After installing the latest updates one from HP and 2 from windows, both security and Vista update my cookie file no longer registers any. Mostly not a problem unless I am trying to get back to my ISP after researching something in the web, then I get a cannot display message and have to sign out and then back in again. What gives here? besides restoring to a time when these updates didn't exist? I may shoot this thing yet.
View 7 RepliesI have a persistent box popping up every four minutes that is entitled 'Interactive services dialog detection' and which says 'A program can't display a message on your desktop', but gives no means of dispensing with it. It happened after I tried opening Lavasoft's Ad Aware program. Never seen this before.
View 4 Replies View RelatedWhenever I access a particular application, a message box tells me that "A program can't display a message on your desktop." The details on the message box say that there is a partial incompatibility with Vista. I can close the message box, but it continues to pop up every few minutes. The application program seems to work fine, however. The message box is just incredibly annoying!!! My Windows services are set for "Interactive Services" to use the "Manual" Startup Type, but the status is currently started. MY QUESTION: Is this simply a notification box only? Will stopping or disabling this service cause any security problems.... or will it simply halt the notifications?

Got "show all hidden files" enabled" and in Search I checked "show all hidden....."; am logged in as administrator and still can't find cookie folders. Am on IE7 now but had Firefox for a while and suspect there are a few cookies left from Firefox I want delete manually; I know I can dump 'em all but I don't want to do that.

View 6 Replies View Relatedi recently got a hp windows vista notebook, (i am new to windows vista) after setting it up i connected to the internet to get software updates and once i was done this message came up (error in C:usersownerappdatalocal empvgscxaus.dll - missing entry:run) since this has come up, now when i log into windows the message appears instead of the main background with no desktop icons, so nothing is starting up has anyone out there every heard of this problem or have i done something wrong in the setup stage.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a large number of digital photos in HIGHMAT (.hmt) file format. I can't get them to open, now that I've moved to Vista. (WMP message is "can't open this type of file") I tried downloading the XP Highmat update, but it wouldn't install. I've looked on the net, but haven't yet found a solution. I have to find one, as these photos are business-related. Secondly, if and when I ever get them open, I'd like to change them to .jpeg. How could Ido that.

View 8 Replies View Relatedwhen i turn on my computer, an error message comes saying "Windows failed to load because a file is missing or corrupt File: Netio.sys Status: 0xc0000221" This started when i was clearing my computer of useless programs, and after i deleted Realtime player or Quicktime player, (can't remember which) an error message jumped from the taskbar saying something about Network device driver. After that every time i start the computer, the "Windows failed to load" message pops up. The first half a year, it was solved by pressing enter, to "Choose an operating system to start: Windows Vista" and then to "Windows error recovery (start windows normally, safe mode etc)" and back to "Windows failed to start", repeating it 3-20 times. Then i had a familiar "Unexpected shutdown" during a game, and now, the "Enter spamming technique" doesn't work anymore. All i can access at the moment is Windows memory diagnostic tool, and Bios setup utility. Is there any way to fix this through the setup utility or some other manner?

For example, if I want to search my C drive for all PDF files or all photos, the search function won't work without entering text from a file name (which doesn't work, because all files of a particular type don't necessarily share letters or characteristics in their names). View 5 Replies View RelatedWhenever I request a "File|Open" or "File|Save" from any application, the mini-Windows-Explorer dialog box that opens freezes and hangs the entire application. Happens with almost all applications. Not limited to just Microsoft programs. It does not matter if I like change the download folder or if I rt click always the same.
Back when it was under warranty Hp tells me to just restore to original settings. I hate to do that. But I am about to see that this might be the only fix for it. (But I am hoping not.) I think it started a long time ago when I was changing the USB ports I used for my external Hard drive and it changed drive letter. (maybe maybe not.. just seems I remember that being something that had happened when I first recall things hanging...) anyway I have all drives in the place I want them now and this issue still happens even if I dont have that external drive plugged in.
When I open a folder with a list of files for all View Options, the files are not listed in proper ascending sequence. I indexed the files to make sure that indexing may not be the factor in the Sort By Name not working properly. After the files were indexed, clicked the Sort By Name item in the View menu item, and the files are stilled not sorted porperly. Has anyone encountered this similar problem ? I suspect this may be a bug in Windows Vista File System. The folder had 87 files in it.

If I switch the View to medium or extra large file icons they appear normal and when I switch the view back to large, they again appear normal. But it created a file on my desktop which is corrupted and the original file is corrupted (neither will open). I cannot delete this file from my desktop or other location now and it has seemed to slow down my PC. View 8 Replies View RelatedI accidently hit some key combination that flip the display on my Vista laptop. Everything was upside down and the cursor moved in the opposite direction than what the physical moved. In other words, if I move mouse to right cursor moved to left. Not sure what keys I hit.
Left Hand: Maybe key or or or any two of these.
Right Hand: Maybe or or or
I did these keystrokes with one motion.
I had to use System Restore to get back to a normal display.
Can someone tell me what keys I hit and how to restore display?

View 9 Replies View RelatedPossibly not even a Vista problem, but this seems to be a pretty good resource overall so I was hoping somebody might have an idea what's wrong. I am running a pair of eVGA 7950 GT cards in SLI, no overclock anywhere, and I get a very odd display whenever I get into some kind of 3d game. I have attached a screenshot of HL2; however, this also happens in WoW so it's not game dependant. Any idea how I get rid of this crazy display? You can see there is some ghetto lettering that says SLI in the top left corner, and there is what could best be described as a green histogram along the left edge of the screen that "breathes" as the scene changes.
View 9 Replies View RelatedWhen starting up Vista, my display is always off to the left of the screen, meaning my start button is way off the screen and there's a black space on the right, like the display has simply been moved 2 inches to the left. I can fix it, by entering NVIDIA Control Panel and switch connector: back and forth between HDMI-HDTV (audio disabled) and HDMI - HDTV (audio enabled). but if the pc enters sleep or I reboot the problem is back.
Now I know the general problem because I had it with xp also, seems my monitor likes to tell my pc that it's a tv (I'm sorry I'm not into the tech lingo). And I've fixed it previously by changing codes in .ini files and ect. but I'd rather not do it on a new crisp clean first time install of Vista, anyone know of this problem and how to fix it for good?
I have a problem, for some reason when im playing games such as cod4 or gta4 or something. Il be playing fine for quite a long time, certainly a few hours but then randomly the screen will just stop, and the whole computer will freeze.
I noticed that on the frozen screen small parts of it had small purple lines going round them.
Well the only way to get out of this is to do a hard boot and start up my pc again.
Im wondering why this happens as i have all up to date drivers and my pc easily meets the requirements to play the games im playing.
I have two monitors: both work fine. However, somehow, while attempting to get the external monitor to display and not the laptop's monitor, I ended up with an extended view of the desktop on both. I don't need the desktop to be extended across both monitors.I simply want the external monitor to display the same thing as my laptop or have the laptop monitor be blank. I need an external monitor, because the screen on the laptop is cracked.
My laptop is a Toshiba Satellite and within one week of buying it at Best Buy, the screen cracked. (It was in a metal laptop case and did not sustain any trauma, so there is no reason for it to have cracked. Best Buy basically told me to stuff it and tried to charge me for an estimate when I brought it in for other problems with it. Toshiba has yet to respond to my letter about the problem.
All of a sudden the display on my computer got HUGE. i read the other discussions and used the screen resoulution to adjust it. It is small now but it apperars blurry or something.
