The Authentication Setting Might Not Be Correct For Your Outgoing E-mail [SMTP] Server

I have 2 computers, one has Outook (xp) and one has Windows mail (vista) both set up for the same email address. When I receive an email on Windows and open it, it doesn't appear on the Outlook computer. Anything received on Outlook always comes through on Windows.
How can I get my email to always appear on both computers?
Also, the Windows Vista computer will only receive email, I get an error message when I try to send:

About a week ago, I realized I could no longer send email. Same goes for my laptop on my home wireless network. Everything has been working fine for years and I don't recall making any changes that might affect the email. I have changed to port 587 and checked the authenticity required box but it didn't do any good. I went through Comcasts instructions for setting up email using Windows Vista, but it's still a no go. Another suggestion I read about is email scanning software. I turned of Norton 360 email scanner but it didn't fix the problem.
Here is the error I'm getting on my desktop box when I try to send a test msg to me (or anyone else for that matter). "The message could not be sent. i recently purchased a new laptop, which has Windows Live mail installed. I tried to set up an account using hotmail, which i could not do so i set up a live email address. each time i log on to my account i get the following error message
the host SMTP could not be found. please verify that you have entered the server correctly. I get the same message for the POP3 error message. so the questions are as follows:
1. what are the live server addresses? 2. where do i go in and change them?
message can not be sent. the authentication setting might not be correct for your computer. I can send all my emails except to one person, who also uses comcast as the server. I've called comcast before and they deny they are the problem even though my settings are spot on with what comcast wants.
So i have a Vista and have i've been trying for hours to set up Outlook-Windows Mail and i keep getting this msg. tell me what i'm doing wrong, i'm not very computer smart when it comes to this kind of stuff. I'm trying to set up an account but when it gets to the POP3 & SMTP I'm not quite sure what to enter there. It's very hard for me to send out attachments or just general mail unless I have it. I'm using Windows Vista and I do have an hotmail email account. You can respond back to that email which is mz_nette2fine4u@hotmail.com I'll check it periodically to see if anyone has responded back to me.

I have no idea what any of this is about, all very confusing and frustrating. Im trying to send an email to the school from a site i have to send it from. And it says to set it up but i dont know what the incoming e-mail server type is. And dont know what IMAP or POP3 is and what goes in there for the incoming mail server. As well as the outgoing e-mail server name (SMTP) I'm so clueless and usually confused when it comes to technical stuff on cumputers.

This computer is new to me and so is vista - I have had no problem with email because I have always gone to my own ISP via explorer. Today, however, I wanted to reply to a craigslist seller and found that my computer was trying to send the email with windows mail (and not sending!)- it was asking me questions like who my outgoing server and incoming server is - can anyone tell me what I need to do? Do I have to use windows mail or can my computer be set to default to yahoo email like my old one was?
I have been using a second monitor (Acer AL2216W) with my Vista Home Premium 64bit laptop as an extended desktop and all worked fine until yesterday. Now the 2nd monitor display is offset to the left, and I can't seem to find any setting that will correct it. Basically about 1.5" of blank space on the right side of the 2nd monitor that is unusable it acts as though it has reached the edge of the display.
When I created my windows mail I account I entered SMPT as my outgoing server. THat is not correct. So how do I find out the correct server and then how do I change it?
