Dec 1, 2008My desktop has vista home premium and my laptop has win xp home. I have a music making hobby using Pro Tools 7.4 Im ready for another laptop and my alienware area 51 is too heavy for traveling. Im told that I can run vista on a mac book pro, they are regarded as being pretty stable and compatible with Pro Tools. But I need to find out if I will be able to run my other PC programs on the mac. Like excel, MS money, Second Copy, True Image, my kodak all in one printer, etc. Also: Pro Tools cannot run on a 64 bit system. Can someone answer this question?

Dec 27, 2008Bought new pc for xmas but my son is having an error come up when trying to run games. Seems to be quite a common one. d3dx9_34.dll missing, try reinstalling application. The tricky bit is that I am out of the country until the 15th Jan and therefore trying to help via phone and msgr. After research it has led me to Directx 9.c needing to be installed. My son did this but then got a conflict error with the the DirectX 10 that comes with Vista. After more searching I believe it is a case of installing the single d3dx9_34.dll file.
My question is where do I extract and install it to. Have read it needs to go into Sys32 folder whilst others have said Syswow64. Can someone please advice and please try to keep it simple as I need to explain i to my 12yr old. Running Vista Home premium 64 bit

Nov 20, 2009Is there any utility or program that can tell whether your system is = using 64bit programs? I ask because I just installed Nitro PDR Pro 6 x64 and it installed it = in the x85 Programs Directory. There's no way I can even tell if a true = 64 bit program is actually being utilized in my 64 bit OS. I know I'm = being anal but with all the talk of 64 bit vs 32 bit, I started getting = curious. Seems that all the big box stores sell computers mostly with = 64 bit Windows installed but a great majority of the programs are 32 bit = (I know they don't make many).......

recently however i have just built my first pc and obvioulsy dont want to do anything that may cause issues with my system, what im wondering is what exactly am i getting rid of when i delete the registery. will it get rid of game patches that i want to keep etc. or can i clear it all with no problems.
Hard Drive Gone After Ccleaner
Dec 12, 2009I was installing a 3rd party software called "ccleaner" and the install went good. Then it asked if I want to reboot now or do it later..I chose to reboot now. The computer started to reboot! When it came up the screen to press f2 for setup, esc for boot menu, etc. it hung! I waited about 5 minutes and still no go!
I decided to power it down and have it restarted..that is when the problem started!
It got hung on the same black screen as I mentioned above. I press the esc key and it took about 5 minutes before any action. Did the same with the f2 key..again about 5 minutes before any action. Both the boot and setup looks ok and I tried to reboot again..nothing! Went in to change boot sequence to the CD. The boot took to the CD, but it not do nothing after it mentioned that do I want to reinstall windows, etc.
Closed that out and went to the C prompt..NO C drive!! Powered it down and when it tried to reboot it came up something like..cable is not connected or there is no fixed drives! I can not get either fdisk or format to work!
This computer is my wife's laptop and she has some important files on there and she does not have a backup!!

May 6, 2009I have a lenova Y530 system with 4GB RAM and 2.2 GHZ of core 2 duo processor. Every application works fine for me expect the CCleaner.
I have the latest version of CCleaner Version v2.19.900. When ever i do clean the registry with the application its hang after 21 % . But when I clean the cookies its cleaning with no issue. i never had this issue in the office system which Windows XP.

I first used the digital locker a few times and it would stop at 99 percent and give a validation error. I figured it the locker was having a problem so i manual downloaded the three files through my internet browser. They downloaded fine without problems, but when I tried to run the Vista setup I ran into another error: 0x8007000D Windows was unable to create a required installation folder.

Nov 24, 2009I'm struggling to find a clear answer on this. Within our environment, we've been ordering Dell PCs for quite some time. I've been told that about midway through the ordering of Dell GX620 Optiplexes that the cores went from single to dual. In effect, I've been advised that these machines and, subsequently everything we've ordered since, are considered 64bit compatible because they have two 32bit cores. Does that sound accurate? What I truly need to know is whether or not any of our PCs (Dell 745, 755 and 760 E8400 Core 2 Duo for desktop; P8400 for laptop) have 64bit hardware. If two 32bit cores mean that they're 64bit compatible, is that the same as being true 64bit? And, last but not least, will 64bit compatible hardware (assuming it's different than 64bit hardware) run a 64bit OS like Windows 7?

Dec 18, 2008i have been running xp pro and decided to try vista ultimate 64bit. the installation went very smoothly. i immediately loaded super pi and 3dmark06 to compare benchmark scores with xp pro. i was surprised to see that the vista scores were 10 to 15% slower. i loaded the latest gpu drivers and loaded the motherboard drivers from the installation disk.
should vista score less than xp pro or is there something i can do to correct this.

Feb 16, 2010I have setup a home networking with 2 vista machines. One is 32bit OS and the other one is 64bit OS. I set up the workgroup, turned on File & Print Sharing, created shares on both PC's and gave permissions. From the 64bit Vista PC, it's working perfectly fine. I can see, connect and use the files. But from the 32bit os pc, I can see the 64bit pc and the "Network". But I cannot explore nor Map a Drive to 64bit PC.

Jul 3, 2008I just did a clean install of Vista 64 Home Premium and have run into a strange problem. I cannot log in to the XFX Support website using either 32 or 64 bit IE7 on the Vista machine. I can log in fine using an XP machine. Further when I tried to fill in the form to d/l the office 2007 trial version so I could import my mail folder from my backup disk into Vista Mail the form would reset everytime I selected the US as my country (was my only option, I assume since I had already input my state). In Firefox the form would appear to reload when I chose US but would keep everything I'd typed in as well as saving that I chose US. IE7 just wiped out all the text boxes and reset the country to choose country.
Needless to say since it blanked the form every time I couldn't get the trial initially. I've somewhat bypassed the problem by installing and using Firefox 3 which is not having either of these problems. The install was a clean install with nothing more than Vista, drivers and updates installed. P.S. I tried the IE7 group but they seemed to think I should post in the Vista groups
HP 64bit Freezing
Jan 19, 2009I just recently upgraded from Windows Home Premium 32bit to the 64bit version and I am having problems with it randomly freezing. The freeze up usually occurs when I am installing a program, just starting to download a file, and even sometimes when I am surfing the web. When my system freezes it like everything locks up...mouse, keyboard, HDD, monitor...everything. The only way to restore my system is a hard boot. I had no problems with Vista 32 bit and it ran well for almost a year so I have a feeling it is a software problem.....Not sure what is causing the freeze ups…sometimes it will run for hours and then freeze sometimes it will freeze 5min after I boot it up…seems to always happen when I’m doing something in windows…

Jan 22, 2009recently bought solidwork student edition which, as i now know, doesnt run on vista 64bit. It would be too expensive to buy the premium version of solidworks as im a student! The only option i can think of to get solidworks to run is to downgrade to 32bit OS, maybe business or ultimate. My CPU is running at 64bit. Will this still all work? Or any better ideas?
