When playing any format of video file or DVD in WMP11 (or any other player for that matter) I get a vertical split in the middle of the screen with slightly different colour/contrast on either side. Any idea what could be causing this?

I have the problem is I get this graphic corruption, partically when trying to play any full screen game. It also happens when I try a high resolution, like the native resolution on my Viewsonic 2235wm LCD, of 1680x1050. Its just a display corruption as the sound will work in a game, and you can even control the game as well, with the corrupt display happening. Here is a picture. Does anyone have a clue? I have all the latest drivers installed, Nvidia, Creative, the lot.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm in the process of building a PC, so I thought I'd try the ole Windows Vista 64-bit version for the machine. I've got for the machine, a Philips 22" 220CW8FB/05 LCD wide screen monitor, which has a nice display, really.As one does, I've calibrated said monitor and saved the settings, everything looked great. Experience tells me to be weary of what might happen, so I restarted the PC to see that my monitor's resolution and setting aren't displayed properly. The image is stretched vertically,the Start bar isn't even visible - until - I go Personalize > and adjust the resolution to something else, select No when asked if I'd like to keep it and hey presto, my monitor displays properly now. Problem is, I have to do that every single time I restart the machine. Currently, I've got just the drivers that come with my components CDs, I haven't been able to check on-line for other versions (but there isn't one for the monitor) for say the motherboard or graphics card, because in one of typically brilliant Windows moments™ (like when my mouse stopped working and it prompted me to "click here to fix the problem"), when I tried to install the -Vista compatible- modem, Vista said it wouldn't install it without a digital signature, and that I should go to the manufacturer's website for more information. I would. If I had a modem. So, in your humble opinion, which is the bigger waste of money currently? Vista or my monitor (twice as expensive as Vista)? Alternatively, any suggestions as to how I would be able to resolve the aforementioned conflict? I'd really like to keep both of them.PS. I guess it could also be a graphics card problem. It's French (not really, it's from Taiwan, an MSI NX8800GT).

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'd like to put a little disclaimer out here: I know very little about computers. I can navigate my way around them as needed for personal/school usage. Outside of that, my knowledge is spotty. Most of the technical stuff I need done on my computer is done by my father over breaks/weekends, because I can't leave my laptop with the Tech guys at my school since I take notes for every class on it.
So now for the computer... Oi. The computer I have is a Dell Inspiron 1420. I got it back in May. It's running Vista Home Premium 32BIT, and I'm using Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007 (I don't know if that is relevant or not, but I'll include it just the same). Since I've gotten it, I've had more problems than I can count. The last problem I had before the current one (random BSODs), was a corrupt file on my computer (Dell Support Center). It wouldn't let me download or install anything, and I had to install SystemMechanic on my computer to get rid of the corrupt files/registries (I think. My father actually did this for me.) The SystemMechanic allowed me to uninstall/delete the corrupt file, and voila, it worked! For about two weeks.
Then I started getting blue screens of death. At first it was only one, and there were a few days/week and a half until I got another. And now, in the past two days, I've gotten at least two (I have left my computer sitting on my desk to do something and I have come back to find it "magically" rebooted and waiting for my login, or stuck on the black screen with the blinking underscore).

I had to take one out to make it load.I had no internet yet my properties showed that the LAN drivers were installed.My mouse was very.... jumpy and "laggy".I put XP back. I didn't have the patience to fu*k with it.I can't be sure that my "key" was good for the build. I just have an ISO. I can't see how that would jeopardize the load of the OS.

View 6 Replies View Relatedi got halo 2 for christmas and it said i needed vista. so i got vista and after i installed it i went on that thing that rates your PC's performance and it gave me a 1.0 this makes no sense because my computer is awesome. i have an extremely fast processor, plenty of RAM, and the second best video card available. and when it gave me a 1.0, it said that the cause of this was because my video card wasn't good. when i checked on "can you run it?" it said that i didn't have the video card that i had put in not long ago. so i am asking this: how come after i installed vista it said my video card was reverted back to my old one that came with my computer?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have an NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT video card installed on my new HP Pavillion dv7 1034ca laptop. It came with Vista Home Premium. So the first thing I did was intall Vista Ultimate. When I did that, the resolution was reset to 800x600. I reinstalled all the drivers, including the one for the NVIDIA card. When I went to change the resolution, I noticed that the highest I could go was 1440x900. Which is ok but I remember being able to go to a higher resolution when I had Vista Home Premium installed. The reason why I remember is because my icons are a bit larger now than they were before. What's bad is that 1440x900 is the highest I can go. What happened to my higher resolution?

Basically, my little cousins were messing with the computer monitor and whenever I boot the computer, it would have a black screen that states "Cannot Display This Video Mode, Optimum Resolution 1440 x 900 60 Hz. I tried googling up solutions and many of them said to go into safe mode and change the properties. However, I tried that and it didn't work. After I entered safe mode, it would still show the black screen that says "Cannot Display This Video Mode". So I don't know how I can select the properties or anything like that.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have seen postings with computers with 4GB where vista cannot see all the ram. I have a computer and recently upgraded to 4GB from 2GB. I already have a nvidia 8600GT video card. I dont get any display and sometimes the display comes and it shows 4GB RAM but lasts for 5mts before the monitor shuts down to no display. Any ideas how to fix this problem so I can get at least the display ? I dont mind reduced RAM since I am hoping to move to 64 bit if I can find all the drivers I need.
View 4 Replies View RelatedJust installed vista x64 SP1 with all latest updates, installed latest Shark codecs and K-lite codecs. Have no problem playing video files in Media player, but the same video files are not properly played in MediaCenter. They blink from time to time. It looks like a problem with codec, but after installing Shark and K-lite codec packs the problem still the same. May be Media center gets different codec. How do I change it?
My second question is: How do you add extra programs to Media center in vista x64? In XP MCE 2005 you could just drag desired program to the start button and prop it there and it would end up in MCE. It doesn't allow to the same in Vista MCE. If you drag the program to start button it will open MCE, but you won't find the added program in MCE
When I open a folder with a list of files for all View Options, the files are not listed in proper ascending sequence. I indexed the files to make sure that indexing may not be the factor in the Sort By Name not working properly. After the files were indexed, clicked the Sort By Name item in the View menu item, and the files are stilled not sorted porperly. Has anyone encountered this similar problem ? I suspect this may be a bug in Windows Vista File System. The folder had 87 files in it.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with the the capture of my video into Windows Movie Maker. I have now recaptured the video again after ensuring that all othe programmes on the computer are disabled, however the problem still persists. During the actual capture process the video runs at normal speed and there are no fluctuations in the speed during that process. I do notice that the capture display on the computer tends to stop and start from time to time, but I believe this is normal and does not indicate a problem.
Once the capture is complete and I play back scenes from my capture, then the speed of the playback varies all the time, sometimes running faster than original capture and again slower at other times. I am sure that I have read somewhere that this is not abnormal during the video editing phase. However the problem arises in that once you publish the video these speed variations are written into the published video and subsequently transfered to the DVD.

I know, though, about the 3GB limit of a 32bit system(I hear people say that Vista 32 utilizes (NOT recognize, but UTILIZE) 4GB of RAM, but I have yet to see any evidence that supports that, so I will stick to the idea that 3GB is the limit) I know that the 3GB=System RAM+Video RAM. I install 1 Nvdia 8800GT 512mb video card. System RAM reads 2.5GB. 3GB of System RAM-the 512 of the video card=2.5GB. goody gumdrops. I insall the 2nd Nvidia 8800GT 512 video card and enable SLI.System RAM reads 1.5GB? Shouldn't it read 2.0GB?? 3GB of System RAM-512 for card 1-512 for card 2=2.0...not 1.5...??? Where did the missing 500mb go? AND IF Vista 32 is supposed to be able to utilize 4GB, then shouldn't my RAM read 3.5 before SLI and 3.0 after SLI??? I have built and rebuilt, installed and reinstalled and I still come up with the same thing no matter what I try.
When I try and watch a utube video full screen...the screen just goes blank...how do I fix this? I have a inspiron 1720 and bought it to watch utube!!!! Please say it can be sorted!!
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm running legit copies of Halo 2 and Assassin's Creed, and they tend to crash my display driver/video card at any random old time. Usually around 5 minutes in. Less for AC. I know it's the display driver or video card or whatever because the game freezes with red squiggly lines all over the place, then the monitor says no input detected. The computer, however, is still running. I have Vista Ultimate 32bit, and an EVGA 8800GT. I can post more info if necessary. All my drivers are up to date and I disabled my onboard graphics in my bios so that only PCIE is outputting.

Mostly not a problem unless I am trying to get back to my ISP after researching something in the web, then I get a cannot display message and have to sign out and then back in again. What gives here? besides restoring to a time when these updates didn't exist? I may shoot this thing yet.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI recently had to reinstall Vista after a HD failure. Almost everything is working as expected. I do have tasks that I want to have run for long periods of time (usually overnight). I have set my power options to "never turn off display" and "never sleep". Screensaver is set to "none"
This works for shorter periods of time, but when I leave the PC overnight, I come back and my monitor indicates that it is getting no signal. The PC power lights are still on, but nothing I do turns the monitor feed back on (keyboard and mouse input have no visible effect). This is not a monitor sleep issue, I have confirmed that it is not recieving signal from the PC.
I've tested this even when my tasks are not running, so I know it isn't related to that. Also, I didn't have this problem before the reinstall. I'm concerned because the only solution is to cold boot, and that would be bad if the PC happens to be in the middle of a task, or a windows update or something. Other than the power settings and screen saver, what else should I be checking in Vista that might create (or prevent) this type of behavior?
i have a very strange problem. I don't know what reason is. When I want to open video file (.avi) automatically is opening in WinAmp which I just used before for audio files. I tried to use option "Open with.." but when I chose the program I want to use to open this file, icon of this application didn't show up in the window of recommended programs (windows where there are icons of programs which you can use to open particular kind of file) When open the program (Zoom Player), and I try to open video file, everything was working., but still I don't understand why I cannot set up this option for ever. Not every time to go to Zoom Player and from this program look for .avi's files to open.

I do have NTI CD&DVD-Maker 7x. Platinum Edition, and have tried to do this, but it does not recognise the .flv format. Is there a simple way of copying the video clip and changing the file extension of the copy so that it will be recognised by NTI CD&DVD-Maker? I stress, that I want a legitimate way to do this.
