Jun 3, 2010I have tried to set up an email acount with microsoft windows, but only got as far as receiving an error report. I filled in POP3 on the first part of the server dialogue box and SM(P?)T on the second box. These were complete random guesses as I have no idea what they mean or what the correct ones are, far less how to find them. Why do they have to make these systems so difficult? How do I find out this information?

It's very hard for me to send out attachments or just general mail unless I have it. I'm using Windows Vista and I do have an hotmail email account. Incoming e-mail server type:
(drop down menu w/choice of POP3, IMAP or HTTP)

Outgoing e-mail server (SMTP) name:
(blank space)
(box)Outgoing server requires authentication
how to fill this out? I have a WI-FI connection that is actually my neighbors service (they are friends and gave their approval for us to use it). Sorry to be so detailed but I noticed that others who posted similar Q's but were less so (detailed) got either vague answers or answers I didnt understand.

Mar 23, 2008Cannot get Windows mail to connect to my Yahoo POP3 server. Contacted Yahoo and we installed telnet and successfully connected to the servers through there. Old computer had Outlook express connected to the same account and I had no problems. Have checked the setting numerous times to insure they are correct. Have tried different port 's and different configurations - get different error messages but still no luck. Have checked all the firewalls (only have one on) and it has been configured to let Windows Mail have full access.
