Context Menu Fly Out Direction
			Jan 18, 2009
				With Windows XP the context menu would fly out to the left or the right, depending on how close it was to either the left or right side of the screen. in my VHP 32bit OS, for some reason, the context menus such as Send to, MagicISO, and Open With tend to favor flying out (opening) the left, unless the context menu is envoked on the extreme far left of the screen, then they fly out to the right side of the menu as usual. So for instance, if I right click on something in the exact middle of the screen, and choose Send To, the menu flys out (opens) to the left of Send To instead of following the direction of the Send To -> (arrow) which is on the right. This happens even when right clicking on the desktop itself, it just seems to favor the left. Anyone know the registry key where to adjust the direction sensing of the context menu? Or at least so it would favor the right instead of the left?

        Installed SP1, now when I right click on any folder in windows explorer, the search option is missing from the context menu? Tried all my drives and a bunch of
different folders, still no search. I enabled Windows Search service again, had it disabled since it eats to many resources, still no search. Pre-SP1 of course did not do this.

        Something I've pondered for a long time, and never actually gotten around to looking into: How the $%#! does Windows Explorer decide what order to put the context menu items in? Does anyone know how to re-order it? As far as I can tell, it's completely willy-nilly. It even seems to change from right-click to right-click. (Right-click on a few different folders. You'll see the same menu items, but sometimes the order will change for no apparent reason.)

        Frequently when using the contextual menu, I experiment the following problem : context menu appears correctly but one element of the context menu sticks on the screen. The only solution I found to make it disappear is to reboot! I have attached a file to illustrate the problem.

        I am running Norton Ghost 14.0 under Windows Vista Home Premium with the lovely SP1. There use to be an option when you right click a v2i file on the windows explorer, this option said Mount and I think there was a Open option too. The one I really need is the Mount one. Anyway, this option is gone, I am not sure if it is the SP1, I have tried context menu editors and viewers and the shell registry entry is there and it is not disable by the "legacy" entry option on the registry, I believe it has the right command too, attached is my registry entry and a screen shot of my context menu:...............

        I apologise if this issue has already been addressed - or if this is the wrong place to post - this is my first time here. I recently needed to make some changes to the ever growing "new items" context menu, but i cannot find the folder where they are stored in Vista Ultimate 64. Does anyone know where to look?

        I was testing Vista for one year and at the end I am going back to the XP. I not interested in appearance. The system should work and I do not care if it have transparent windows or not. It have to be fast and have all function I had in former System (Windows XP in my case) What am I lacking in Vista:
1.No search i context menu
2.No drag and drop to command prompt
3.No folder backup (ntbackup)
4 Eating more than 1GB ram
5 More clicking to get to the same properties
Can any of you tell me why should I stay with Vista? It is your last chance to convinced me.

        Recently I've noticed that when I right click on certain files or the desktop, that it would load the context menu after about 1 second. I know this isn't much but it should not take that long for something that small. I went ahead and removed many items from the context menu and the desktop and all other files load the context menu almost instantly. My problem is that .exe files still take 1-2 seconds to load their context menu. I tried removing almost ALL the options in the context menu.

        This is the Context Menu that I'm referring to, accessed by Start>Pictures>[Open a Folder to display thumbnails], Right-click on Thumbnail. With my current settings [where?], if I select and click on Edit, MS Windows Paint opens as the Default Editing Program. I don't like Paint at all, and want to change from that current Default Program, to allow my Pictures to be opened and edited by Picasa. Is there a method by which I can change that Context Menu, so that by clicking on Edit, the selected thumbnail automatically opens in Picasa And before anyone leaps in and suggests any other editing program from the plethora of others available [eg. Photoshop etc.], please don't waste your time - I'm not interested in them, as Picasa fulfills all of my basic photo editing requirements. Basically, I'm looking for a shortcut to open Picasa with just one click, as I'm aware that I can also get there through Open with, in the same Context Menu.

        The "open with" command disappeared completely from my file context menu.

The fact is that I cannot have alternate choices of opening media files or any files, cause the command is not there!

So please, if anyone knows, tell me the default command line to edit on my registry...or otherwise please provide me the appropriate solution.

My OS is Vista Home Premium 32 bit.

        Do you use notepad very frequently to open all types of text files? This quick tweak will add "Open with Notepad" to all of your file context menus. Whenever you right click on a file, you will have the option to open it in Notepad.
Copy and paste the code below into Notepad.  Then save it as a .reg file and import it by clicking on it....

        One annoyance that I've found in Vista is that unlike all previous Windows versions that I've used, when I get a file selection menu, such as for opening a file within an application or 'save as...', if the list is a multicolumn one, as is usually the case, the ordering of the files is NOT vertical as it always had been before, but is horizontal.

Although I can see a logic in this, the fact is that when I'm faced with columns, my eye naturally reads down each column, and therefore I need the vertical sort arrangement as had always previously been the case.
Please, therefore, does anyone know of a fix for this, so that I can restore vertical sort arrangement in those lists?

        Running Vista Home Premium x64 SP1. I have all my Start Menu links under my user account (not all users). I also have "Enable context menus and dragging and dropping" option enabled. I can right-click on items and rename/delete them, but when I try to drag an icon from one folder in the Start Menu to another folder, my cursor turns to a red "no can do" symbol and I can't drop the icon in the new folder.

        Explorer is no longer working properly in a few ways. Programs often take a long time to start and display “(Not responding)” on the their top window frames. Right click menu sometimes takes a long time to appear while explorer freezes. The explorer window itself is sometimes quite long to change the display when I change folder (this is far from often, but happens).

The first window to appear when we click on the Start Menu, the one with the large icons, is usually OK, but sometimes it does the same as the “All Programs” second window;
Here, the folders do not open and on Task Manager I can watch explorer taking up all the CPU available resources immediately after I pass to “All Programs”;
However, if I click “Back” (explorer stops abnormally using all CPU resources);
Then I click “All Programs” again and the previously clicked folder is now already open, but explorer is again up with CPU resources, so if now I click on a subfolder or on another folder, it all repeats again.
At this moment I don’t have backups to install.

        Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this; I didn't know where else to do it.

I've been having a problem with my menu bar in file explorer. I've posted this question elsewhere, but so far, no one has been able to help

I've begun hiding my menu bar recently and I noticed something annoying, and judging by other people's screenshots, it's not supposed to look this way.

If the pic shows up, look above organize and you'll see a fat white bar where the menu is collapsed. It's as if it isn't collapsed completely, or maybe it has something to do with padding(?)..I don't know. I just cannot get rid of this, and it's really distracting on dark themes like this one, though it shows up on all themes, even regular windows aero.

Any ideas? It's drving me nuts!

        I have noticed that in certain programs (windows mail, dreamweaver, to name but two), the menus in the menu-bar are offset to the right when I open them. They appear not directly below the menu, but below-to-the right of them. Look at the screenshot for details. What can be causing this (it doesn't happen in every program, that is the weird thing about it)
