View 8 Replies View Relatedi have tried to correct the windows mail challenge I am having on Vista. I found an old post and it suggested going into control panel and looking to see what the MailTo protocol is. It does not exist and that may be the challenge. I have checked for defaults and Windows mail and IE have all defaults set. I then looked for the windows mail protocol. It does not exist. I see windows mail in the far right on a couple of items but no protocol. Could this be because I put Office 07 in along with 03. It didn't work. I had hoped to have both available. 03 for now work and 07 to leisurely learn all the changes. I took 07 out and had to reinstall 03. That all works but email link embedded into a link tells me my mail client is not properly installed. I have a thread further down, but it is not being answered and so I am probably in trouble for starting a new one. How do I get the protocol in there?

View 9 Replies View RelatedRecently i installed Vista x64 Ultimate and as i remember in startall programs there are two icons of internet explorer (32 and 64 bit) and WMP icon. Now that icons are gone. Is that because Opera is my default browser and Gom and winamp are default media players? Of course i think that this is not problem. I remeber that i deleted that icons from quick lunch but deleting them from quick lunch doesn't mean deleting tham from start menu, right? Wmp and IE can be started directly by typing wmplayer and iexplore in search but i want that icons back in startall programs!
View 5 Replies View RelatedI recently had to reinstall Vista Windows and had to copy some of my program files across from the 'Old Windows' program file to the new Windows program file and they are now not all showing in the Start - All Programs menu or in the Programs and Features 'Uninstall or Change a program' list. How can I get all my programs into these two locations?
View 5 Replies View Relatedmy computer its nothing serious its just annoying and i want to fix it. the icons on the right side of the Start menu are now shown as folders and not the fancy one and i miss that, i was wondering if i can change them back? this all started a few days ago i think i caused it by doing something with CMD and some files showed up and i was deleting alot of them cause they looked like they were unnessasary, i think i deleted something that shouldnt of been deleted. now im just trying to figure out how to fix it with using system restore because i dont have the a restore point to fix that problem my restore points are deleted.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI noticed last night that the icon was missing from the start menu for Spywareblaster. I'm not sure if it has been missing since I installed it, but I tried deleting the icon cache and uninstalling/reinstalling Spywareblaster, but the icon remains missing. If I right click on the shortcut within the menu and select properties-change icon, the correct icon is shown there. Not a major problem, just a bit annoying that the usual fixes don't seem to correct it.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI rearranged my Start menu recently. I've just discovered that some items are now missing from the "Accessories" folder. I currently have:
Ease of Access
System Tools
Command Prompt
Notepad
Run
Windows Explorer So, things such as "Wordpad" are missing.I would be grateful if someone could tell me what menu items are missing, and the links to those items.
my problem is that suddenly some of the entries disappeared from the menu that comes up in the start menu, I have googled to see it there is a solution and it was not, tried system restore, and I even replaced patched uxtheme (and other) file(s) to the originals. Ill attach my CBS.log from the sfc scan. Images of the problem below.
View 6 Replies View RelatedSo basically, a few weeks after i got Vista i tried to install Stellarium (freeware astronomy program), which crashed my computer. I restarted, and after typing in my password I get "My Documents" open on a black screen, nothing else, no taskbar or desktop icons or anything. When i try to open the "taskbar and start menu" icon in Control Panel, nothing happens. Also, when I Ctrl-Alt-Del the usual screen comes up, but the task manager is no longer an option, and i can't think of how to access it or my taskbar. I've installed all the servfice packs and they haven't helped.
View 5 Replies View Relatedmy Recent Items list has disappeared. I've been to the Start Menu properties window, and under Privacy, I only have a single entry, "Store and display a list of recently opened programs". The corresponding entry for documents is missing. Furthermore, although I can check the one-and-only tick-box, the setting doesn't hold, and it's unchecked again next time I open Properties. I have a Recent Items folder (with the correct icon), deep in my User folder, but it's empty. I tried restoring the desktop.ini file from an early disk image, but although the restore appears to work according to the image program, the folder remains stubbornly empty. It's as though some system setting registry value has been set prohibiting the use or display of this Recent Items folder.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI just installed SP1 and now the "Search" option is missing from my Start Menu. I checked in the Taskbar and Start Menu settings in the control panel and the options are checked. I'm running Vista Home Premium on a Gateway GT5238E with dual processor and 2 gig RAM. Is anyone else having this problem?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI looked but couldn't find this issue elsewhere. I noticed that when I opened my files, there were extra MY DOCUMENTS folders. Other people who used this computer apparently messed around and copied MY DOCUMENTS folders. I tried to remedy the mess, but did so when I was tired, and seem to have made matters worse. Now, when I go to the Start Menu> Documents the documents are not there. I am at a loss as to how to fix this.
View 4 Replies View RelatedJust installed Vista RC1 yesterday on my Packard Bell R0900 Notebook. Everything went well with the install, until it came to the performance test... I let it run for 1,5 hours and nothing seemed to happen (screen went black in the beginning, but that was all). So I decided to not let him do the test (after a hard reboot). And all looked fine, except for:
- Opening windows give a big lag (like control panel). It takes about 5 sec to load one window!
- Same for the start menu...
- On fading when for example vista asks whether you will allow something to run, makes it lag alot too... (Same when shutting down or logging of (the fade takes like 20 secs).
- When typing something, it takes like 3 secs to show the first letters...
i am unable to open links in my emails, the error i get is: this file does not havea program associated with it for performing this action create an association in the set asociations control panel.
I am using Vista ultimate x64bit.
Suddenly I cannot access the control panel or vista update or Backup, also the shortcut to Administrative tools is no longer there.
I have searched in vain with google and have not found a solution to this problem.
I cant open the control panel on my system either fron the desktop shortcut or the start menu. I did think it may be a driver issue after i upgraded my 8800gtxoc2 to the latest nvidia driver. I decided to do a system restore to just before i did the instalation, but after 6 attempts on several restore points they have all failed. I have strated my comp up in safe mode and removed the driver but the problem is still there. i have restarted the software licence but i am stuck now and need some advice before i bite the bullet and reformat. Using the origional vista disk is there a way of doing a re-instal without losing my data.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI did a clean install. (RC1 - Build 5600) At first, everything was working great, then the next day I have nothing in Control Panel. From the Start Menu it says (empty) after attempting to load it for 20-ish seconds. If I click the desktop shortcut, it will load the window frame with no content, then just close after 5 seconds. In Windows Explorer I can expand the Control Panel from the sidebar, and pick from there, but just selecting Control Panel, again doesn't work. I remember this being corrupted .cpl files back in the 3.x days, same thing maybe? I ran System File Checker, didn't fix it (did find corrupted files though, oi vey).

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a question why does my control panel icon move from where I place it when Vista starts up also the Icons inside the control panel a HUGE! they have tiny lettering under them but man Stevie Wonder could see these! I mean I might have six Icons showing. I can move the control panel to the top and go into IE8 and boom bottom left hand corner which is where it always goes to. Any thoughts? I would be happy to leave it there but the icons inside now that's another thing. TIA for considerations.........
View 4 Replies View RelatedI was removing some programs form ym computer earlier and It asked me to reboot my computer once I removed BlueSoleil, So I did, When my computer loaded back up the Login Background was black and all I could see was the name and password field, So I decided to go on and as I'm currently learning BATCH program I decided to go and do some to only find that the Icons were missing, It just shown an "Invalid Icon" icon, I thought that couldn't be right and decided to SR (System Restore) But as I went onto the Control Panel nothing was showing up, No icons. No words. Nothing. I did WindowKey+F and searched for System Restore and found it bt as I tried to open it, It would give me an error due to the "Run As Administrator" compatability isn't working properly.

I think it's Memory/resource BUG, am I right? What's the cause? How do I fix it?
for about 5 months now i have been trying to open control panel. i found a way to get into add or remove programs through computer then click the arrow into other things but we recently got wireless internet and i need to get into network connections or whatever it is which is in control panel. i tried to get it through the long way but it wont open.
This is what the error is:
I go start, control panel. it loads about half of the icons then a dialogue box pops up saying windows explorer has stopped working, looking for a solution etc etc.
Then it restarts windows explorer.
and i still cant access control panel. even though i can access all of the stuff except network connections (which i really need to get wireless) i still want to be able to go into and click control panel and for it to work.
Hey everyone. How ya been.
Basically here's my problem. I'm trying to open the Nvidia Control Panel, and it crashes and gives me the option to check for solutions online.. and Nothing seems to get the Control Panel to open.
Yes, I've done a Re Install of Drivers, I've updated and tried the 180.43, 44, 48 and then just did the 181.20's. Still doesn't work. I was then told that the 185 extreme G drivers helped someone with same problem. So I just barely installed those, with NO luck. It's still crashing. Basically I just got my new GTX 260 today and I now can run SLI, but I can't get the darn control panel open to enable SLI... I'm going crazy here.
I googled the problem, and someone suggested I delete the nvapps.xml folder in the actual driver file location and then reinstall. I tried that as well.
If ANYONE has any idea's on how to fix this I'm very open to suggestions. I've just installed NV system Tools, but if it's anything like nTune I don't want it near my system. lol.
Please help me out. I wanna see these babies in action.
Thanks!
