Setting Up New Account: How Find Email Server Names?

I'm trying to set up a new email account have followed the instructions all ok until it gets to the email server names for incoming and outgoing mail. how do I find out my email server names?
I have no idea what any of this is about, all very confusing and frustrating. Im trying to send an email to the school from a site i have to send it from. And it says to set it up but i dont know what the incoming e-mail server type is. And dont know what IMAP or POP3 is and what goes in there for the incoming mail server. As well as the outgoing e-mail server name (SMTP) I'm so clueless and usually confused when it comes to technical stuff on cumputers.
I'm having a problem setting up the mail account. I know e Windows goes to Outlook, but when I try to set up windows to use, it always shows up "Dial-up". I have them set"never dial-up", but the box won't change. I have other emails that work fine, but on this I'm baffled...
I have tried to set up an email acount with microsoft windows, but only got as far as receiving an error report. I filled in POP3 on the first part of the server dialogue box and SM(P?)T on the second box. These were complete random guesses as I have no idea what they mean or what the correct ones are, far less how to find them. Why do they have to make these systems so difficult? How do I find out this information?
I am trying to set up my email account for: anyafaires@yahoo.co.uk on my new laptop, on windows mail, I keep getting the error message. What am I doing wrong? I am putting pop.mail.yahoo.com as the incoming server, and smtp.mail.yahoo.com as the outgoing one.
In Control Panel - Mail - Mail Setup - email accounts, I type in the required details to set up an existing mail and it doesn't recognise it when it tries to read the server (red cross instead of tick). I have tried a Yahoo account, Windows Live account and another one, and tried using "unencrypted" and since my knowledge of Vista is fairly basic, I am not sure about doing it manually.
I'm trying to set up a new email account on a new laptop. I've got my own email account on my own PC but want to set up a separate account for my wife on the laptop. So far as I am aware I've followed all the printed instructions but still can't get the account to work. Step by step this is what I've done:

I can not get windows mail to accept my gmail account. I have set it up many times the exact way I am showed how, but I can not get it to take. I keep getting a message the it can not verify my credentials.
I am trying to send emails and for some reason it keeps telling me that the server POP3 cannot find the host. This started about a week ago and i cannot figure out why it all of the sudden started or how to fix it,
I have a question about setting up an account from other than my isp, ex: comcast. I am a volunteer at a christmas website and I need to set up an account. When I set it up the same as I did in outlook express I get the error message that my login has failed. However, I can access the account on webmai.
stuff just hangs in my outbox---still receive mail OK. Here's the error message:

When setting up my e-mail account and I get to incoming and outgoing promps it comes back to me that neither POP3 or IMAP are valid. As of now I hate this system. But I am stuck with it for my business.

I have an Acer laptop running Vista Home Premium SP1 connected via a wireless network to a Desktop PC running Windows XP Professional SP3.
Attached to the Desktop is a Maxtor USB hard disk which is used for backup of the Desktop. I can read/write from the laptop from/to the Maxtor. When I use the Vista Backup and Control Centre on the laptop to establish backup on the Maxtor, I can browse to the folder on the Maxtor, but when I enter a username and password I get the following:
If I use an administrator username on the desktop pc I get:
‘No mapping between account names and security IDs was done (0x80070534). Please ensure that the username is valid’ … (it is!)
If I use a limited username I get :
You need full control permission for the network share. Make the user a co-owner, with Full Control. The network share cannot be on a computer running Windows XP Home. (0x8100002A)’ As I say above, I am using XP Professional SP3 on the Desktop Computer.
I have a Windows Live Mail account and a Yahoo account and they both show up on the left hand side of my Window Live Mail account so I can choose which account I want to use or, for example, which inbox to look in. At the bottom, also on the left hand side of my Windows Live Mail account, it shows 'Add e-mail account', which is what I want to do with a new 'AOL' account and I want it to show on the left hand side like the two other accounts.
So I made a new AOL e-mail account, clicked 'Add e-mail account' at the bottom of my 'Windows Live Account', then I put in my new AOL e-mail account and password where it showed me. Then I clicked next.
The next page was all about my email server. When I did this before with a new e-mail account, it was all filled out automatically for me, but this time, all the blanks were left open and I have no idea what to fill in. I believe once I have this information, the AOL e-mail account will automatically then show on the left hand pane of my Windows Live Mail account below the other two accounts.
Is there a way to omit one or more names from a Group List when sending an email without actualloy removing the name from the list permanently. In Outlook, you were able to right click on the group in the "To" box and open all the actual names and remove what you like. his does not work in Windows Mail.
When I created my windows mail I account I entered SMPT as my outgoing server. THat is not correct. So how do I find out the correct server and then how do I change it?
My email account and online bank account was recently hacked so I'm absolutely freaked out and I'm terrified of using the internet to buy things/book holidays. This computer is new to me and so is vista - I have had no problem with email because I have always gone to my own ISP via explorer. Today, however, I wanted to reply to a craigslist seller and found that my computer was trying to send the email with windows mail (and not sending!)- it was asking me questions like who my outgoing server and incoming server is - can anyone tell me what I need to do? Do I have to use windows mail or can my computer be set to default to yahoo email like my old one was?
Just turned on the Guest Account for the first time. When I switch to this account, the desktop comes up with a bunch of misc blanked-out icons which it will not allow me to delete. And there's a blizzard of "Windows cannot open this file" messages - for shortcut links and for ..exe files including rundll32, issch, eullauncher, sttray, etc. How do I clean this up and start the Guest acct with a blank desktop?
I wanted to either set up my yahoo account or hotmail account to windows mail. I also wanted to know how i can configure it in with my internet explorer so that way when I am trying to email someone it can just automatically pop up!
