Apr 1, 2009i recently purchased a new laptop, which has Windows Live mail installed. I tried to set up an account using hotmail, which i could not do so i set up a live email address. each time i log on to my account i get the following error message
the host SMTP could not be found. please verify that you have entered the server correctly. I get the same message for the POP3 error message. so the questions are as follows:
1. what are the live server addresses?
2. where do i go in and change them?

Sep 4, 2008I have a problem -- just bought a computer at SAM's Club, an HP with Windows Vista Home Premium, fresh out of the box, but when I got it home and set it all up and loaded on data from an old computer I found out it had what I believe is a hidden user account already on it. There was an email account for "Bill" somebody (I deleted that email acct and set up a new one for my wife - it's her computer), and when I try to link to this computer from mine using Windows Explorer, looking at her computer on the Network, instead of seeing the account I set up for "Julie" I still see the files listed under the user "Bill". I'm worried this guy set up some secret way to access the computer. I think probably not, but I don't know. And, even if not, I'd like to delete the "Bill" account. 2 questions ... 1) should I return this computer? Am I in danger of someone having left some kind of "backdoor" to get into the computer? If not, how do I get rid of the hidden "Bill" user account?

Mar 28, 2008I have an Outlook account on my old computer which ran Windows XP and i tried to switch it over to my new computer which runs vista. My first problem is that none of my mail or address book downloaded. i can get over that. But I cant receive any mail. I can send it though. I have added Windows mail as an accepted program in Windows Firewall. I have unistalled Norton Virus. Ive removed the account twice and readded it. I have contacted support for Outlook, They say my anti virus program may need to be set up to accept Windows mail but I think Ive done that now by changing the Firewall. I read on here that maybe I should switch to a Windows live account but email address is a buisness account so can i just switch servers?

Aug 24, 2009I have a Windows Live Mail account and a Yahoo account and they both show up on the left hand side of my Window Live Mail account so I can choose which account I want to use or, for example, which inbox to look in. At the bottom, also on the left hand side of my Windows Live Mail account, it shows 'Add e-mail account', which is what I want to do with a new 'AOL' account and I want it to show on the left hand side like the two other accounts.
So I made a new AOL e-mail account, clicked 'Add e-mail account' at the bottom of my 'Windows Live Account', then I put in my new AOL e-mail account and password where it showed me. Then I clicked next.
The next page was all about my email server. When I did this before with a new e-mail account, it was all filled out automatically for me, but this time, all the blanks were left open and I have no idea what to fill in. I believe once I have this information, the AOL e-mail account will automatically then show on the left hand pane of my Windows Live Mail account below the other two accounts.

May 5, 2009I'm trying to set up an account but when it gets to the POP3 & SMTP I'm not quite sure what to enter there. It's very hard for me to send out attachments or just general mail unless I have it. I'm using Windows Vista and I do have an hotmail email account. You can respond back to that email which is mz_nette2fine4u@hotmail.com I'll check it periodically to see if anyone has responded back to me.

Mar 23, 2008I have 2 computers, one has Outook (xp) and one has Windows mail (vista) both set up for the same email address. When I receive an email on Windows and open it, it doesn't appear on the Outlook computer. Anything received on Outlook always comes through on Windows.
How can I get my email to always appear on both computers?
Also, the Windows Vista computer will only receive email, I get an error message when I try to send:

Jun 7, 2008I want to set up my e-mail account on Windows Vista Home Premium. I use earthlink as my provider. When asked about POP3 and SMTP, I don't know where to access that info. I think POP3 is where it's at, but where can I find the other. This is so frustrating because this info should be close at hand.

Aug 24, 2008We bought a Sony laptop running Vista home for my father and set it up for him. Unfortunately he died before he could use it, so I have inherited it. It was distressing seeing his name all over the thing, so I created a new user account in my name, logged in as that and then deleted the old account in his name. A warning did come up saying that he was still logged in and some data may be lost, but as there wasn't much there I went ahead anyway. All the files under his account had disappeared (including one or two I realised i wanted) as had all his settings and even some software setups. Nothing in the recycle bin; I have run a couple of lost file recovery programs which only find files that have been consciously deleted. Where have his files gone?
