my problem is that suddenly some of the entries disappeared from the menu that comes up in the start menu, I have googled to see it there is a solution and it was not, tried system restore, and I even replaced patched uxtheme (and other) file(s) to the originals. Ill attach my CBS.log from the sfc scan. Images of the problem below.
View 6 RepliesWindows Vista Business x64, 8Gb, SP1 We are missing the Restart/Sleep/Shutdown options from the Start menu. All we see is LOG OFF and LOCK. I am using the Administrator account. The prior IT guy left without any documentation. We have to use the [shutdown.exe -s -t 15 –f] command which works fine. But would like the standard GUI functions back. Any ideas where to look or how to bring back to resolve this.
View 3 Replies View Relatedim having a problem with the startup menu on vista x64. ive installed vista everything went great. after installing i lookked at the all programs menu it had loads of icons for the likes of media centre and other free vista apps. anyway ive installed drivers some of my programs done a windows update downloaded all updates come back to the all programs menu and am missing loads of icons. i havent a clue how this as happend. look at this pic and i have lost everything in the list thats above windows update
View 9 Replies View RelatedRecently i installed Vista x64 Ultimate and as i remember in startall programs there are two icons of internet explorer (32 and 64 bit) and WMP icon. Now that icons are gone. Is that because Opera is my default browser and Gom and winamp are default media players? Of course i think that this is not problem. I remeber that i deleted that icons from quick lunch but deleting them from quick lunch doesn't mean deleting tham from start menu, right? Wmp and IE can be started directly by typing wmplayer and iexplore in search but i want that icons back in startall programs!

View 5 Replies View Relatedmy computer its nothing serious its just annoying and i want to fix it. the icons on the right side of the Start menu are now shown as folders and not the fancy one and i miss that, i was wondering if i can change them back? this all started a few days ago i think i caused it by doing something with CMD and some files showed up and i was deleting alot of them cause they looked like they were unnessasary, i think i deleted something that shouldnt of been deleted. now im just trying to figure out how to fix it with using system restore because i dont have the a restore point to fix that problem my restore points are deleted.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI noticed last night that the icon was missing from the start menu for Spywareblaster. I'm not sure if it has been missing since I installed it, but I tried deleting the icon cache and uninstalling/reinstalling Spywareblaster, but the icon remains missing. If I right click on the shortcut within the menu and select properties-change icon, the correct icon is shown there. Not a major problem, just a bit annoying that the usual fixes don't seem to correct it.

View 9 Replies View RelatedSo basically, a few weeks after i got Vista i tried to install Stellarium (freeware astronomy program), which crashed my computer. I restarted, and after typing in my password I get "My Documents" open on a black screen, nothing else, no taskbar or desktop icons or anything. When i try to open the "taskbar and start menu" icon in Control Panel, nothing happens. Also, when I Ctrl-Alt-Del the usual screen comes up, but the task manager is no longer an option, and i can't think of how to access it or my taskbar. I've installed all the servfice packs and they haven't helped.

Now when I boot up my computer, it will boot up and then it will completely shutdown and restart again. When it shuts down, it gives me a blue screen and then says "Windows has been shut down to prevernt damage to your computer. bad_pool_reader". I can boot up in safe mode, but if I try to boot it up regularly, then this cycle happens all over again. What do I need to do to fix the problem (preferabbly without having to reinstall Windows/deleting all of my information on the computer)?

I've been to the Start Menu properties window, and under Privacy, I only have a single entry, "Store and display a list of recently opened programs". The corresponding entry for documents is missing. Furthermore, although I can check the one-and-only tick-box, the setting doesn't hold, and it's unchecked again next time I open Properties. I have a Recent Items folder (with the correct icon), deep in my User folder, but it's empty. I tried restoring the desktop.ini file from an early disk image, but although the restore appears to work according to the image program, the folder remains stubbornly empty. It's as though some system setting registry value has been set prohibiting the use or display of this Recent Items folder.
View 7 Replies View RelatedAfter working well for months, my Vista Home Premium x64 system has developed a bad bug: Every time I try to do Shutdown or Restart, right after displaying "Shutting down", the system crashes with a Blue Screen of Death message: "SPECIAL_POOL_DETECTED_MEMORY_CORRUPTION" with gdrv.sys as the offending driver. This makes it impossible to do a smooth restart, since I have to do a manual reboot at that point every time.
This behavior does NOT happen in Safe Mode, only in normal mode. That leads me to believe it's a software bug. But I've used verifier.exe and still can't find a driver that's faulty. Verifier.exe can't find anything wrong with gdrv.sys.
I just installed SP1 and now the "Search" option is missing from my Start Menu. I checked in the Taskbar and Start Menu settings in the control panel and the options are checked. I'm running Vista Home Premium on a Gateway GT5238E with dual processor and 2 gig RAM. Is anyone else having this problem?

I'm not sure if I ever had it in this particular computer, but I did have it in my previous computer which ran XP Home. I am currently running a dual boot with Vista Ultimate and XP Pro, both x86. Other people who used this computer apparently messed around and copied MY DOCUMENTS folders. I tried to remedy the mess, but did so when I was tired, and seem to have made matters worse. Now, when I go to the Start Menu> Documents the documents are not there. I am at a loss as to how to fix this.

That's probably the very last thing I'd ever want to do, but usually when I go there I want to "Restart". I use a desktop shortcut for a complete system shut down. How can I change that default, from "Sleep" to "Restart". I know, I know, this is NOT a critical problem, but so far I'm having little or few problems with Vista, that I can't figure out. i just install a modified form of vista call nvidia revolution, after i change the language locate in my regional setting to chinese simplified and restart window, it come out that my window cant start and some file is missing or corrupt, the file is something call nsl file......i cant even start in safe mode and do the repair with vista recovery tool.

I've desided to order the recovery discs for my computer to do a full system recovery, hoping that will fix it. I tried everything I could in vain, and I decided to go ahead and format my hard drive, through another computer using an enclosure kit since I couldn?t even get into safe mode or any other mode without getting the error screen right away. I have Windows Vista 64 bit and have been experiencing problems AGAIN. I have to actually pull the plug on the computer to restart it because a message keeps coming up saying I have another instance of Windows mail running in the back ground. I THOUGHT the problem was solved when we un-installed and re-installed Norton but it worked for about a week and now I have the same problem all over again. I can open the mail ONCE and the when I exit and try to go back in. it says " Another instance of Windows mail is running in the background. I can't even go to Start/ re start. I have to unplig everything. Has anyone else had this happen?

View 4 Replies View RelatedIf I go into start menu-all programs and click on one, nothing. If I click task manager, nothing and I cant reboot using start-shut down or restart. I have to manually close down the computer, i.e. unplug mains power, re-plug and re-start the box. Everything is then fine-for a while, but sure enough, it starts all over again, maybe 24 maybe 48hrs later. It's happened about three/four times in the last week. There's obviously some app either not working or having a fit of some kind.

problem I have is that I do not have vista installation dvd. I am currently studying abroad in Rome and will take more time than I have to receive the dvd in the mail. None of my friends here have one either, but they all have the same make and model computer that I do. Is it possible for one of them create a installation dvd that I could use? Or could they make a recovery disc that could as least get me to the system recovery options screen?
i had a vista home premium, without any problem, for a while. yesterday my anti-virus detected a suspicious file located in c:UsersuserappdataLocalTemp and i allow it to delete mentioned file. after a restart windows start up couldn't be completely done and instead of log in screen, i faced with a black screen just with mouse enabled on it!! however windows boots in safe mode correctly. i have already tried start up repair but it didn't solve the problem!
