Sep 30, 2008Can someone explain to me how to create a new right-click menu option for like windows explorer, or to modify one. I have Open with Notepad++, and i would like to modify it to Open with xxx.

The fact is that I cannot have alternate choices of opening media files or any files, cause the command is not there!
So please, if anyone knows, tell me the default command line to edit on my registry...or otherwise please provide me the appropriate solution.
My OS is Vista Home Premium 32 bit.
Customizing Start Menu Doesn't Show Up Folders
Feb 23, 2009I've recently helped a friend set up his laptop with 64-bit Vista Home Premium. Since the Programs menu (classic start menu setup) looks like an overflowing junk room after everything gets installed, I made it tidier by getting rid of some shortcuts that weren't needed and organizing others in easy to manage category folders. I was able to create all the folders I needed in ...All Users...Start MenuPrograms, but a folder named "Programs" doesn't show up among the other folders when I go to Start > Programs. Since I've never had any problems before with a sub folder by the same name as the folder above it in hierarchy, I'm thinking this might be a bug. When I check with Windows Explorer, the ...All Users...Start MenuProgramsPrograms folder is there along with all the shortcuts that have been put in it, but it's just not showing up on the Start menu. All the other folders I created such as Utilities, Graphics, Multimedia and Internet do show in Start > Programs along with all the shortcuts I put in them.

Jan 18, 2009With Windows XP the context menu would fly out to the left or the right, depending on how close it was to either the left or right side of the screen. in my VHP 32bit OS, for some reason, the context menus such as Send to, MagicISO, and Open With tend to favor flying out (opening) the left, unless the context menu is envoked on the extreme far left of the screen, then they fly out to the right side of the menu as usual. So for instance, if I right click on something in the exact middle of the screen, and choose Send To, the menu flys out (opens) to the left of Send To instead of following the direction of the Send To -> (arrow) which is on the right. This happens even when right clicking on the desktop itself, it just seems to favor the left. Anyone know the registry key where to adjust the direction sensing of the context menu? Or at least so it would favor the right instead of the left?

Does anyone know how to re-order it? As far as I can tell, it's completely willy-nilly. It even seems to change from right-click to right-click. (Right-click on a few different folders. You'll see the same menu items, but sometimes the order will change for no apparent reason.)

Right-click Certain Files Desktop Context Menu Loads Slow
Oct 8, 2008Recently I've noticed that when I right click on certain files or the desktop, that it would load the context menu after about 1 second. I know this isn't much but it should not take that long for something that small. I went ahead and removed many items from the context menu and the desktop and all other files load the context menu almost instantly. My problem is that .exe files still take 1-2 seconds to load their context menu. I tried removing almost ALL the options in the context menu.

With my current settings [where?], if I select and click on Edit, MS Windows Paint opens as the Default Editing Program. I don't like Paint at all, and want to change from that current Default Program, to allow my Pictures to be opened and edited by Picasa. Photoshop etc.], please don't waste your time - I'm not interested in them, as Picasa fulfills all of my basic photo editing requirements. Basically, I'm looking for a shortcut to open Picasa with just one click, as I'm aware that I can also get there through Open with, in the same Context Menu.

I had Vista check the drivers and it said they were good. I'm only good enough on the computer to follow explicit instructions. When I put a CD in the drive the light will come on like it's reading but then goes off and it does nothing.

Dec 22, 2005Windows Vista has a new search bar located on the Start Panel. You can use the new search box to find items in the various folders of your Start Menu as well as run any application from it. Just type in the name of the executable and it will search your hard drive for it and run it. This is a great feature but if you have a lot of files on your computer, then be prepared for a short delay since it may have to search for a while.
If you do not want to wait that long, there is a quick way to get the old Run command back on your Start Panel....
Doesn't Slide Show To Dvd
May 20, 2008Currently I am using Vista Basic. It can make slide shows, but they are visible only on the computer they're created on and with limited control. I need to give a presentation in July. Can the Premium version be used to do a presentation? Or do I need a program like Power Point. My other interest in Premium is the ability to save slide shows to DVD. Basic doesn't have that feature.

Jun 25, 2008Yesterday I removed my ATI Radeon X800Pro card because it caused graphics issues. I rebooted the computer and it automatically switched to the nvidia GeForce 6100 GPU onboard graphics. It had a fairly updated Windows driver installed for it. I went to nvidia to download the newest driver. During the installation of that driver, the screen went blank. I waited 5 minutes and nothing happened. I restarted my pc and now it doesn't show the Vista log-in screen anymore. All I get is that little green bar on the bottom and then the screen turns black. All I can see is a tiny little green strip (of the log-in page) on the top of my screen. How can I fix that? I still got XP, which I am using right now. I tried to boot Vista in Safe mode but it got stuck while it was loading the drivers...

It really helped with a dialup connection - being able to see if the connection was active or not.
