Update Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) 2.0
Oct 14, 2009
I appear to have a problem with an update for windows XP. I belive my computer has been trying to update this file for some time but it is only now, when I have tried to install a new anti virus (Bit defender 2010), that it has become a real problem. Having said that it has also prevented me getting service pack 3 and explorer 7.
When using windows update I am told that the following has failed to install, Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) 2.0 and WinHTTP 5.1 (KB842773). It would appear that the file has downloaded but not installed. I have followed all the microsoft suggestions, one of which resulted in my having to repair windows. I have also googled this problem and found many references to the same update but no one appears to have a solution.
I am running windows XP service pack 3. on a dell dimension 3000, I can not get auto updates and when I try to turn on (Background Intelligent Transfer Services) it comes back and says the file is missing, This seems to have started after the Microsoft 3.0 service pack update, My original disks are service pack1.a
i have an icon from microsoft.saids it has updates to install for microsoft office, update service pack 3.the only thing is it won't update.and the icon won't go away until it gets updated .plus norton keeps giving me a box saids norton can't update feature.to uninstall norton than reinstall.now my son did up my whole computer so i am afraid to really touch anything.
It started when I decided I wanted to put a total of 4GB of RAM in my computer. The problem is that I have Windows XP x86 (32-bits) installed. Then, a few friends of mine adviced me to get rid of this old Windows XP (32-bits), get the total of 4GB of RAM and install Windows 7 x64.
My CPU's architecture supports x64 systems, as I have 4 cores. My main problem, is that I would have to reinstall all my programs, applications and drivers (because I have the 32-bits-versions installed) and that if I stay with my 32-bits-XP system, it would only read 3 to 3.5GB of RAM aprox.
I normally remove the updates/SPs from my Windows folder after a few days of running with the SP installed. All those packs can take up a ton of space. I move them to a separate folder for safe keeping for about a week, then, if all is well, I delete them. I don't think I've deleted the IE7 SP, but I don't know what the SP number is.
Concerning windows XP i'm being promted with an update to install service pack 3 (SP3) i'm currently running on (SP2) i've researched on (SP3) but before installing the upgrade would just like to know from users already using (SP3) what their comments are.
Can anyone tell me what this update is for which is considered high priority? I read what it says but still did not understand if I need it. I am only using this home pc. it is not at a business.
ive recently encountered a problem with automatic update. it doesnt seem to want to turn on,nor can i get any updates through windows updates..when i try to start it through administrative services i get this error....(error 1058: the service cannot be started either because its disabled ,or because it has no enabled devices associated with it)..however,automatic updates is turned on to "automatic" and "background intelligence transfer" and "event log" are also on. it just doesnt seem to want to start.when i click on "windows update" to update my computer on the web it tells me that there was an error starting this service because one of these three services is not running, however they are all running. my clock will also not synchronize either,no matter how i try.i cannot find any other services that might effect automatic updates from running. i have windows xp sp3. this just started today.
We are running Windows XP Professional SP3 on an HP Pavilion D4100Y. After a recent Windows Update, the computer was completing the update installation before shutting down, when the surge protector was accidentally turned off before the computer was finished with the updates. Now, when the computer powers up, it goes to the Windows XP splash screen, flashes blue for a quick second and the computer reboots.
If we access the Boot Menu, the Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Networking, Safe Mode with Command Prompt, Enable VGA Mode, Last Known Good Configuration options all lead to the OS Choices menu, which gives "Windows XP Professional" and "Windows Recovery Console" options. Both options reboot the computer. Only the Disable Automatic Restart option doesn't reboot the computer, and it gives a BSOD with STOP error 0x00000024........
i just recently bought a new ipod and i need to install itunes but first I have to update my windows xp to service pack 2 or higher everytime I try i get the install halfway then the access denied message pops up. I tried the various solutions i found on google and its still doing it, I even d/led registry mechanic and clean and repair all my registry and its still doing access denied error.
I seem to be having trouble with both of my PC's (dell dim 2400's with XP home) accessing the Windows Update site. I can never get on and get the usual page suggesting to try later or try downloading manually, which I can't do either. None of my System Restore points work (on either one)! Also, our DSL connection is working fine, as for as IE6 goes. (I can get Google, Yahoo, Bestbuy.com, ect.) I can't access the msn web-site either and Outlook Express 2003 hangs during the receiving part. I've tried Trend-Micro's Housecall and it cleaned several trojans, but I still have the same problems. I've never experienced this "Denial of Service" attacks.
Anyone here having probs trying to install this latest update from Microsoft?I'm running Winxp home sp2.The update just sits in my system tray and when i tries to install it it fails.
I have recently done a clean Windows XP Install followed by installing Service Pack 1 then 3.Everything was running smoothly and I was able to log into the desktop. However when I tried to check for updates via Windows update, in Internet explorer however it always says the 'Internet Explorer cannot display this webpage'After diagnosing the issue, it found no problems.I can browse any other website but sometimes when I click on an item through doing a google search, it sometimes sends me to a random search engine page!!
i went to windows update and updated to service pack 3 and internet explorer8. i am connected and can get on yahoo messenger but cannot open any web page says i have connection problems
I bought a new laptop with Windows XP in it, I wanted to transfer some files from my Desktop PC which has Vista to my laptop with XP, I bought a Belkin USB Data Transfer Cable to transfer files with help of Windows Easy Transfer but when I installed the software provided with it, it seemed that I can only transfer files from XP to Vista.
I'm scared to try and interpret for my own use. I have 81 processes running and have no idea which ones I can disable and which ones to not. I'm always nervous about messing with that. But, am I right in thinking that disabling something in the MSCONFIG thing at startup won't affect the program??? Can you still get to it? It just won't start up automatically, right? So, could I hurt anything if I disabled alot? So, how could I give you a list of all the processes running? I'm also having a problem with the xp update. I'm always showing that I need to update, but when I do this one part always fails. Here is what it says.
Security Update for Microsoft.net framework, Version 1.1 Service KB928366 didn't update. I'm not sure why, but it won't ever update. Also, in AOL I get an error message constantly which says this: A Runtime Error has occurred. Do you wish to debug. Line:? Error: Object Expected. I have no idea what that means and what or how to debug. I have tried repeatedly to uninstall and reinstall AOL but it keeps happening. Does anyone know what that means.
I've recently ran into an opportunity to install 64-bit windows XP. I can't really get Vista at the moment, so I'm considering this. Google has been vague on it, and most of the articles that I've read say that it's a bad idea. Granted they were published in 2005.
Just wondering. When I set BITS, Background Intelligent Transfer Service to automatic & started using services.msc, after a while, maybe days later, it goes back to manual & stopped. When I look at http://www.theeldergeek.com/background_intelligent_transfer_service.htm it seems to suggest that I could set it either way. Since I never seem to get windows update automatically, although I do get them manually, I just wanted to try this setting to see if it would work for me. . Running win xp pro, sp2, dell dimension 2350, 1 GB mem, 2.0 GHz, cable modem. Usually run daily auto scans with MSAB & AVG7. Also have AdawareSE, Spybot, Spyware Blaster.
I have been having problems with .msi and other Windows Installer files. The first problem was based BITS not being enabled in the services.msc - and thus it was fixed. Some msi files, such as Apple iTunes updates and the simple usage of Windows Defender, are hindred unless I manually open services.msc via Run, then start Windows Installer Service; which has been set to start with the startup, and to do so automatically.I don't know why it's failing to start, but it is.
I'm looking to boost my computer performance in terms of speed. Simple question will an upgrade to windows 7 64bits make a difference? mainly for home enteraintment and gaming.
Since there are 8 bits to a byte there can be a major misunderstanding with abbreviations. Are there standard abbreviations for bits and bytes? I always assumed bits was small b and bytes was capital B. Is this true? 100 MB - mega bytes. 100 mb - mega bits.Is a 56k modem 56k bytes or bits per second? Can I assume everything is bytes unless bits is specifically stated?
I've suddenly started getting bits of menus left behind on my screen - for example the 'Open Outlook' choice from clicking the Outlook icon on the toolbar stays as white text on a blue background.AVG and antimalware scans show no infection and the onboard video driver is up to date.A hijack this log looks OK.A reboot or changing the video settings gets rid of it but otherwise it hangs around annoyingly.I've searched everywhere but found nothing helpful. The computer is a DELL Vostro 200 running XP with all the service packs installed.
I have Windows XP on a DELL. I tried to download the display monitor driver for E772C. When I tried to follow the instructions after downloading which told me to follow the following path: Right click on the background. Go to properties which pulls up display properties. Click on the Settings tab. Click on the Advanced button. Click on the monitor tab. Then it said to click on Properties but is grayed out so I still cant change the color to more than 4 bits.
When I get to the Log On screen, two of the user pictures have some small light blue bits joined to their right. When the mouse moves over them, they get smaller, and when it is off, they go back to their original size. After logging in, this problem is continued on the desktop, where it does it around a medium sized white box in my background. It happens in any program opened up, around the top, and around the Start menu bar. After a while, Internet Explorer stops doing it, apart from on certain pages, the same each time. However, when Internet Explorer has got over the problem, any programs opened up in front of it do not have the problem, until you close or minimize Internet Explorer. It does not happen to the three other users which, on the Log On screen do not have blue bits on. The lighter bits of an image tend to get light blue bits dispersed in. Is there anything I can do? The problem started around two days ago, without any seeming action to start it.MS Paint does not stop showing blueness even with Internet Explorer open, until size of window is changed to the actual size of the canvas minus about 20 px.
XP operating system. When I receive an e-mail with several photos I usually scroll through the photos with the right arrow target. After the last photo I start seeing bits and pieces of web sites that I have visited. What is causing this and how can it be prevented? When I send an e-mail with a photo in it am I sending this junk?
I have had Windows XP on my computer for 3 years, during that time I have had no problems with updates. A couple of days ago updates were running when I got the following message box. Service pack 3 setup. Access denied1! Microsoft will now un-install the current updates. At this point I was in a hurry to leave and shut off my computer thinking that when I started up again, the updates would resume their activity.......
