was able to open (through the paper clip icon or save into other location.
Then after lunch, all type of attachment (picture, excel, words, pdf.) can not be open through the paper clip icon. Then i try to save it and open again, these message pop up "there was an error saving one or more of the attachments. Please check your free disk space and try again", i can't safe the attachment.
If forwarded to other people, it's ok, open and view as normal.
Another thing I encounter, i can't open web based email attachment as well,
since I'd forward (to try) the office attachment mail to my personal account.
I try to save it, the saving process as usual, but when saving is done, the file was not saved at all.
I'm using Vista Home basic, Version 6.0 (build 6002: SP2)
Window mail Version 6.0.6000.16386 (vista_rtm.061101-2205)
I have Win defender ON, and AVG free edition, Version 9.0.708
Some said it's IE 8 causing the problem, so i uninstall it, the same problem happened.
now I'm using IE 7 (Version 7.0.6002.18005)

I'm using the Windows Mail that came with Vista Home Premium (Sp1). How does one increase the border between windows in Mail? The thickness of the border seems to be one or two pixels wide and it's a real pain to zero in on the correct place to resize a window. If this is a common question that has already been answered, forgive me.

I try to access folders under my name (set up as administrator), most of the time I get access denied. It is driving me nuts. I want to change the start menu and get rid of a bunch of garbage but I can't enter the folder to do so. When I use the start menu program, it only has a few basic folders. This happens frequently, even when trying to view pictures or video in the folder. What do I need to change to remove this very annoying problem?

Why, on Earth, that even my desktop computer which I've just recently re-installed windows XP is it annoying me with the yellow shield saying I need updates?! I just did it now and it said "done, now we need to restart" I click restart, it boots up and it STILL says I need to update! Could it be because, this computer ALSO has Microsoft Office 2003? If Office 2003 the problem, or is my luck just crap bad nowadays?

I haven't used Windows mail (only used to read news groups) in some time, when I went to use it this morning I received this error message; Folder could not be opened Windows mail could not open this folder. The possible causes are not the problem. I have 2 gig memory and it was working fine when I only had 1 gig of memory. Disk space, I have over 90 gig of free space.

This sounds like one of those Vista curses. I'm the sole new user of a home media center PC running Vista 64 bit ultimate. Privileges are of absolutely zero concern. So I try to rename a folder, call it MainFolder located in UserName | Music and which contains numerous subfolders created by Windows Media Player 11. I can rename the subfolders with no problem. But today, for the first time I tried to rename the MainFolder. I get a warning that I need permission, and to try again (which does nothing).
I right click the folder's properties and see that the read-only attribute is checked (not by me). I uncheck it and try renaming again. Same result, and on my returning to Properties, the read only box is miraculously rechecked. I click on Properties | Security and see that all are checked "Allow" except special permissions, which is blank. I click Advanced, and in the resulting Permissions tab I see the following:
Name Permission
WMP Network Service Full control
WMP Network Service Read
Username Full Control
Anyhow, All I want is For Vista to allow me or anyone using the computer to be able to use it without requiring passwords, secret handshakes, etc...

I've read several comments regarding the problem I have found about using windows vista mail, all with the same result - no useful solution. Having just moved from Outlook Express, I am accustomed to using sub folders under contacts. I set up subfolders in Vista contacts but they do not show up when I wish to forward an email using "To:" to select members of a folder, ie "family"
How inconvenient to have to search through all 300 or so addresses to find the 5 or 6 I want to forward to. "Family" is mixed in with all the rest. Creating a group is inappropriate when I do not want to send to ALL addresses in a group. Any news on a correction to this problem?
Or, is it possible to import Outlook from my XP system to use on this new one? The "work arounds" I have seen suggested are rediculous - this seems a serious flaw in the product to me! Any news of an improvement with SP2? (I have SP1 preinstalled) So far I find Vista NOT user friendly! Each problem requires hours of research to discover there is no solution...

Say you have a folder called "Indie Music". It has 300 subfolders with music files (say X, Y, Z, etc.). I want to delete subfolder Y and then have the focus go to X or Z (the previous or the following subfolder). But after deleting Y, my focus is jumping back to "Indie Music", every single time. How am I supposed to keep track of where I was within my 300 subfolders and know which subfolder to focus on next when all I can see is the parent folder? Also, when i rename one of my 300 subfolders, the focus stays with that subfolder after the rename. If I rename "GGGG" to "ZGGG", the focus has gone to "ZGGG", right at the bottom of the tree, and again I have no idea where I was before.
Basic housekeeping with these subfolders has become impossible. I have given up on arranging and managing my music, pictures, etc. and have to transfer all my work folders to another PC where I can work and also keep some sanity. Is there a setting to keep the focus on the previous or next subfolder after deleting or renaming instead of taking it back to the parent folder? I had no choice (Vista or XP) when I bought my new laptop, and I spent hours (that I don't have!) trying to find my way around Vista.

I have all my emails delivered to my inbox. I then (used to and would like again) move any mails I want to keep into a subfolder. What I did previously was right click "inbox", new folder, name it and there it appeared eg RC,type "vista" and a subfolder called vista would appear. If I then wanted to create a sub subfolder I would RC over Vista, type " problems" and that would then appear as a subfolder of vista...........

When I click on my windows mail icon, it won't launch unless I restart my computer. Then it will launch and works fine but if I close the program, it won't launch again. I also get an error message that says the following: Outlook Express at 0x0359399d referenced memory at 0x0000006c. The memory could not be written. Click ok to terminate the program. At the top of the window this message appears in it says the following Outlook Express Foldersync Window Class: WinMail. exe-application error.

I am doing a clean install of Vista 64 Ultimate SP1. At the partition screen I select load drivers (I obtained drivers directly from Gigabyte Support). Windows installs the ACHI10 drivers with no problem. I select ?Next? to begin the install. After ?Completing Installation? the PC restarts and proceeds to the black Windows screen with the green scroll bar. It scrolls two or three times and then hangs. I then go into Safe Mode where the computer hangs at crcdisk.sys. An error message then returns that says ?Windows cannot finish the installation?. My only remaining option is to try and repair from the CD. But when I select ?The repair option? the blue repair bar scrolls indefinitely. I actually let it scroll for over 24 hours?and it never stopped. Gigabyte tech support told me to remove all ram except 1 cartridge. I?ve tried that and did a clean install (deleted the partition and loaded the correct chipset drivers and the beginning of the install) yet the scroll bar still hangs.

I bought an Asus G50-VT with Vista pre-installed. There was some sort of glitch while I was overnighting the download of a long file. Anyway I wound up at what I can only say was the blue screen of death except now it's white. It told me that Windows could not restart and I should insert my installation disk to repair a busted file which it also named. Looked and I had no installation disk, indeed I did not have any Windows disks at all included with the machine. I called Asus Tech Support. They told me that Microsoft no longer lets OEMs ship the windows disks. Although there were two disks called "recovery disks" the TS person said my only option was to hold down f9 to rebootr and WIPE THE DISK AND REINSTALL WINDOWS! So I lost all my data and have spent all morning recovering.
Was Asus right? You do not get install disks anymore even though a system message tells you to insert it? I only have a few days in which I could return this computer. Do other manufacturers like Sony or Hewlett Packard supply Windows Vista installtion disks with their machines? Or is Asus right? If it is just Asus that does not do this I feel I need to return this right away.
