VISTA Hangs Or Stalls In First Screen

Sep 22, 2009

Toshiba Satellite vista home prem.sp2 32. 4GigRam 1.90bios

Ihave read all the posts in as many threads as i can find related to this issue and they seem to identify the utility chkdsk problems of some sort. I think my problem is not related to that and happens during the initial splash screen with the Toshiba/AMD on it with the solid bar that used to speed across the screen that now hangs, stalls or whatever at a point beyond half way. It can stay there for minutes and I dont know why. I have checked all the logs, events and the like and find no issues the diagnostics from toshiba and micro both come out fine. i use the couple of aftermarket utilities as well to find no problem but it does take loads of time. If it did it all the time I would wonder but this will zip across and move on to the next screen with the moving lights microsoft screen some times. It used to be the other way round; stall infrequently. I dont know what would be a worthwhile use of time to fix this if it needs to be fixed. It will take maybe 2 or 3 re boots to get all the icons to line up in the tray as well after one of these protracted boot up experiences. I dont know what to eliminate or bring back to the start up lineup. If I go the safe mode, it , of course, loads up like a jet. Something is going on there but I dont know what it is and would like any information someone with more experience and wisdom than I have can provide. and a fix if need be.

Vista Stalls And Reboots At Expanding Files Prompt

Feb 14, 2009

I have a customer's machine on the slab that had a corrupted copy of Vista installed on it and tried every rescue technique I could find (Vista recovery DVD, XP CD, WinPE and a few others) finally using Linux to backup the customer's files.

Installing from an OEM copy of Vista seems to be problematic at best, it stalled at 23% then rebooted, so I repaired the drive in XP and got to 56% before the reboot. So I nuked the drive with a slow format in XP and then it got to 70% before rebooting. It sounds like hard drive related but the customer's video card fan had dropped off so I suspect it may also be a heat related issue. Does anyone else have any ideas for the reboots?

Screen Hangs Following The PCI Devices Listing

I have a new computer with Vista HP x64. I have a problem somewhere which is stopping a successful boot - the screen hangs following the 'PCI Devices Listing...'. I have tried to re-boot from the original installation CD and I can hear the disk whirring but then it stops and boot-up simply hangs.

I want to go back to square one and re-format my hard disk and start again, but I don't know how to do this, because I don't know how to move past the point at which the boot stalls.

But nothing happens no matter how long I leave it. There is no sign of activity.

Installer Just Hangs At The Splash Screen

Jun 12, 2008

I've been trying to install my audio recording software(Cubase) but the installer just hangs at the splash screen before I can do anything. It used to install fine on my XP machine and it's said to be compatible with Vista.I'm on a q6600 with 4gb of ram and running Home premium.Running it with xp compatibility mode doesn't work and neither does running it with admin rights(I'm on admin account anyway).I also tried it with UAC off.But it works on my friend's dell xps laptop with vista home premium, installs and runs fine.Doesn't hang on the installer splash screen.Naturally this made me think it was due to my hardware BUT I actually got the installer working in vista home premium under MS Virtual pc 2007.I've also tried booting up into safe mode and trying it to no avail.

Cannot Download Anything - Connection Stalls

Dec 18, 2008

I am at my wits end. I have searched every single board out there and I see that some people have similar problems and I have tried almost every single recommendation out there and still nothing has worked. I have been on the phone with my ISP for days... nothing.

I am just shy of uninstalling vista and reverting back to XP... but I kind of like Vista so I don't want to do that.

System:
Acer Laptop
Vista Ultimate 64
Marvell Yukon 88E5053 PCI-E Ethernet Controller
I do NOT have wireless... I am wired with my ethernet cable directly to the laptop from my router.

Up until a week ago, I never had an issue with any connection or downloads. Everything was quick/easy/efficient. A week ago I noticed my connection kept dropping on my internet. We were having a storm and thought maybe that was the reason but then it kept happening. Called my ISP they sent a 2nd level technician out and said nope no problems on my line.

The connection kept dropping every so often. I could browse no problem and then after about 10 minutes couldn't open a new page, connection dropped. When I try to download something the connection stalls. Something simple like a Vista update or a document from gmail... stalls the connection.
I have disconnect the connection and then reconnect because my computer and DSL line still think I am connected when in fact I am not. (If I only have the download window open and nothing else, I can download but it takes a really long time........

VISTA Hangs 20 Minutes, LanmanServer Starting

Feb 20, 2009

VISTA takes a few seconds more or less than 20 minutes to be ready to use each time my computer is powered up or VISTA is restarted. Under the Task Manager, Services Tab during that 20 minutes, LanmanServer is in "Starting" mode while other services are Running or Stopped. Also the connection icon in the lower right corner of the screen has a red X. After 20 minutes LanmanServer runs, the red X becomes a blue circle and the system becomes fully functional.

Solution: Use Regedit in administrator mode to:

1) Change entries in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesSpooler. Click on "DependsOnService". Add three separate lines:..........

VISTA Ultimate Fresh Reformat Clean Installation Failure - Hangs...

Jul 29, 2009

I've got a serious problem. I decided to do a fresh installation of Vista Ultimate on my $4000 Asus VX2S Lamborghini notebook (which I got after getting a nice pay bonus back in 2007. Details of the Lambo are here: 'Techgage - ASUS Lamborghini VX2' It was very sluggish and took about 5minutes to loadup. It was slow in multitasking and hanged on Windows Media Centre operations. Played games ok tho - but needed a cooler.

Things improved a bit after I deleted some of the Asus bloatware mentioned in the unofficial asus notebook forum FAQ. Stuff like Splendid, TPM, Asus Protect, Asus live update, power4phone etc... But it still seemed a tad slow for a US$4000 machine, esp the startup and multitasking. I mentioned this to my friend a computer guru who advised me to do a format and fresh clean installation. He had a spare moment in the weekend so he formated C drive - including the recovery partition as I did not want the pre-installed Asus software.......................

Vista Not Always Booting Up - Post Screen

Sep 14, 2008

I have the gigabyte eP45-DQ6 motherboard. When booting up, or rebooting, even before I get to the windows loading screen, I get a black screen. Almost like the monitor doesnt turn on but the computer sounds likes on. I reinstalled due to some other issues, but the same issue with loading happens. ITs sporadic. Sometimes it does it, others not. I updated to v11 of BIOS, and it still does it. Otherwise its very stable. Is there a setting in the motherboard? Is it vista related?

Vista Not Booting, Black Screen

Nov 16, 2008

Vista not booting if the computer wasn't shut down right? It will boot till a black screen with only the mouse curser (mouse curser won't move though). I can get into safe mode and have always just did a system restore to an earlier time, but this time, even when sent back to the earliest point it still wont boot. I have Vista 32bit, have added no new programs, and am caught up with the upgrades (but added none recently enough for it to have caused it).

Does anyone know how I can repair the boot info without having to reinstall windows. I have already got ahold of the boot disk but that didnt fix anything. I guess it at least gets into windows but one of the first startup stuff is corrupt.

Doesn't Show Vista Log-in Screen

Jun 25, 2008

Yesterday I removed my ATI Radeon X800Pro card because it caused graphics issues. I rebooted the computer and it automatically switched to the nvidia GeForce 6100 GPU onboard graphics. It had a fairly updated Windows driver installed for it. I went to nvidia to download the newest driver. During the installation of that driver, the screen went blank. I waited 5 minutes and nothing happened. I restarted my pc and now it doesn't show the Vista log-in screen anymore. All I get is that little green bar on the bottom and then the screen turns black. All I can see is a tiny little green strip (of the log-in page) on the top of my screen. How can I fix that? I still got XP, which I am using right now. I tried to boot Vista in Safe mode but it got stuck while it was loading the drivers...

For some reason the screensaver switches on every 10 minutes even though I have set 20 mins as the time allowance and the screensaver appears as a blackened screen rather than one of the more deocrative options. I have tried re-setting the time/style several times but nothing seems to be changing ---- it becomes slightly irritating when watching media when the screen darkens every 10 minutes!

Blue Screen At The Installation On Vista 64 Bits

Mar 2, 2009

When I boot my computer with Vista 64 , I always get a blue screen with the
following error message :

A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage
to your computer.

If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your
computer. If the screen appears again, follow these steps :

Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driveris identified in
the Stop message, disable the driver or check with the manufacturer for
drivers updates. Try changing video adapters.

Check with your hardware vendor for any BIOS updated. Disable BIOS memory
options such as catching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe Mode to
remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select
Advanced Startup Options, and then select Safe Mode.

Thecnical informations:
*** STOP: 0x0000007E (0xFFFFFFFFC0000005, 0xFFFFFA600117F603,

*** fltmgr.sys - Adress FFFFFA600117F603 base at FFFFFA600115C000.
DateStamp 47919082

Same thing with Windows 7. But, with Vista 32 bits DVD, no problem. I
suspect my DVD burner to be the problem, since it make the hell of a noise
at the startup with Vista 64 an Windows 7 DVD's.
Thank you.

Initially, I had a bad stick of RAM. I have since RMA'd the RAM, and tested the new RAM. I'm not showing any errors with the new RAM. It does it irregardless of 64 bit mode, or 128 bit mode.
