View 6 RepliesThere's a file on my D drive called ntldr. I understand that this is a vital part of windows, however this file is on a hard drive which windows ISN'T installed on now. Windows XP used to be on this drive about 2 years ago but when i got a new hard drive back then, i installed windows on that (C) new hard drive (and have since installed Vista on) and removed it from the one which is now D drive. Since this is not the HD which houses my OS, can i delete ntldr? UPDATE: and ntdetect.com as well.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI bought a used Compaq Presario SR5027CL Desktop. When I turned it on and logged onto the administrator account the screen was black and there were no icons. When I went to the task manager it showed no processes running. My buddy who is way more Tech than I am, told me I need to do a system recovery and ordered the cds for me. After going through the basics of insert this cd then that one the computer restarted itself (normal as far as i know) to a black screen that says NTLDR missing Press Atl+ Ctrl+ Del to restart(not so normal?). What Do I Do Now? Google search took me to several different tech sites which talk about all other OS except Vista.
View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen I start up my computer I get a black screen saying NTLDR is missing. Pres CTRL ALT DLT to restart. The only way I can get my computer to start it pressing that command and then pressing F12 at the Acer menu. It goes into the boot menu and I select my hard drive to and then it starts up. I've searched the internet and all the solutions I've found are for if you've upgraded to XP. I haven't ever upgraded this computer to another OS.
View 5 Replies View RelatedMy problem is when I boot up my computer all I get is this "NTLDR is missing Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart". I can still get into bios, but that's it. I've desided to order the recovery discs for my computer to do a full system recovery, hoping that will fix it. My question is though, will the discs fix this "NTLDR is missing" thing, or will I have to fix it some other way?
View 9 Replies View RelatedAbout a month ago, my laptop (with vista as OS) started acting up, giving me error messages such as ?windowssystem32ootwinload.exe missing or corrupt? as well as ?windowssystem32stsem missing?. I tried everything I could in vain, and I decided to go ahead and format my hard drive, through another computer using an enclosure kit since I couldn?t even get into safe mode or any other mode without getting the error screen right away. I seemed that the problem was getting worst as I restarted my computer.
As I mentioned above, I formatted my disc, thus lost all data, hoping to be able to install a clean version of VISTA. I reinstall my hard drive in the laptop, and just to make a quick test, I started the computer without the VISTA DVD in and I got the error ?NTLDR is missing Press CTRL+Alt+Del to restart?, and wondering what that was about, I looked it up on the internet, and most people seemed to say that error message was a typical windows XP type of error. But I never had XP on.......
installed Windows 7 Build 7100. eh... works great and looks wonderful but i have a few issues here. i can't seem to boot into Windows 7 without setting my Windows 7 Install Files Partition to Active in the Disk Management within Vista. when i restart the Boot Manager comes up and i am able to boot into Windows 7. now if i wanted to boot back into Vista i would have to active the Partition within Windows 7 and restart. all i'm wanting is to be able to boot from Vista and Windows 7 from the Boot Manager without having any errors with Windows 7 while accepting to Boot. i get a missing /ntldr File...
i have downloaded easyBCD and VistaBootPRO. i find both programs are way similar and do the same jobs. with vistaBootPRO it show Windows 7 and the Windows 7 Install Files Partitions have no direct path to any boot file thus here's the problem/issue of not it letting me boot. what do i have config'ed wrong? Image of the entry for Windows 7 and Windows 7 Install Partition under VistaBootPRO i have added both the Windows 7 and Windows 7 Install Files Entries. Here's the Disk Management screen shot in Vista
I had to replace my motherboard and when I did I was able to start up on Vista with a SATA hard drive but when I tried to start up WinXP on an IDE hard drive I get the message "NTLDR is missing".
View 4 Replies View RelatedBecause of a mistake I made while installing Vista, I wound up with the system files (about 1.6 Gig) on one small D: drive while all of the remaining Windows files (over 50 Gig) on the large C: drive. I now want to remove the D: drive and replace it with a large one. How do I move the system files to the C: drive?
View 4 Replies View RelatedThe problem I now have is that they have asked me to rename twain_32 to twain1_32. Not a problem I thought until I tried it. No matter how I go about it i.e. simply clicking on rename, using safe mode or opening Windows Explorer as Administrator I cannot change the name or even delete it for that matter. I'm using Vista Ultimate.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI upgraded my granddaughter's computer from Win.2000 to Vista Home. It had to do a clean install since it was upgrading from Win. 2000 and it stored the previous installation in a folder called Windows.old. This folder takes up 6GB of space and she only has 3GB left on the drive. After all this work I don't want to install a new hard drive if I can avoid it. She can live with only 3GB of drive left but it would help if I could move the Windows.old to an external USB drive.
Can I move Windows.old to an external USB drive and just plug it in if I ever have to reinstall Vista? Since I bought the upgrade DVD I need the previous installation if I ever need to reinstall but I would prefer it to be on a different but accessible drive if possible. I found the Windows Transfer program but it just copies files. I didn't see an option to completely move a folder.
Whenever I try to delete a file in the Windows GUI (either from the desktop or from an open window), the file is deleted (usually) but a window saying "Recycling 1 item" or "Deleting 1 item" stays on the screen forever, until I use Task Manager to kill Explorer.
View 9 Replies View RelatedWindows Explorer had been working fine but now it won't (1) resize to full screen, (2) paste any file anywhere or allow me to drag and drop files. This latter one also won't work on my desktop. What gives? Can I uninstall Windows Explorer and reinstall? Will the 'recovery disks' that came with the computer allow this to happen?
Also, I have a file I want to inspect, a CBS.log file, and it says I need the administrator permission to do this. How do I obtain this. I'm no dummy when it comes to computers but I cannot figure this one out on Vista.
Can??t open files (xls, doc, etc etc) in windows mail. I??m windows Vista Home Premium.

We recently had a need to replace a hard disk. Our original files were all backed up with Windows Vista Backup. The backup process produced no errors and appeared to complete successfully. However, when we restored the backup to the new hard drive, we found that there were many missing files. To this point, it appears that the missing files are all .EXE files. In many cases, all the files were restored to a folder, except for the executable (.exe). We know that these files existed when the Windows Vista Backup was performed on the original hard disk. Moreover, we backuped the same files later using a different program and have confirmed the files were there.
Is anyone aware of a problem where Windows Vista Backup is either NOT backing up all the files or is NOT restoring all the files? Furthermore, it is odd that this seems to have affected only certain files which brings us to wonder if our security software could have blocked files somehow without our knowledge
Windows mail keeps trying to compact the the files when I close the program. It keeps trying and I get errors. How is this fixed? It's the most annoying thing as it doesn't quit, if I click OK - I get another error. How do I get it to compact the news/mail files? Never had this problem with OE I used this to compact and repair the database - it said it compressed it, but did not. WMail is still trying to compess the data base every time I close the program. How is this fixed once and for all? I'm also getting a little window pop up from the bottom bar saying "Data Execution Prevention closed Windows?" What the hell is "Data Execution Prevention?"

View 6 Replies View RelatedI want it to run Windows Vista 32-Bit Edition. I had Linux Ubuntu 6.06 LTS, now I erased the linux partition and format the disk with a utility called Dban. I had to make a bootable CD in order to format it. When the disk was in blank I inserted the Windows Vista DVD and the screen said "Windows is loading files" then the progress bar of Windows Vista appears however it stops. I waited there 1 hour, but nothing happened so i thought it was because I didn't format it to NTFS. Then I used GParted to format it to NTFS. I tried again, however it gave me the same results.

I have sorted out most issues, but run into problems when I try to send an email with an attachment. I find the Word-doc on my disk and attach it correctly, but when I press send, Mail complains that it can't find the document. This is a stand-alone PC with my user as the only user, and with all admin privs. I have turned off the annoying feature of UAC. I have also installed MS Office 2007 Home, and from a word-doc, I can't send the doc to Mail (this option is greyed out).
