Experience With CCleaner: Set Up A New Machine With The Utilities I Need Before Loading Any Software?
May 18, 2008
Has anyone used CCleaner with 64 bit Vista? What has your experience been? The reveiws seem to be mixed. Vista is new to me and I'm trying to set up a new machine with the utilities I need before loading any software.
I have installed Virtual Windows XP mode on Windows 7 RC. When trying to load XP programs on the virtual machine, I often get the warning "The Windows Installer does not permit installation from a Remote Desktop Connection"
New computer. Vista Home Premium. FSX continually stops loading and have to restart the loading process. Six times to get it loaded, but all sytems not functioning. Loaded Accelerator crashed whole system had to do repair of FSX and start over again with continual stoppage. Don't know where to go from here. It worked fine with XP
First after doing an ordinary restart, my vista (ultimate) gets stuck for a LONG time at the loading screen and does not move, with the green loading bars. this happens every time i try to restart. i pop in my original vista disk and start the repair process...it says it found something wrong with my startup and it found what was wrong and that it was repaired. after this i get the message NTLDR, which is a whole nother problem. i ran the below to fix the NTLDR...
1. Put the Windows Vista installation disc in the disc drive, and then start the computer. 2. Press a key when you are prompted. 3. Select a language, a time, a currency, a keyboard or an input method, and then click Next. 4. Click Repair your computer............
I downloaded Ccleaner, I was going to run it, but I hesitated... same for the registry cleaner.. it seems to have found quite a bit of things in both, but I'm really nervous about it wiping something and messing this things up.
have been using this programme for a while no problems. if any of you are familiar i would definately recommend it.
recently however i have just built my first pc and obvioulsy dont want to do anything that may cause issues with my system, what im wondering is what exactly am i getting rid of when i delete the registery. will it get rid of game patches that i want to keep etc. or can i clear it all with no problems.
I was installing a 3rd party software called "ccleaner" and the install went good. Then it asked if I want to reboot now or do it later..I chose to reboot now. The computer started to reboot! When it came up the screen to press f2 for setup, esc for boot menu, etc. it hung! I waited about 5 minutes and still no go!
I decided to power it down and have it restarted..that is when the problem started!
It got hung on the same black screen as I mentioned above. I press the esc key and it took about 5 minutes before any action. Did the same with the f2 key..again about 5 minutes before any action. Both the boot and setup looks ok and I tried to reboot again..nothing! Went in to change boot sequence to the CD. The boot took to the CD, but it not do nothing after it mentioned that do I want to reinstall windows, etc.
Closed that out and went to the C prompt..NO C drive!! Powered it down and when it tried to reboot it came up something like..cable is not connected or there is no fixed drives! I can not get either fdisk or format to work!
This computer is my wife's laptop and she has some important files on there and she does not have a backup!!
I can't uninstall ulead video studio 10 from my computer " windows vista home premium 32 " a message appear from programs and features that :i have a xp sp2 program's and must close any opened programs . i did but nothing happen .other message when vista startup vista go to color basic ....? help ccleaner not wok in my system
I have a lenova Y530 system with 4GB RAM and 2.2 GHZ of core 2 duo processor. Every application works fine for me expect the CCleaner.
I have the latest version of CCleaner Version v2.19.900. When ever i do clean the registry with the application its hang after 21 % . But when I clean the cookies its cleaning with no issue. i never had this issue in the office system which Windows XP.
When I browse for a printer on the network I can see the workgroup, I can see the PC with the printer, but I don't see the printer show up under the PC in the Add Printer Wizard dialog. This was easy for me back when there were two machines running XP.
I have installed the x86 printer driver on the Vista machine. Would this be easier if I upgraded the Vista machine to Windows 7?
Computer 1 is my home desktop running Vista Premium SP1. It is on the 'workgroup' workgroup. Computer 2 is my work laptop (on docking station) running XP Pro SP2. It is on a domain called 'amer'. There is an HP LaserJet 2100 connected to the Vista machine. It is shared. This is a wired network with D-Link router. At first I thought it was a sharing issue when I could not print from the XP machine to the printer on the Vista machine. But then I realized it is a network issue because if I try to browse the Vista machine from the XP machine I get the 'no access, you may not have permission', etc. message. To make it work, I :
1. start the XP machine (assuming the Vista machine is already running) 2. wait about 15 minutes for the Vista machine to see that the XP machine is there. 3. Browse to and open the XP machine from the Vista machine 4. Go to the XP machine, open its workgroup (amer) and then open the XP machine 5. Wait a minute or so, then while still on the XP machine, navigate to Vista machine's workgroup ('workgroup') and open the workgroup. If the Vista machine appears I am good to go. I don't need to browse it, it just needs to appear.........................
i have installed tuneup utilities 2009 and i've noticed that some programs arent working and media center, dvd maker are gone. also most of my start menu folders are gone or empty also i DO NOT wont to reinstall windows , its such a hassle
if there are any good hard disk utilities available that perform more comprehensive testing/correction than those performed by Windows own check disk utility?
I keep getting an error messege every startup. Heres a picture. I use vista. I was installing Tune up. My whole computer froze and I had to shut it down. Next thing when I started my system no restore points a security program that I unstalled a long time ago was on my pc and now I can't unstall any and i keep getting the messege. I use vista.
I could use security scanners and tools for keeping my system in good condition and for general troubleshooting. Converting files, burning CD's and DVD's and things like font management, etc. I use my computer for general use (documents, school papers, resumes, etc.) and for graphics for my web page profiles and creating web pages; and home management (budgets, etc.) Any trusted freeware libraries you're aware of?
Its been about three months since I've given up trying to network my Vista machine with my XP machine, but I thought I would try it again. here are my symptoms again:
*Vista (Ultimate) machine cannot see XP (Home SP2) machine. *XP machine can see and access the Vista machine. *Xp machine shows up in the Vista Network Map, but not the Network Folder. *Both machines can ping each other. *I can access the XP machine via IP address, I can access the shared folder but not a shared printer. *IPConfig for Vista shows that NetBIOS over TCP/IP is disabled even though it is enabled in the Network Adaptor Properties dialog. (NetBIOS over TCP/IP always enabled, the middle radio button)
Other information: *Everything worked as it should once apon a time, then it all went to Hell. It could have been an update, tweaking software, or antivirus setting, but I notcie too late to do anything about it. *I know it can't be that I don't have the same User/Password on both machines (I tried it anyway but it still didn't work), because it worked awhile back without having the same accounts on both machines. *I had Bitdefender 2008 on the Vista machine, the Firewall log had entries that the ports 138 and 139 were being refused, despite having the XP machine being on the trusted list (by its IP address). So I uninstalled the Antivirus, but the problem persists. *The XP machine has Zone Alarm Internet Security.................
Im using a HP Pavilion dv9700 notebook with vista 32bit OS installed. Note that when i did the following i was not connected to the internet: The problem only recently occured after i attempted ot remove Norton security centre from my computer. That uninstalled fine. I also installed tunup utilities 2009 and did a reboot. On reboot the Windows loading bar froze. This kept happening every time a did a restart. So i decided to do a system restore to resolve that problem. That resolved the freezing issue and i figured that i would have to remove internet security again and so tried to unistall it again only for it to say "The system cannot find the path specified." So Norton is now corrupt and i cant run it or uninstall it. But i decided to run registry scans and cleaned up the computer with Tuneup.
After i took the laptop back to where i can use the internet. I plugged in the Lan cable and tried to run firefox but it didnt connect. The only connection i can get is local only access. I live in University halls and i should be on the internet when i plug in the LAN cable. I have since tried a system restore to restore back to a couple of days ago but its no use. I still have the same problem. No internet and no chance of uninstalling Internet security for good. As my LAN network driver is Nvidia netwroking controller I can only assume that its the nvidia controller that is the problem. Even though windows claims there is nothing wrong with it. I have tried uninstalling the driver, but when i confirm it just closes the dialoge box and doesnt uninstall it at all. I cant rollback the driver as its not an option and although i downloaded an older version of the driver and installed it (it said that it installed?), it has no overrun the more up to date driver. I have been trying to fix this for around 6 hours now & its vital that i get back online with the computer as i have assignments due in for tuesday. (im using some one elses computer at the moment)
The Microsoft acquisition Sysinternals that is famous for their useful Windows utilities has a new site up that allows you to easily access any of their utilities for free over the internet in your command prompt. This allows you to run any of their utilities without first downloading it to your computer. Just open an administrative level command prompt and type in: ...
My "ulstata.sys" driver got corrupted and had to completely rebuild the boot options. On doing that I am now back to the original SP2 Boot Screen and am not able to change it back to my custom image via TuneUp Utilities. I'm kind of guessing one of the "winload.exe.mui" file isn't allowing the change.
"C:WindowsSystem32Booten-US" has only "winresume.exe.mui" `whereas "C:WindowsSystem32en-US" has both?
I've tried copying the loadfile in System32/en-US but it's not letting me paste in the System32/Boot/en-US due to some folder protectioin. although i've taken full control. Tuneup Utilities is ssaying it's applied the boot screen but vista is still loading the SP2 boot screen.
So far I tried 5 different delete utilities and nothing worked without a reboot! This Vista64 is a PITA when it comes to locked files. Anyone having any luck with an Unlocker clone that works in 64 bit?
after searching for hours on google on this website i did find some threads about the whole 32bit vs ultimate 64bit and one thread will say you should update the other says no stay away from it..I cant make my mind up:/ so i thoguht maybe with my lap top specs it might help give a bettr idea of if i should? so i bought ultimate vista with both 32 and 64 bit i did install 32bit because i was stupid and did not look at both cds just wonderd why it had 2 cds, so after i realised by then i have installed everything with 32bit and have the lap top the way i like it... so is it really worth formatting re installing everything i backed up 64bit versions of drivers and nod32..etc not sure if diskeeper works with 64bit or tune up utilities those where two programs i payed for.. but also my lap top i am not sure if its good enough to have a good experience on the 64bit, i know it can install it but not sure if it will make a difference? i have HP Pavilion dv5-1111ea Entertainment Notebook ......
I seem to suddenly have lost capability to do various things with my PC (I am admin, Vista still correctly displays that I am admin). For instance I can no longer send/receive emails from my Outlook 2003. It says "you don't have appropriate ermissions to perform this operation".
From time to time it complains that extend.dat has disappeared whereas this is not true, it is still to be found under "C:Users<username>AppDataLocalMicrosoftOutlook".
I have ensured ownership and full control under my username of C:Users<username>AppDataLocalMicrosoftOutlook as well as C:UsersGregoireApplication DataMicrosoftOutlook.
I have also copied my Outlook.pst file to OutlookWhiteKnight.pst and redirected my inbox and mail delivery to this but TO NO AVAIL.
Of course if I turn User Access Control off it works fine again but that's a bit overstretched and surely there is a way to go back to the previous state without killing UAC.
Other things that have happened is I lost my ability to scan, ability to copy certain files from my wife's account to our archive and other sweets like this.
Ah and one last element of detail is that my wife does not have the problem and she is a standard user.
What I *suspect* the initial cause might be is that I have installed a security sweeper from my remote-access website from my employer and it probably messed up with the dtcom config but that's where my knowledge stops. I checked the config the INTERACTIVE user was there (don't ask me what that is, I found that following some threads on google and various websites). I have of course a proper helpdesk from work but they claim it's not their fault and that it can't possibly be because I am the first to report such a problem amongst many users and that as per policy they won't help me with my personal laptop etc etc. Anyway that suspicion itself as to the cause won't help me much.
This morning my computer started issuing security alerts notifying me that the firewall was off as was the malware. I turn the firewall on but under the malware section it indicates that it is reporting to the security centre in a format that is no longer supported. It also has a little Not Compatible icon to the right of the malware icon on the left. Once the firewall is turned on and the malware turns from red to yellow when we turn it on the shield in the bottom right of the screen goes yellow for a while but eventually it goes red again and I am again notified that the firewall is off and the malware is off as well.
I know my subscription is still in effect and according to the system it expires 10/03/2010.
I've installed Vista recently on my old hdd and after few days I started to notice strange things, during some time whille vista is running (like 20 hours), when I download anything (even at 200 KBs), music starts to stuck every 20 secs or so, when loading video and playing at same time, this happens even more often.
I thought it's my HDD so bought Caviar Black and after installing Vista, few days it was running fine, then again, today I start to experience the same thing.
I just built a new machine:I ran the experience index test, and I got 1.9 on the Aero performance index and 1.0 on the 3D Graphics Performance index. This is the report that I got from Vista:
Display adapter type NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260 Total available graphics memory Not detected Dedicated graphics memory 0 MB Dedicated system memory 0 MB Shared system memory 0 MB Display adapter driver version 6.14.11.8122 Primary monitor resolution 1920x1080 Secondary monitor resolution 1680x1050 DirectX version DirectX 9.0 or better
This graphics card should be more than fine to run pretty much anything, especially Aero, but with this rating I don't seem to be able to enable it.
I have windows Vista which had 2Gb of memory. The index was 5.2, that was the memory score. I have added another 2Gb. As its a 32bit OS only 3.5 GB is detected, but when I updated my windows experience the score went down for 5.2 to 5.
Is there a way to increase the max WEI score to something higher than 5.9 in Vista? I don't mean the xml file hack where you can change the number for each category to anything you want, but rather an increase on the maximum limit (currently 5.9) that the WEI can display. Maybe change it to something around Win7's level? Is this possible?
