I have Windows VISTA Ultimate. I have a recognised fax modem installed. I have verified VISTA can test and validate it is working. When I try to set up a Fax Account - Fax and Scan / Tools / Fax Accounts / Add / Connect to a fax modem / Chose a Modem Name - no matter what I enter in this field, I get an error message "The mentioned fax server is not available. Please correct the server name and try again"

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to set up a new email account on a new laptop. I've got my own email account on my own PC but want to set up a separate account for my wife on the laptop. So far as I am aware I've followed all the printed instructions but still can't get the account to work. Step by step this is what I've done:
1 clicked Tools>Accounts>Add
2 (a) on the Properties>General Page I've typed my wife's name in Mail Account
(b) in User Information I've put her name
(c) in Email Adress I've put her name xxxxxxxxxx@btinternet.com
(d) ticked 'Include this account when receiving mail or synchronising'3 on the Servers Page:
(a) Incoming Mail POP3 I've entered mail.btinternet.com
(b) Outgoing Mail SMTP I've entered mail.btinternet.com
(c) in Email User Name I've entered my wife's name (not the email address)
(d) when I try to enter a password the space is grayed out..............
I can receive mail but cannot send it. The latest error message is: Subject 'trying with new security setting', Account: 'pop.mail.nmu.edu', Server: 'adinet.com.uy', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '250 SIZE 30720000', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): Yes, Server Error: 250, Error Number: 0x800CCC7D.

It's very hard for me to send out attachments or just general mail unless I have it. I'm using Windows Vista and I do have an hotmail email account. When I switch to this account, the desktop comes up with a bunch of misc blanked-out icons which it will not allow me to delete. View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a Windows Live Mail account and a Yahoo account and they both show up on the left hand side of my Window Live Mail account so I can choose which account I want to use or, for example, which inbox to look in. At the bottom, also on the left hand side of my Windows Live Mail account, it shows 'Add e-mail account', which is what I want to do with a new 'AOL' account and I want it to show on the left hand side like the two other accounts.
So I made a new AOL e-mail account, clicked 'Add e-mail account' at the bottom of my 'Windows Live Account', then I put in my new AOL e-mail account and password where it showed me. Then I clicked next.
The next page was all about my email server. When I did this before with a new e-mail account, it was all filled out automatically for me, but this time, all the blanks were left open and I have no idea what to fill in. I believe once I have this information, the AOL e-mail account will automatically then show on the left hand pane of my Windows Live Mail account below the other two accounts.

I filled in POP3 on the first part of the server dialogue box and SM(P?)T on the second box. So that account sits there, unused, and I've decided to remove it. The problem is that I don't know how. When I was using 32 bit Vista I had all my Hotmail folders, newsgroups, calendar, etc. when I selected the Mail icon. Is there a way to migrate Hotmail to Windows Mail, or a way to replace Windows Mail with what I had when I was using 32 bit Vista? I had IE 8 with 32 bit and I have IE 8 with 64 bit.

I have several folders set up on my AOL Windows Mail accont so don't want to have to set up a new windows mail account as I will lose allmy folders. And my account settings are set to "view all mail". even wehn I press "send & receive" none of my old inbox emails are being shown up.
A friend of mine has been locked out of his Dell laptop and cannot find the password for the single account that it has. The laptop has Vista Ultimate installed on it and I am unable to activate the hidden administrator's account to get into Vista. Other investigations using other software shows only 2 accounts, Administrator and Guest but not the actual user single account that shows up onto the login screen. ( I have managed to blank out the Administrator and Guest passwords ) I have a standard Vista Recovery Disk , but I am unable to either repair or re-install Vista from the Dell hidden partition , and the only alternative is to install a unused retail version of Vista Home Premium that my friend has been given awhile ago. I have 2 questions
1) Is the Vista Ultimate user account passwords located in a different place as compared to other versions of Vista?
2) if I install this retail version of Home Premium on the Dell laptop, will I have problems with the propriety hardware that is on the Dell laptop and would I need to find all the Dell drivers for the laptop?
It has happened occasionally, but with no predictability that I can see. I change settings in control pannel / power settings / balanced to 10 min for monitor and never for computer. I check the "advanced settings" to assure that they are the same. I use balanced because that seems to be the default in the registry. I do not see the actual settings in the registry. Every so often Vista resets the settings back to 20 min for the monitor. I have looked at but it speaks of "System Settings page" - I don't know what that is. In any case, my settings have no effect and I can't get the monitor to dependably go to standby after 10 minutes.

I shrinked the OS partition (160 GB), created new partition (40 GB) for 64 bit windows 7 ultimate. After installation of Windows 7, I cannot see the vista ultimate boot option when I boot my PC. When I boot into Windows 7, I still can see the vista partition. But instead of C: it is now displayed as E: I used the HP Recovery Disc to repair windows vista but I can only see a blank blue screen with the mouse pointer. How can I recover the vista?
