Unable To See All Of The Contents While Opening Folders?
Jan 27, 2009
my problem is that sometimes i open up a window on my desktop but cannot view all of the content in the window because the window is too small to display it all. the window cannot be maximized nor can i scroll up or down or enlarge it by clicking and dragging the edges.
Hi everybody. Since a couples of days, when I clic on a folder into the left panel of Windows explorer, it takes really long and is Very, very slow to show up the related contained folders and/or its contents in my Windows explorer's right panel. I have a Pentium4 processor and additional 3GB of rams I also tried to adjust my PC for best performances in "advanced" Performances/properties of MY Computer.
So I was installing windows xp on a dell 4300, I was basically done when suddenly the monitor went black and said it can't display the content (dell E207WFP anyways, I tried some other old 15" dell monitor lcd, same problem. I am repairing the installation now, but I have no idea how to fix the problem if I can't see the screen. I have other computers at my disposal, but since I have no idea how far along the setup is (it is close to done, I think just setting up the accounts left).
i have got winXp sp-2 i have got to open hidden files when i go to view and click "show all files" i am unable to view the hidden files again when i go to view folder options and click "show hidden files and folders" after saying apply again it the tickmark goes to "donot show hidden files and folder".
recently I was messing around with my folder options and i came along the file types in the folders options, as you can see there are many registered file types below, anyway on that list I went along to "File Folders" and I was messing around with it, then i went to the advanced menu and see commands there for stuff...I touched something and now i cant get my folders opening normal.
When I open certain folders in my computer, these folder tend to take ages to load. I checked the graph in the performance window (Ctrl+Alt+Del) but there was no suddeny increase of CPU usage. Others folder is normal, I double click and it show nicely. Just for certain folder. Is it because of the number of files in the folder? It dont happen when I open my C: drive but if i open that particular folder. The windows explorer just stop responding.. and i had to wait for it to come out. If i access a folder under it and hit back or up, again it will stuck there again n wait for it to load.
I read alot of manga that I download from online. Now after extracting it from a .rar file I try to open it to read it. Explorer.exe crashes and gives me and error message.
I'm using Windows XP Pro. For the last few days, whenever I click a folder it opens a Search window instead of an Explorer window, as I prefer. I went to Tools > Folder Options > File Types then highlighted "File Folder" and clicked the Advanced button.
I'm running Windows XP SP2 on a Dell Dimension XPS with 250GB hard drive (about 80GB free), 2GB RAM, a Maxtor 300GB USB external hard drive, and an HP Scanjet 5590. Ever since I installed the Maxtor drive and the HP scanner, the respective folders in "C:Program Files" open on the desktop every time I startup Windows. I find this annoying. Under File Explorer folder options view dialog box, I tried unchecking "Restore previous folder windows at logon," which did not help. I looked in my startup folder, but there is no shortcut to these folders there. I checked the registry under "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE" and "HKEY_CURRENT_USER" but I cannot seem to find a reference to these folders relating to startup. Perhaps I missed something. Should I be looking elsewhere (in the registry or somewhere else)?
My XP Pro SP2 PC is now doing something rather strange.Instead of open a folder in Windows Explorer, it opens a command prompt window, to the path of the folder, when the folder icon is clicked. This only happens if I click on a folder in the right pane of Windows Explorer. Clicking on a folder in the left pane opens the folder in the right pane, as it should.I have the same problem with any shortcuts to folders on my Desktop. Instead of opening the folder, it opens a commnad prompt with the path to the folder.I know this has something to do with the File Types tab.If you click Tools, Folder Options, in Windows Explorer. However, when I go into the Advanced properties of "File Folder", I can only Add, I can't Edit or Remove. And yes, I am logged on as a member of the Admins group.
Intel Core 2 duo, E8500 3.16, 4 gb RAM. Running XP sp3 I am pretty sure that I am not lacking in power. However, I am REALLY SLOW, when opening folders, and going back and forth using the back and forth buttons in XP. I click, I get an hour glass for a seconds then it initiates. I have cleared out my Prefetch folder, changed a few registry settings, yada yada. I just cant figure it out. This is a fairly new install, just did a zero fill on my HD about a month ago.
After a format and opening My Computer which i have set to open as Explorer and selecting the view to List, i click tools>folder options>view > apply to all folders, then i change the my computer folder to view details but the thing is My computer shows detail but all other folders remain in icons. Why won't they be in List? I uploaded a 2 screens First one of how one of how everyother folder looks like the Second My Computer looks like when clicking on My Computer. Now after setting the option in My computer for view clicking tools>folder options>view tab>apply to all folders. The folder view only changes for My Computer all other folders remain unchanged.
I'm running XP, SP2, and every time I open a folder, whether My Computer, Control Panel or on my desktop, the installation of Adobe Acrobat begins. If I then cancel the installation, the desired window opens up and I can navigate up and down as normally - it only happens on the initial double-click to open the folder. The only thing I've been doing recently that might have changed settings and prompted this was in attempting (without success) to set up a home network. I've run a full AVG virus scan without results.
All the folders on my computer are now opening into a new window with the Search function. I have to right-click and choose open to get into my folders. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can fix this?
This only applies to my folders, but everytime I left-click them, it gives me the search window instead of opening it. I don't remember changing it to do this, is there a way to change to back to Open?
When i open a folder search pops up and doesnt open the folder, when i right click on the file "search..." is in bold. How do i change this to open the folder directly
When i double click on a folder in say "my documents", a search window opens instead of opening an open window. If i right mouse click on a folder the word "Search" is shown at the top of the list in Bold instead of "Open". how can i fix this?
My old m/b got fried, so i changed to another m/b and used the same hd for it, and i reinstalled windows XP after deleting the previous, but now when i'm trying to access a folder or file, i get this error "Document may be write protected or encrypted", i really need to open this file, how can i overcome this error?
When I try to open one of My Folders (One that I added to my desktop with application I added to it) with a double left click a search results window opens instead of the folder opening and displaying the contents of the folder with things I've put into it. If I right click on one of my folders and go down and left click on open the folder will open and the contents displayed as I expect (The first opetion displayed is a search after I right click). Any other folder including My Documnets folder will open the folder and display the contents correctly. At one time it used to work correcly and its not a major issue but I would sure like it fixed > Any ideas?
I've recently started worrying about spyware and viruses now my connection is being leeched by some outside source.I started downloading programs to remove spyware, viruses, and trojans.I open certain programs, they are shut down immediately. I experience the same problem with msconfig. I have a feeling that it's a virus trying to keep me from running programs which could find and delete it.I cannot run msconfig, TDS-03, The Cleaner, Norton Anti-virus, or HiJack This unless I am in safe mode. AdAwareSE and Spybot:S&D do work and I have used them to fix all problems that they found.
I have checked into everything I can think of so that I can view images in my e-mail and on e-card websites.I have also downloaded netscape but it is the same there.I have a Dell Dimension 4600 Series desktop computer.I use Windows XP, Norton SystemWorks Premier 2005. I have Spyware Blaster, Pop Up blocker and a firewall.I have gone to each of these and checked anything that would prevent being able to view images.I get a blank bacground with a tiny square with a red x in it. I did a system restore due to a Trojan virus about 2 weeks ago, and nothing now shows up in my scans
I have a new pc freshly installed with XP SP3. I used it as a server, I shared the two harddrives and mapped them as drive F and G on the network. The sharing and mapping is successfull, however, after a few minutes of being started (or after the pc has been restarted), the sahred folders and harddrives were self-disconnected for unknown reasons. My colleage timed it, and the sharing lasts only 15 minutes after restart then it is disonnected from the network. When i say disconnected - i mean i can't be seen from other PC's connected to the network, i need to restart the pc (again and again) in order for the harddrive and folder sharing is restored. I can say it is disconnected because the sharing icon (a hand with a disk drive on the palm) disappears and other PC's cannot access it.
As an fyi ... I'm on Windows XP and email through MS Office Outlook. My computer was working fine until we suffered 2 power surges within minutes of each other today. The tv, stereo, phone & fax are fine. My computer powers on and the first error message appears: winlogon.exe - unable to locate component. This application has failed to start because sfc_os.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem. Next, I try to go into 1 of 3 email accounts. First error message here: Unable to open your default email folders.
I have had this problem for a couple of years now, even in a few different computers. I have a folder with files I am keeping, copying it from computer to computer when I change computers. In this folder I am unable to see folder/file names unless I mark them. This has irritated me to some extent since there are around 12-13000 files in this folder by now. I have asked around at computer-tech stores, and some of my more or less nerdy friends. One of wich is mostly always able to help me but not with this.
somehow the default setting when i double click a file folder changed from "open" to "search". in my efforts to solve the problem i created a shortcut that does not work and i can't get rid of it because the "remove" option is greyed out in the "edit file type" window.
I have two machines on my home net and both run XP-Pro.Problem 1 is that I have something like 30k files in the recyclers on my D Drive that I can't delete.Problem 2 is that I recently did a restore from a backup and even though user names, admin access etc are same I can't access open or even delete many of the unused folders. I have tried moving them to shared files folder, and using my admin privilege to take ownership and or change attributes but nothing so far works. Safe boot, safeboot command prompt all nada. can any one help me out here ?
Using XP SP2 and I can not move, rename or delete any folders. For example - I create a New Folder and try to rename it - it stays as New Folder. I try to move ANY folder and it does not move - stays where it is. Even when copying contents of a USB stick - folders will not move, be renamed or deleted. I CAN however, move files and rename and delete files - just not ANY folder!I can delete the folders from the command prompt though.
I am working in domain with 30 desktops and one server. Every user is able to access shared folders from every other system as per rights assigned. But in one system, whenever an user tries to access shared folder he gets the following message: "\*.*.*.* is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The account is not authorised to log in from this station."
I got a message from Outlook asking permission to compress my e-mail file folders. It's done this before and I've always let it with no problem.I fired up my computer yesterday and discovered that all my e-mail folders, all received and sent messages have disappeared.I thought my wife may have accidentally erased the files so I checked the Recycle Bin. There were several .bak files with the same names of the file folders.I figured hit the restore button and the files would be restored.
