Update IIS Meta Base Not Installed / Disabled Machine

After installing .Net Framework 1.1 and its Service Pack 1from Windows Updates this morning, I found some errors in the Application section of Event Viewer. I can't find much information about them and what little I found I didn't really understand. Could someone please tell me if I need to do anything? They are:

I had no idea what IIS was and whether I ought to have it, so I followed the link. This led to a "Sorry, no further information" message. I searched the Knowledge Base and found KB 555150, "How to add support for ASP.NET in Internet Information Services 5 and 5.1". This then pointed me to KB 308192, "How to configure Windows 2000 as a Web server".

i ran qfecheck in windows XP home edition, there were loads of KB files that needed reinstalling all were successful execpt the following, i downloaded from microsoft.

When I go System properties and I find that I have 1.5GB RAM installed on this machine. I would like to know how its divided? 1GB + 512MB OR 768MB + 768MB.

on my main machine i am able to download updates from http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp withautomatic updates - disabledbackground intellegent transfer service - manual& event log - automatic - startedwith the same settings on my newly installed machine with the same cd-key and website i'm redirected to http://update.microsoft.com/window [...] fault.aspx and i'm notified that i need the automatic updates, BITS, and event log services started both machines are using the same version of windows installer (v3.1),
internet connection, xp-sp2, and neither has gone through the genuine windows activation

I have an old HP Pavilion (A300N) that I purchased at retail some years ago. It came pre-installed w/ XP and a recovery partition in order to re-load the machine. I've recently re-loaded from the recovery partition, but darn if there isn't just gigs of unwanted software on the drive that came along for the ride when I recovered. This is clearly an OEM install of XP, and there is a Windows Product Key stiker on the case of the machine.
Will the OEM product key work if I re-install XP from a retail installation CD? I would be re-installing on the same box, so same internal components, etc. Seems like this should work, but I'd like to get an opinion from the experts here before I invest the time. Having the old XP box available in a clean state is important to me for other backup and redundancy issues here at home.

For the last week or so I have had a notice that M$ would like to install Quote: Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 I give it the "OK" and it looks like it is installing--- only to report that "The following update was not able to be installed" and it list the same one over again. I close it and five minutes later the notice is back again---- wants to install it again--- and again with the same results. My guess is that I would like to get rid of the file they have downloaded and let them try again--- seems like it might be defective download. I am running XP-SP2 with both .NET Framework 1.1 & 2.0 on the Add/Remove list

I tried to update my Acer laptop and I get a message "files required to use windows update are no longer registered or installed on your computer" There is then a radio button filled in and a "proceed" buuton to download and register the files. It then churns a percentage thing fro 0 to 100% and then I end up on the normal download page which I was on before, I hit "express - recommended" and I get the message "files required.........." again. And thus it never ends. After spending money on Microsofts premium call line I am told to contact Acer

Feel better now, Windows XP Media Center Edition Service Pack 2 (build 2600)is installed on my computer, I am aware that update (KB930494), is critical and necessary to maintain security integrity within my system yet it will not load regardless of what I do, (disabled all virus protection; spyware protection...etc) and any other installed program that may interfere, still I cannot load this update and only this update. I have a detailed analysis of my system (BeLarc), every KB****** (windows update) is installed per the 08/14/2007 Microsoft Security Bulletin Summary and functioning beautifully except for this one. It will not load and does not give a detailed sheet message either. It simply states that that KB930494 was an unsuccessful update....

My machine has suddenly started giving me an error on start-up. The little red shield appears in the system tray and a warning saying that my Norton Anti-virus software is not working and I am not protected. However after a short while this disappears.I think it has something to do with the order the initial TSRs etc. are loaded during the boot-up process, as once the Norton icon appears in the system tray the red shield disappears. My friend has a laptop with XP Professional installed. It was bought 2nd hand with no discs. Can he install XP Home Edition and use the Product key on the base of the laptop,or is this key only for Pro.Failing that can he use a new XP Home Upgrade to go over top of the Pro Edition?In case anyone is thinking the obvious, it isn't stolen. He just wants to wipe everything out and put on the laptop what he wants. I was thinking of using my XP Home for the job.

I got a virus. i took care of the problem but my desktop is just white. i still see the icons but the wallpaper is white. if i right click and go to properties i can change the base color but not the wallpaper design. if i go on the internet and set a picture as background it does nothing, but if i log off it will show.

When I search in Help and Support Center, no results are returned for the Microsoft Knowledge Base. I know this worked in the past (though how long ago, I have no idea). The option to search the Knowledge Base is checked. There are no other system problems to indicate corrupt system files. I've searched the web but haven't found anything yet that seems to apply. I'm reluctant to run a full SFC scan or repair the entire Help and Support feature since all other options appear to be working.

After our Dell Inspiron E1505 recently crashed , Dell talked us thru diagnostics and finally sent us a replacement(refurbished) Toshiba hard drive to install in our computer. After installing it, and reloading all of the software for Windows XP, MS Office Small Business 2003, drivers and utilities, using the discs that came with the computer, we have a "Found New Hardware" window that pops up - Wizard trying to install a "Base System Device" everytime we turn the computer on. It asks for a disc but none of my existing ones seem to be the correct one. I've given it permission to connect to the Internet to "find" the software but nothing works.Also, since the crash/re-install, our C drive only has 12.4 GBs of total disc space, and of that, only 1.2 is still free space. My D drive has about 37 GBs of disc space. Could these two problems be connected? The computer was running so slow and we would periodically get a message "low virtual memory". This weekend, I moved as many of our documents as possible to the D drive to try and free up space. It's a little better, but why do I have such a small amount of disc space?

i have an icon from microsoft.saids it has updates to install for microsoft office, update service pack 3.the only thing is it won't update.and the icon won't go away until it gets updated .plus norton keeps giving me a box saids norton can't update feature.to uninstall norton than reinstall.now my son did up my whole computer so i am afraid to really touch anything.

After installing and running MSE I have been unable to update definitions either manually or automatically. At the same time I noticed that microsoft automatic updates are getting to around 28 percent and then stopping - not fully downloading or installing. I cannot get through to any microsoft websites now - but all other sites are fine. wuauserv and bits are missing from services also. Have I been sneakily virused by something which MSE hasnt picked up. I tried to run malicious software removal tool - it downloads alright but wont install - says its not a valid win32 application. I correctly downloaded the 32bit app. Can anyone shed some light on any of this. I dont want to rebuild again and again.

I recently formated and restored windows to how it was when I bought it. Everything was ok except for updating using the Windows Update feature. I have it on, but when I go to the updating windows its not doing anything. Its suposte to scan, but its not scanning since it takes forever. On my other computer, it works in seconds.

I would like to know how to uninstall an update that was performed by Windows Update.The update itself was in the "Hardware, Optional" Type list (ie. not
the"High Priority"or the"Software,Optional" list)The update that was installed shows up in the History log correctly I believe that Microsoft incorrectly scanned the computer and assigned a hardware update that pertained to a different type of hardware ... specifically, the update pertained to an "IBM Thinkpad UltraNav Pointing Device" whereas the actual hardware is a Toshiba Satellite with a Synaptics Touchpad".
