I did rebuild, well basically did an upgrade! Had an ASUS Stryker 2 extreme. Well I put in a P6T mobo with a i7 920 and 12 Gigs corsair. With dual GTX 285's in SLI. Well for some reason I am getting 1.0 in windows video rating!
Have Vista running on Dell Inspiron 1720. All of a sudden I can't start Windows. Startup Repair can't fix the problem and System restore can't seem to solve the problem either. Am starting to panic. Newbie to Vista also so I am looking for your expertise/input to guide me in a computer selection...I am looking to buy a laptop. Do not need many bells or whistles, however, here are the specs: .......I have been told that running Microsoft Windows Vista on wireless will take "forever" to load with only 2GB on this computer. Is this true? My needs are very limited for this laptop, just looking to perform limited work on it...e-mail, small business folders etc. I apologize for my ignorance, as I said I am a newbie in many ways and hoping to learn as I go. Stumbled upon this web-site while looking for information on Windows Vista.
When playing any format of video file or DVD in WMP11 (or any other player for that matter) I get a vertical split in the middle of the screen with slightly different colour/contrast on either side. Any idea what could be causing this?
I loaded 5308. I had some difficulty with my dual PCI E video cards on installation. I had to take one out to make it load.I had no internet yet my properties showed that the LAN drivers were installed. My mouse was very.... jumpy and "laggy".I put XP back. I didn't have the patience to fu*k with it.I can't be sure that my "key" was good for the build. I just have an ISO. I can't see how that would jeopardize the load of the OS.
I bought a Diamond Radeon HD 3650 (1Gig) video card and on the box it says it supports Vista but it won't work. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
i got halo 2 for christmas and it said i needed vista. so i got vista and after i installed it i went on that thing that rates your PC's performance and it gave me a 1.0 this makes no sense because my computer is awesome. i have an extremely fast processor, plenty of RAM, and the second best video card available. and when it gave me a 1.0, it said that the cause of this was because my video card wasn't good. when i checked on "can you run it?" it said that i didn't have the video card that i had put in not long ago. so i am asking this: how come after i installed vista it said my video card was reverted back to my old one that came with my computer?
I have an NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT video card installed on my new HP Pavillion dv7 1034ca laptop. It came with Vista Home Premium. So the first thing I did was intall Vista Ultimate. When I did that, the resolution was reset to 800x600. I reinstalled all the drivers, including the one for the NVIDIA card. When I went to change the resolution, I noticed that the highest I could go was 1440x900. Which is ok but I remember being able to go to a higher resolution when I had Vista Home Premium installed. The reason why I remember is because my icons are a bit larger now than they were before. What's bad is that 1440x900 is the highest I can go. What happened to my higher resolution?
my bro just bough the xfx 4850 and 700w ocz power supply he didnt know how to install it so he contacted hp he has the m8430f hp said that the system might not be able to handle a power supply thats stornger then the one provided...so would it be a problem if i switch the power supply o 700w one and the 8500gt with the 4850? do i just uninstall the 8500gt drivers and switch the cards and the power supply and install new drivers to the 4850? hes running on vista 4bit i would really like help in the most basic form of words u can put it in because im not the best with computers (VIDEOCARD) Newegg.ca - XFX HD-485X-YDFC Radeon HD 4850 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards
I have a problem...i play Counter-Strike...and i need more and more FPS I have only 60 FPS....and it's not constantly....All settings on video card NVIDIA GeForce 6100 nForce 400 it's changed to high performance...and v-sync OFF.. Just installed vista x64 SP1 with all latest updates, installed latest Shark codecs and K-lite codecs. Have no problem playing video files in Media player, but the same video files are not properly played in MediaCenter. They blink from time to time. It looks like a problem with codec, but after installing Shark and K-lite codec packs the problem still the same. May be Media center gets different codec. How do I change it?
My second question is: How do you add extra programs to Media center in vista x64? In XP MCE 2005 you could just drag desired program to the start button and prop it there and it would end up in MCE. It doesn't allow to the same in Vista MCE. If you drag the program to start button it will open MCE, but you won't find the added program in MCE
I have Vista 32 Ultimate with SP1.Here are the rest of my system specs:XFX 780i motherboard--shipped with P02 bios, already updated to P04,which was just released, Intel Quad Core Q6600 2.4ghz ,4GB G.SKILL 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM 800 PC2 6400,2 XFX GeForce 8800 GT 512MB PCIe 2.0--SLI'd ,Creative Soundblaster X-Fi Xtreme Gamer PCI,WD Raptor 74GB ,Seagate 250GB,D-Link DWL-AG530 32-bit PCI Wireless Adapter ,2 Pioneer 20X DVD?R DVD Burner Black IDE Model DVR-115DBK , Yes the bios recognizes all 4GB AND the "My Computer" UI "displays" 4GB.
I know, though, about the 3GB limit of a 32bit system(I hear people say that Vista 32 utilizes (NOT recognize, but UTILIZE) 4GB of RAM, but I have yet to see any evidence that supports that, so I will stick to the idea that 3GB is the limit) I know that the 3GB=System RAM+Video RAM. I install 1 Nvdia 8800GT 512mb video card. System RAM reads 2.5GB. 3GB of System RAM-the 512 of the video card=2.5GB. goody gumdrops. I insall the 2nd Nvidia 8800GT 512 video card and enable SLI.System RAM reads 1.5GB? Shouldn't it read 2.0GB?? 3GB of System RAM-512 for card 1-512 for card 2=2.0...not 1.5...??? Where did the missing 500mb go? AND IF Vista 32 is supposed to be able to utilize 4GB, then shouldn't my RAM read 3.5 before SLI and 3.0 after SLI??? I have built and rebuilt, installed and reinstalled and I still come up with the same thing no matter what I try.
Does anyone have any idea of any fix for this. The systems totally locks up randomly when running a web video and or audio program and it seems to be in Media Player, iTunes and other programs as well. I am running Vista home basic on this machine but it does the same thing on my HP running Vista Ultimate as well. I go back into the error messages in the application, systems, and performance logs and can not find any suggestions on what the problem could possible be. I have looked through Blogs and find that this is happening on a variety of machines and configurations and versions of Vista and the only suggestion was to work in the config.msc utility and try turning off non Microsoft services that you can.
I just acquired what seems to be a really old PCIe ATI card that I can't seem to install correctly. I went to the ATI support site and the drivers for the card just don't seem to work. Is there a specific order to follow when installing a GPU -- sorry, its been a while. It doesn't go into a PCI slot but its the bigger one, looks like a big ole' AGP card but it has a sticker right on the card that says PCIe. I can only find the drivers for a Radeon HD2600XT and I'm not sure if those are the correct drivers or not. When I first installed it everything went well and it installed correctly but the XP hardware wizard wasn't satisfied. So it doesn't fully install -- note, I do not have the original discs -- but just need the most up to date drivers.

I have a quad-boot Intel CoreDuo machine with 4 GB of memory and an ATI AIW X1900 Radeon (multi-booting courtesy of EasyBCD). To put the matter as quickly as possible, all four systems (Vista 32, Vista 64, XP, and Ubuntu) have been happily coexisting for a long time. I haven't used Vista 64 for about 10 days and went in to do some work on it this morning. To my surprise, the video disappeared immediately after the green startup wait indicator. Eventually, after about the usual amount of time and hard disk activity, the startup sound came on but absolutely no video. I restored my full backup of the Vista 64 partition from last Sunday=97 same problem!
I went in on safe mode but it is impossible to change video settings or install new drivers in safe mode so that was a dead end. I tried the repair utility that comes with Vista but it could find no problem with startup. My working hypothesis is that something has gone wrong with the video drivers although that may not be the case. Even if it were, I can think of no way of fixing it short of completely rebuilding the Vista 64 system checked desperately do not want to do
who has purchased a JVC Everio HDD video camera has probably learned that they chose to use some god forsaken proprietary video format - the .MOD extension. Apparently this is some sort of MPEG2 encoding, however, most major video editing suites prefer not to accept this format? what we need is something more common? such as .AVI or .MPG. I would be happy with the .MOD file format if the software that came with the JVC Everio actually worked.
I have tried many video converters software with no luck so far, it?ll get halfway through the process, and then something will fail. Now a type of converter called *'Mod Converter' appears. Here I want to share the one regarded as the best on the market by most people. I also want to share the instructions about how to use it. Step 0: Free download *'4easysoft Mod Converter 'and install it. ...........
I am running Windows Vista Ultimate and when I stream videos from websites like Gametrailers.com as either a Windows Media or a Quicktime file the video is choppy and has sound issues. If I download the same video there is no choppyness and once the stream is no longer on HTTP and is on CACHE it is fine. I know i have enough bandwidth for the video and under statistics I does not show any errors .I have all the latest drivers and service packs. I have reinstalled Vista as both 32 bit and 64 bit to see if there was some difference. I also have this same issue on my Laptop running Vista.

I have a new motherboard (abit nh-m2sv), X2 +3800 processor, 2 gig pc4200 memory ATI graphics, DVD RW, Maxtor SATA drive, all are suppose to be Vista ready, but vista either won't install, or installs with BSOD's then will only run in Safe Mode. I have tried Home Basic and premium, the same issue, I install my old faitful XP and it goes straight in. I have run memtest, all fine, I have removed the gfx card, no change, I have tried an IDE hdd rather than a SATA no change.
For the last few days or so I have been having problems with Vista Home Premuim 64bit not shutting down properly or looging off. I click on shut down and then the computer will just hang for a about 5mins and then decide to shut off sometimes or if it does not then the only way I can get it to turn off is by holding the power button in, which I dont really like doing. I have closed all programmes down by the clock on the task bar and the problem is still the same. Do you recommend trying a clean boot? I really want to try and find out where this problem lies as I don't really want to go through another reinstall of Vista.
all started after an update for MS office + gfx driver and then all the problems began, mainly my PC won't start up properly, no signal to any of my monitors, my mouse and keyboard don't work, blue and green lights on my tower running constantly and fans on full. The only way I can get it to boot up properly is to do a hard re-boot(I have to leave it unplugged for at least an hour to do this) and has been like this for almost a fortnight now, I have already tried
1). restoring it to before the update. 2). CHKDSK. 3). repair with installation disk. 4). changing power options. 5). un-installed Microsoft Office. 6).updated to most recent nvidia graphics card drivers.
Can't think of what else at the moment but have been going through the forum and google to no avail.
We recently brought a laptop with Vista Home and have had on going issues with it not shutting down. Everytime we hit shut down it goes to the logging off screen but never actually makes it. We have left it running over night and come down the next morning and its still "logging off"! We have tried the Ctrl Alt Del combination to see whats causing the issues but the task manager doesnt load up. This has been an ongoing issue for about 3 weeks and have probably only had the laptop for a month.
Forceably switching it off, which we have to, causes the safety mode prompt to come on at the next start up. If we do not run the safety mode we arent able to use the internet as it doesnt connect. So, running it in safety mode is the only way to get things back to normal. I should add that when I start up in safety mode it goes to a black screen eventually with "safety mode" written in each corner. Ive no idea how to move away from this so just hit the main off button but we can get back on the net when it reboots.
Having read a few issues with shutting down it doesnt appear that anyone has the ongoing issue we do and as mentioned Ctrl Alt Del does nothing. On the rare occasion we have got it to shut down properly it reverts the next time. We run McAfee anti virus and as a fairly new laptop there isnt much that we have downloaded since purchase. I also have a desktop and never experienced this ongoing issue!
* Use Karmic's kernel, not Jaunty's. * Check that slmodemd is not running if you're seeing a dummy/null sink in the volume control applet. * Install linux-backports-modules-alsa-karmic (then reboot) if you have a very new computer. * Use a temporary alternate channel mapping for PulseAudio if you have an ice17xx-based sound card. * Configure PulseAudio to ignore your sound driver's misreported dB information if you experience "overdriven" sound. * Attach a verbose PulseAudio runtime log to your PulseAudio bug report. * Attach an ALSA codec dump to your linux bug report if jack sense (e.g., connecting headphones mutes internal laptop speakers) does not seem to function properly.
Que tal foro, perdon por el [OT] pero me han solicitado una unidad DVD-ROM con esa caracteristica y segun busco con varios fabricantes, pues a 20x escriben pero lo mas que leen es a 16x, alguien sabe algo al respecto?
I've recently installed AoE3 on my computer and it works fine, I can start it and all that. Though then I ran into some trouble. I can't make home cities! When I click the "create-button" it freezes for a while and then I come to the menu which is supposed to let you handle your cards and all that. Though there is no city chosen, and when I try to choose one the only option I can click is create new home city. I simply don't get it. One would assume that it's something wrong with the game, and yeah. Of course there is, but I tried reinstalling it and that didn't resolve the issue..! Then I installed AoE: Asian Dynasties thinking that a later update might have a fix, but nope. Problem remains. This is really starting to get to me... I'm at a LAN and I'm the only Vista user you see, though I've had it installed on this computer before so...
at some sites, the pictures don't download, but instead I get little square placeholder frames with a red x on them. I get this at Kohls.com and also Creativelabs.com. But other websites load fine. It only happens rarely. Especially since I'd like to see what I want to buy from Kohls I am using Vista with IE 8.0.
Ive got vista ultimate 64. With a standard computer. My problem is that I cant configure my mouse buttons. After I install the latest 64bit mouse driver, and click on the mouse icon to configure the mouse buttons, an error pops up that says - 'Some mouse settings might not work until you connect a Microsoft mouse to a USB port on your computer or set up a Microsoft mouse that uses Bluetooth technology'.
The problem is that I have a microsoft mouse that is connected to a USB port. The mouse works fine on my spare XP computer so its not the mouse that's faulty. I tried separate microsoft mice - wheel mouse optical and the intellimouse optical, both by microsoft and both have same issue.
I tried different usb ports and same happens. I tried the ps2 port and same happens. I uninstallled all mouse drivers and reinstalled but no help. Basic left and right click works but cant configure the wheel button. It was working a week ago, but I went for a holiday and when I came back it was faulty. All vista updates are installed, security is the windows firewall, AVG free antivirus, and windows defender, but none of these have been a problem before
I recently spilled something on my Microsoft intellitype pro natural ergonomic 4000 keyboard and, after letting it dry and all that stuff, it started to mess up the keyboard keys. Now, "f" types both "f" and "space" and vice versa, "o" brings up the "My favorites key assignment screen, "5" or "." brings up both a "5" and "." together and finally, maybe the worst, "comma" brings me to the last page I visited. (luckily, as I was typing this, I also found that the page is always exactly as I left it, so all the words I struggled to type so far are still there when I go forward in my browser history.) Now I play a lot of FPS games on this computer and this is very very irritating to me. Is there any way to fix this without buying a new keyboard all together? And here's what typing looks like for me without any editing: F or fgoodnessf sakes,f If thinkf myf keyboardf isf broken5.5.5. andf rememberf everyf "O"f goesf tof thef f avoritef f keyf listf andf everyf commaf goesf tof thef lastf pagef If wasf on5.
Every time I try to shut down my computer I get an error message saying something like the application 0x______(different every time) referenced memory at 0x0000000 that could not be read. I have done disk clean up, it did not fix it. What would cause this and what can I do??
why [question mark] because they are not workin, when i push the left one it does this kLJFS; but puts it way back at the beginning of whatever i was typing and turns on my caps and when i push the right one it does this ][iOURW! and if i had words in front of that [i had to do that in another program to make it nt erase all this] it gives me this W! and erases a bunch of stuff infront of it. this is really driving me nuts and i cant figure this out, i cannot unplug the keyboard because this is a laptop. i just bought this laptop like 3 days ago and it has been working wonderfully up until now.
