When I try to shut down my computer I get an "End Program-EXPLORER.EXE" I click end now and the same box comes up again and the only way for me to shut down the computer is to hold down the button. Please help.
every time i try to shut down the computer i get an error saying that the above is casusing the programme not to respond and prompting me to end manually. Does anyone know why this is happening. Running windows xp with sevice pack 2
For several weeks "iexplorer.exe" would sometimes hog CPU time as viewed in Win Task Manager. Now, after some meddling with both MSIE and AOL, MSIE will not shut down. Well, it tries, then the messages: "We've detected an error and must shut down" and "Do you want to send an error message" appear. As soon as I click on the Error message, it starts back up.Also, whenever AOL starts, MSIE starts. MSN Portfolio Manager will not work due to a "Passport" problem (it works other places) which I am sure is related. I have re-installed AOL and MSIE.
Everytime I turn off my computer by clicking on "turn off computer," I receive an error message popup that states "Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to be closed." After that pop-up message, the computer freezes for about a minute and goes back to its normal format (desktop) and the computer DOES NOT TURN OFF. How do I turn off my computer without unplugging the computer? I try "ctrl+alt+del" to go to the windows task manager to "shut down" the computer but..the computer restarts again and doesnt turn off. Do I have a virus or a windows explorer problem? and how do i fix it?
Some days before I installed Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 for Windows XP-SP2. But I didnt feel secure with the changes and decided to uninstall it. But a problem comes. When I want to close the P C, I do as always: Click Start, Close, Shut Down. But, the P C instead of closing restarts. My Windows XP-SP2 is installed on Portuguese.
I have an xp Home Edition Computer on a wireless network with 3 user accounts. I want to prevent one user (child) from accessing and using one web site. ( AIM.com). I thought of uninstalling AOL Instant Messenger (AIM), but that would not totally resolve the problem. The child can still reconnect to the web and re-download the program again. How can I configure the xp computer to prevent such access and usage of AIM without affecting the privilages from the other users (Adults) to use the same IM?
i am basically the 'admin' of my family's computer, and my mom ONLY uses it for email and a web application for her work.the problem is, whenever she logs onto her user account, she gets bombarded with a ton of stuff (AIM, GMail notifier, etc.)is there any way to disable these programs from starting up on her account only?
A friend of mine has been using some kind of hack software, I assume a password logger, to crack my password and log on to my XP account. How can I prevent this? I wouldn't mind logging in with something other than a password.
Is there a way to just let the user access one or 2 program in Xp Pro. For instance, I only want my kids to access internet explorer and that's it. The rest of the Applications and those XP's goodies that are found in the Program are to be hidden. I only want IE to show in the Program or on the desktop. The rest are unaccessible and hidden.
I have a Windows XP PC dedicated to a machine that is constantly sending data via a serial port to the PC. When we power up the system the PC will sometimes think that the serial data coming in is a "new device" and installs it as a serial mouse. When the boot process is complete the PC runs a program from the Startup folder. When this program tries to open the serial port it is blocked by the "serial mouse" it thinks is there.
We have tried many things to prevent this problem. Disabling the mouse in Device Manager works for a while but eventually XP decides there is something wrong and does things like disable the COM port. We have tried disabling the Plug N Play services using MSCONFIG. This does not seem to prevent the detection of the "serial mouse" on boot up. We have a fixed set of hardware and software for this system that will never change. So I'd like to just disable all (or serial) device discovery on boot up. How is this done on XP?
If I've created a user account through the control panel, how do I make it so that others are unable to delete them? My 5 year old son has recently been deleting my user accounts and I need a way to prevent this from happening anymore.
Is it possible to prevent some users of a home computer from using installed software such as IE in favour of a bundled/branded version of IE that has more robust security provisioning? We have a family computer whereby children can surf the web using defined accounts, the security/safety settings work fine in the "bundled/branded browser" but can be subverted if IE itself is accessed.
Does anyone know how to stop XP from automatically creating these two folders each time I reboot, or at least creating them somewhere other than my documents? The pc is on my LAN at work.
Login in on my computer whatever, I have 4 messages that pop up saying something about csrss.exe and something about .dll or something. I don't know much. I searched on google and it said it was a worm or trojan. I have AVG as a virus scanner, but does not pick up any viruses, and its no good. Whatever this is, it is preventing me from going on the internet. So I dont know what to do. How do I remove this, so I can go on the internet again?
Whenever I go to Start>Documents, I can see the last 15 files that I have browsed. Is there a way to completely empty this folder and prevent the files you browse from ending up in it?
I decided to upgrade to Vista today from Windows Xp. Rather than doing the upgrade process, I decided to start off with a fresh format/install. after the first reboot in the Vista setup process (where Vista attempts to load data from the HDD) the system would just sit there after post as if the Vista loader couldn't properly detect the partition. I currently don't have time to troubleshoot the Vista problem with my system, so in desperation I have tried to go back to XP. I am able to boot into Windows XP setup, format the drive, and copy over the beginning essential files. However, after the system reboots after the initial copy of the data... XP is not capable of booting from the hard drive. this was not a problem before I tried to install Vista.
To check if a problem had occurred with the drive, I installed Ubuntu Linux. Ubuntu is able to boot from the drive without any problems. However....... when Ubuntu loads grub, it detects the following on the MBR: The Vista loader appears to be preventing Windows XP from properly booting from the hard drive. The drive is a Western Digital 320gb. I have 30 gbs set aside for Windows to boot from. The rest of the drive is another partition with files I cannot afford to lose.
I am having a problem logging onto my Windows XP system. I am getting the error "A problem is preventing windows from accurately checking the license for this computer. Error code: 0X80070002". I have found from several sources that I needed to regsvr32 files in order to make it work.
Could someone please tell me how I can turn off all forms of internet access for a user on my computer. I enabled a content filter to prevent access to all websites; however, the user can still access the web through programs such as Maya and Hudini (computer animation programs). I want to have internet access on all the user accounts with the exception of this one user account
I am running Windows XP Home with all the latest updates. The computer started normal today. Then within a couple of minutes it rebooted itself. When I went to open certain programs the picture and fax viewer screen comes up saying "No Preview Available." I am unable to get into my Nortons Anti-Virus, System Restore, certain parts of my control panel, etc. I keep getting the same screen as if all programs are now being viewed by the "Viewer" before they can be opened. Some of the programs will open.
I am computer illiterate. Be gentle with jargon! I have a LAN connection. Every time I try to go on a university site, a zonelab notice pops up saying a runtime error has occured do you wish to debug? Line:113 Error object expected. I want to be able to log onto my university's web site. How do I fix this?
I've tried deleting the hiberfil.sys file and looking everywhere I can think on the interwebs to find a solution, but have been unsuccessful.
When I try to hibernate, I get this:
The device driver for the 'WDC WD6400AACS-00G8B0' device is preventing the machine from entering hibernation. Please close all applications and try again. If the problem persists, you may need to update this driver. That's my boot drive. It's a Caviar green. From what I've read, it's rarely a driver problem, but caused by something indirectly.
I have Windows XP Professional loaded on several PCs having only two accounts 1) Administrator 2) Users. The Users account is only a member of the Guests group I had hoped that the restricted account would prevent users from changing the computer's appearance such as the desktop and Media Player skins, etc. Is this level of control possible?
I have windows XP SP2 PemtiumIII. The computer supports standby and hybirnate mode, but comes back with error message complaining about "3D RAGE IIC AGP device preventing the machine from entering Standby". What shall I do?
Yesterday my firewall picked up on an attempted attack on the computer, and since then my internet access has been limited (usually to sixty seconds). My DSL provider's tech support couldn't figure it out, so I'm posting to see if any of you can help. The only thing out of the ordinary that has occurred since the attempt, is the repeated notice that both IAMAPP.exe and bcont module have experienced difficulty, and must shut down. I had never received either message before.
In all cases, it is taking very very long, if at all, for any of the accounts to come up. That is, the icon and account name stay on the screen and the window behind the account never appears.. If the window behind the account does appear, visuscan may or may not complete startup (after minutes). If it does, aim.exe does not. I also have Radio.netscape
I'm using a new WD 250GB SATA drive model WD2500AAJS taken out of a new and unused DTVPAL DVR recorder unit by Direct TV as a secondary drive in my Hp Pavillion a100y desktop. Whenever I hook it up, the drive causes the error message Primary Slave Hard Disk Error, Press F1 to enter setup, but then goes to a black screen that just says WAIT, and freezes there. I have an older 500GB WD that works fine hooked up there. The WD tech told me to jump pins 7 and 8 to slow down the speed of the drive to make it compatible with the older computer, but no difference. Is there something done to drives like this one which make them unusable in a PC?
When I open remote assistance I recieve a message saying that my current settings prevent me from sending an invitation. What do I need to change to make this work?
I think that I have a virus which is stopping me from 1) Installing Norton Internet Security 2005 properly, and 2) Stopping me from accessing all anti-virus related sites, for example - www.symantec.com, ww.grisoft.com, www.pandasoftware.com, and when i tried to download AVG 6.0 from another site which was unrelated to antivirus, I found that I could access the site but the download failed.
I have an older PC running XP Home that I know only has USB 1.1 ports.
How do I permanently stop the "This USB device can perform faster if you connect it to a Hi-Speed USB 2.0 port. For a list of available ports, click here." balloon pop-up whenever I plug in a USB 2.0 device? This reminder is starting to be as annoying as MS-Office's Clippy or the Windows Search Assistant dog.
