Video Card Not Installed Properly
May 29, 2008I bought a Diamond Radeon HD 3650 (1Gig) video card and on the box it says it supports Vista but it won't work. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Apr 10, 2008I have Vista 32 Ultimate with SP1.Here are the rest of my system specs:XFX 780i motherboard--shipped with P02 bios, already updated to P04,which was just released, Intel Quad Core Q6600 2.4ghz ,4GB G.SKILL 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM 800 PC2 6400,2 XFX GeForce 8800 GT 512MB PCIe 2.0--SLI'd ,Creative Soundblaster X-Fi Xtreme Gamer PCI,WD Raptor 74GB ,Seagate 250GB,D-Link DWL-AG530 32-bit PCI Wireless Adapter ,2 Pioneer 20X DVD?R DVD Burner Black IDE Model DVR-115DBK , Yes the bios recognizes all 4GB AND the "My Computer" UI "displays" 4GB.
I know, though, about the 3GB limit of a 32bit system(I hear people say that Vista 32 utilizes (NOT recognize, but UTILIZE) 4GB of RAM, but I have yet to see any evidence that supports that, so I will stick to the idea that 3GB is the limit) I know that the 3GB=System RAM+Video RAM. I install 1 Nvdia 8800GT 512mb video card. System RAM reads 2.5GB. 3GB of System RAM-the 512 of the video card=2.5GB. goody gumdrops. I insall the 2nd Nvidia 8800GT 512 video card and enable SLI.System RAM reads 1.5GB? Shouldn't it read 2.0GB?? 3GB of System RAM-512 for card 1-512 for card 2=2.0...not 1.5...??? Where did the missing 500mb go? AND IF Vista 32 is supposed to be able to utilize 4GB, then shouldn't my RAM read 3.5 before SLI and 3.0 after SLI??? I have built and rebuilt, installed and reinstalled and I still come up with the same thing no matter what I try.
ATI 2600XT PCIe Card Installed Properly But Not Working Properly
Dec 13, 2009I just acquired what seems to be a really old PCIe ATI card that I can't seem to install correctly. I went to the ATI support site and the drivers for the card just don't seem to work. Is there a specific order to follow when installing a GPU -- sorry, its been a while. It doesn't go into a PCI slot but its the bigger one, looks like a big ole' AGP card but it has a sticker right on the card that says PCIe. I can only find the drivers for a Radeon HD2600XT and I'm not sure if those are the correct drivers or not. When I first installed it everything went well and it installed correctly but the XP hardware wizard wasn't satisfied. So it doesn't fully install -- note, I do not have the original discs -- but just need the most up to date drivers.

I had to take one out to make it load.I had no internet yet my properties showed that the LAN drivers were installed.My mouse was very.... jumpy and "laggy".I put XP back. I didn't have the patience to fu*k with it.I can't be sure that my "key" was good for the build. I just have an ISO. I can't see how that would jeopardize the load of the OS.

Aug 27, 2008I have an NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT video card installed on my new HP Pavillion dv7 1034ca laptop. It came with Vista Home Premium. So the first thing I did was intall Vista Ultimate. When I did that, the resolution was reset to 800x600. I reinstalled all the drivers, including the one for the NVIDIA card. When I went to change the resolution, I noticed that the highest I could go was 1440x900. Which is ok but I remember being able to go to a higher resolution when I had Vista Home Premium installed. The reason why I remember is because my icons are a bit larger now than they were before. What's bad is that 1440x900 is the highest I can go. What happened to my higher resolution?

Apr 23, 2009I am running Vista Home Premium (64bit version) with Service Pack 1 & have admin rights. I have all the latest drivers (especially for my video card) installed.... I don't want ANY Vista effects AT ALL and have tried for the last couple of days to disable them... all efforts have failed.
A) System Properties --> Advanced (Tab) --> Settings.. (under Performance): I have deselected ALL the checkboxes in BOTH my admin account and also in my non-admin account (using elevated status)... the effects still come back!
B) Personalize appearance and sounds --> Window Color and Appearance : I have purposely NOT chosen any Aero scheme.. I've even tried the bare bones Windows Classic scheme.. still the effects come back... I've even tried changing EVERY single user on the system to a real basic scheme... the effects still come back! In the color scheme selection, under the "effects" button, I have deselected ALL effects!.. but still the effects come back!
C) I have tried "adjust for best appearance" & then "adjust for best performance" (with the intention of resetting the settings!).. the effects still come back! (initially at least they disappear, but as soon as I log out & log back in, or reboot, etc. they come back!) What is interesting is that in my admin account, I don't get any effects (yay!), so the settings DO stick in that account... but I don't want to run my day to day affairs using my admin account and my non-admin account (as well as every single other user on the system) has the bloody effects enabled!!

Mar 20, 2009I had my pc down for a day or 2 so i could move it to another room. When i stick my memory card in, the pc does nothing. But before it would. It had no problem recongizing it. I have 3 different cards and tried all 3 of them. Ive gone into device manager and its not in there, but says the device is working properly.I used my usb sd reader and that works fine. I was able to open all 3 cards and do whatever. y this would all of a sudden do this to me after working perfectly fine before.

Feb 4, 2009Just installed vista x64 SP1 with all latest updates, installed latest Shark codecs and K-lite codecs. Have no problem playing video files in Media player, but the same video files are not properly played in MediaCenter. They blink from time to time. It looks like a problem with codec, but after installing Shark and K-lite codec packs the problem still the same. May be Media center gets different codec. How do I change it?
My second question is: How do you add extra programs to Media center in vista x64? In XP MCE 2005 you could just drag desired program to the start button and prop it there and it would end up in MCE. It doesn't allow to the same in Vista MCE. If you drag the program to start button it will open MCE, but you won't find the added program in MCE
