Recently I've noticed that when I right click on certain files or the desktop, that it would load the context menu after about 1 second. I know this isn't much but it should not take that long for something that small. I went ahead and removed many items from the context menu and the desktop and all other files load the context menu almost instantly. My problem is that .exe files still take 1-2 seconds to load their context menu. I tried removing almost ALL the options in the context menu.
Installed SP1, now when I right click on any folder in windows explorer, the search option is missing from the context menu? Tried all my drives and a bunch of different folders, still no search. I enabled Windows Search service again, had it disabled since it eats to many resources, still no search. Pre-SP1 of course did not do this.
I am running Norton Ghost 14.0 under Windows Vista Home Premium with the lovely SP1. There use to be an option when you right click a v2i file on the windows explorer, this option said Mount and I think there was a Open option too. The one I really need is the Mount one. Anyway, this option is gone, I am not sure if it is the SP1, I have tried context menu editors and viewers and the shell registry entry is there and it is not disable by the "legacy" entry option on the registry, I believe it has the right command too, attached is my registry entry and a screen shot of my context menu:...............
Do you use notepad very frequently to open all types of text files? This quick tweak will add "Open with Notepad" to all of your file context menus. Whenever you right click on a file, you will have the option to open it in Notepad.
Copy and paste the code below into Notepad. Then save it as a .reg file and import it by clicking on it....
With Windows XP the context menu would fly out to the left or the right, depending on how close it was to either the left or right side of the screen. in my VHP 32bit OS, for some reason, the context menus such as Send to, MagicISO, and Open With tend to favor flying out (opening) the left, unless the context menu is envoked on the extreme far left of the screen, then they fly out to the right side of the menu as usual. So for instance, if I right click on something in the exact middle of the screen, and choose Send To, the menu flys out (opens) to the left of Send To instead of following the direction of the Send To -> (arrow) which is on the right. This happens even when right clicking on the desktop itself, it just seems to favor the left. Anyone know the registry key where to adjust the direction sensing of the context menu? Or at least so it would favor the right instead of the left?
Can someone explain to me how to create a new right-click menu option for like windows explorer, or to modify one. I have Open with Notepad++, and i would like to modify it to Open with xxx.
Something I've pondered for a long time, and never actually gotten around to looking into: How the $%#! does Windows Explorer decide what order to put the context menu items in? Does anyone know how to re-order it? As far as I can tell, it's completely willy-nilly. It even seems to change from right-click to right-click. (Right-click on a few different folders. You'll see the same menu items, but sometimes the order will change for no apparent reason.)
Frequently when using the contextual menu, I experiment the following problem : context menu appears correctly but one element of the context menu sticks on the screen. The only solution I found to make it disappear is to reboot! I have attached a file to illustrate the problem.
I apologise if this issue has already been addressed - or if this is the wrong place to post - this is my first time here. I recently needed to make some changes to the ever growing "new items" context menu, but i cannot find the folder where they are stored in Vista Ultimate 64. Does anyone know where to look?
I was testing Vista for one year and at the end I am going back to the XP. I not interested in appearance. The system should work and I do not care if it have transparent windows or not. It have to be fast and have all function I had in former System (Windows XP in my case) What am I lacking in Vista:
1.No search i context menu 2.No drag and drop to command prompt 3.No folder backup (ntbackup) 4 Eating more than 1GB ram 5 More clicking to get to the same properties
Can any of you tell me why should I stay with Vista? It is your last chance to convinced me.
This is the Context Menu that I'm referring to, accessed by Start>Pictures>[Open a Folder to display thumbnails], Right-click on Thumbnail. With my current settings [where?], if I select and click on Edit, MS Windows Paint opens as the Default Editing Program. I don't like Paint at all, and want to change from that current Default Program, to allow my Pictures to be opened and edited by Picasa. Is there a method by which I can change that Context Menu, so that by clicking on Edit, the selected thumbnail automatically opens in Picasa And before anyone leaps in and suggests any other editing program from the plethora of others available [eg. Photoshop etc.], please don't waste your time - I'm not interested in them, as Picasa fulfills all of my basic photo editing requirements. Basically, I'm looking for a shortcut to open Picasa with just one click, as I'm aware that I can also get there through Open with, in the same Context Menu.
Although most of my XP/Vista 32 bit apps work fine in Vista 64, many do not show their right-click context menus even though I have enabled them. There are a few that appear but the majority do not. Is there some way to correct this?
I have just installed Winzip 10 and there is no right click menu in explorer except for the usual Open/Send to etc, there is not "extract to here" Add to archive etc.
These are all selected in options/context menu commands.
Is there something in Vista 64 that is stopping it.
Noticed that when we right click on a folder, we do not see the search option anymore in Vista. Instead, we can see a search bar on the top right hand side in Windows Explorer (After opening the Folder/drive contents) Is there a setting/registry tweak?
I want to delete a few items from my vista new menu right click but have no idea how to do this tru the registry or if there is a utility program that will make this easier.. i want to remove adobe life cycle, windows call, adobe 3d reviewer, contact..
I did it a while ago, but I have completely forgotten how to do it? Perhaps somebody could enlighten me?
To be more precise, I recently installed the K-Lite codec pack, and it has added an option on my right click menu, which is displayed when right clicking on any file, called "Media Info". This is quite annoying because I don't use the program often enough for it to be on my right click menu. So I would like that to be deleted.
I would also like to add an option to my right click menu that is displayed with any file called, "Scan with Spybot - Search & Destroy". And this should obviously scan with spybot. The directory for Spybot is the default:
It's time to take care of another issue. How are items removed from the right-click menu? There's a "Scan with Spybot" on the menu and it's been uninstalled months ago. Also, how are things added to the right-click menu? The PC = HP Pavilion/VistaHomePremium SP/2 w/all updates. 500G HD, 3G Ram, AMD dual-processor.
In the folder "indexed file locations" there are a lot of old emails I thought were deleted from my system. When I try to delete one or more of them, there is no option for delete in the right click menu. How can I get rid of the old emails as none of them have any importance to me?
Most of the items on the right of the Start Menu have special attributes, in that they show an info tooltip on mouseover and have specially tailored right-click menus. My Recent Files item seems to have lost its special attributes and the right-click menu is now just a standard one, with no option to clear the list (if I want to do this, I now have to go to my roaming profile and delete the shortcuts manually). What caused this, and how do I fix it? (I searched for a sample of tooltip text like 'See the disk drives' in the registry, but nothing came up)
I recently switched from IE7 to FireFox 3(Should have done it A LOT sooner!!!). I love the program except for one thing. In the Vista Start Menu when I click on my email button it still opens with IE7. Is there a way to fix this so that it uses FireFox instead?
