May 16, 2008In Control Panel - Mail - Mail Setup - email accounts, I type in the required details to set up an existing mail and it doesn't recognise it when it tries to read the server (red cross instead of tick). I have tried a Yahoo account, Windows Live account and another one, and tried using "unencrypted" and since my knowledge of Vista is fairly basic, I am not sure about doing it manually.

Apr 4, 2008While using XP Outlook Express, I was able to add the account for my online school, Walden University. Everything still worked fine even after I upgraded my computer from XP to Vista. Now the school has changed their email program to be some kind of eCampus. I followed their instructions for adding an account to Outlook Express and was told that they should be the exact same for Vista Windows Mail. However, when I set up the account, before I can send and receive, I get a user verification screen where I have to type in my user name and password. This screen just shows up repeatedly even though I know I am using the right user name and password. I finally hit cancel and receive an error that my email could not complete execution to send and retrieve email messages for that account.
It is set as a POP account. I don't know if there is a problem with Vista compatibility, or a problem since I still have dialup and not highspeed, or if the school is wrong with their instructions for adding an account. I can provide more specific information regarding all the settings if anyone thinks they can help me. I am extremely frustrated with this since I have been able to view my school emails through my personal email account for years. Now I have to login to the school webpage and check my emails via a different link. I know it doesn't sound like that big of a deal, but the convenience factor right now is huge in my little world.

Aug 24, 2009I have a Windows Live Mail account and a Yahoo account and they both show up on the left hand side of my Window Live Mail account so I can choose which account I want to use or, for example, which inbox to look in. At the bottom, also on the left hand side of my Windows Live Mail account, it shows 'Add e-mail account', which is what I want to do with a new 'AOL' account and I want it to show on the left hand side like the two other accounts.
So I made a new AOL e-mail account, clicked 'Add e-mail account' at the bottom of my 'Windows Live Account', then I put in my new AOL e-mail account and password where it showed me. Then I clicked next.
The next page was all about my email server. When I did this before with a new e-mail account, it was all filled out automatically for me, but this time, all the blanks were left open and I have no idea what to fill in. I believe once I have this information, the AOL e-mail account will automatically then show on the left hand pane of my Windows Live Mail account below the other two accounts.

Problem is that i want to use microsoft Outlook but i can't transfer/export my email accounts from Vista Windows mail to Microsoft Outlook or even outlook express for XP. I have forgotten 3 critical passwords so I cannot recreate the email accounts in Outlook....

Sep 14, 2009This computer is new to me and so is vista - I have had no problem with email because I have always gone to my own ISP via explorer. Today, however, I wanted to reply to a craigslist seller and found that my computer was trying to send the email with windows mail (and not sending!)- it was asking me questions like who my outgoing server and incoming server is - can anyone tell me what I need to do? Do I have to use windows mail or can my computer be set to default to yahoo email like my old one was?

Outlook Express Email Called Old Email Backup
Jun 15, 2009move files from an XP to a Vista machine and exported all of his Outlook Express email, copied that file to the desktop on the Vista machine, then imported it into Vista's email program. However the folder for email is now on his desktop, and is called Old Email backup. I know that one of these days he is going to delete it and wonder where his email went. What is the default folder it should have created the email in? I will move it there.

On the desktop when I set up a new account in Oulook 2007 from hotmail, all my folders in the hotmail account come into Outlook but they are empty. My inbox, sent and delete folders do work but all the ones I created in hotmail are empty. When I log into hotmail via the internet they are there and have archived emails in them. On my XP laptop all of the folders are there & have emails but I use Outlook 2003. One more piece of input I also have a @msn.com account & all the folders created in that one come over to Outlook 2007 and have emails in them.
