Opening Files And Folders Results In Getting Search Option?
Jul 13, 2005
All the folders on my computer are now opening into a new window with the Search function. I have to right-click and choose open to get into my folders. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can fix this?
Dont know why but when i click or double-click de hard-Drive (C:, D:,) the search open automatically.. the only way to enter is right-click and choose open.i notice when i right-click the drive , the menu has the search in black and not the open. how can i edit and set the open the default or reset it.
When i open a folder search pops up and doesnt open the folder, when i right click on the file "search..." is in bold. How do i change this to open the folder directly
When i double click on a folder to open it, or single click of the start menu, it brings up a search, rather than the contents of the folder. How do i change it back so that just by clicking or double clicking opens the folder rather than bringing up the search window?
I'm using Windows XP Pro. For the last few days, whenever I click a folder it opens a Search window instead of an Explorer window, as I prefer. I went to Tools > Folder Options > File Types then highlighted "File Folder" and clicked the Advanced button.
This only applies to my folders, but everytime I left-click them, it gives me the search window instead of opening it. I don't remember changing it to do this, is there a way to change to back to Open?
When i double click on a folder in say "my documents", a search window opens instead of opening an open window. If i right mouse click on a folder the word "Search" is shown at the top of the list in Bold instead of "Open". how can i fix this?
When I try to open one of My Folders (One that I added to my desktop with application I added to it) with a double left click a search results window opens instead of the folder opening and displaying the contents of the folder with things I've put into it. If I right click on one of my folders and go down and left click on open the folder will open and the contents displayed as I expect (The first opetion displayed is a search after I right click). Any other folder including My Documnets folder will open the folder and display the contents correctly. At one time it used to work correcly and its not a major issue but I would sure like it fixed > Any ideas?
Files named regex.fndIs there a way to save the results of a search, not just the "arg" of the search? If not, is there a 3rd party software for this, hopefully freeware?
I double click on a Jpeg it opens in Windows Paint instead of the Windows Fax and Picture viewer as it has always done.BMP and GIFS still open correctly When I check under properties it states that Windows Picture and Fax viewer is the programme it opens with and that is highlighted in the drop down column. I can open them when I use the right click drop down menu and select preview, then it will open in the viewer. I have ran Norton Antivirus, spybot, Ewido, adaware. I have tried changing the Jpegs to open with paint, then changing it back again, still won't budge.
For some reason tonight my computer decided that when I try to open a file by double clicking on a file icon, it brings up a search window with the little wizard fellow. If I right click and open up the file that way, no problem. Just everytime I double click to open any file, I'm off to a search window with the subject of the search whatever file I was trying to open.
when I go to my search for files or folders (CTRL-F) the window opens but all that is there is the animated character. The search balloon isn't there and I can't open any of the toolbar menus
My friend has some important photos in his memory card which is in cell phone. They are not appearing in the cell phone. But, they are appearing in my PC when connected using the data cable (USB) and after checked the option "show hidden files and folders". They are reappearing in the cell phone after deleting and recopying the files to cell phone. My question is ,the "show hidden files and folders" is a option in windows based operating systems. But, why it is effecting the memory card. Why they are not appearing in the cell phone.

My Search Companion now calls itself Search Results and does not offer to find Pictures, music, or video, Documents, etc. Also the animated assistant is not available nor is the change preferences option. I had a nasty virus attack and had to repair XP Pro. All else is repaired as far as I can tell, but this version of Search is not nearly as handy.
I need some help. I'm running windows xp pro w/SP2. Everytime I select search to look for files/folders it hangs. It doesn't work. Is there a fix for this?
I use Windows XP SP2. Recently noticed that when I left-click on any of the icons of the Hard-disk drives and/or Devices with Removable Storage within 'My Computer', the 'Search' Option opens up by default instead of the 'Open' option, like in other folders. Likewise, when I right-click on the said icons, the 'Search' option is topmost & the 'Open' option has been relegated to second position. I would like the Search option to come first. Can't remember whether this was so from before or changed recently. I have used Norton Partition Magic 8 recently to resize my partitions.
Since a couple of days I've been having this weird glitch. When I double-click the drive folder, the folder does not open. Instead, the Search Results window is displayed. However, when I right-click the folder, and then choose "Open", the drive folder opens normally displaying my programs etc. Dunno if this is related or not but this began after I installed IE7, the first time around installing the installation crashed on me, second time around worked. This only happens to the drive folders, not the folders/ subfolders themselves, they still function normally.
I just started having a problem with search in Windows XP (sp3). The other options work ok, but search "all files and folders" crashes Explorer.exe. I reinstalled search assistant from the original XP disc -- still the same problem.I think this is the right error in the event log:Faulting application explorer.exe, version 6.0.2900.5512, faulting module kernel32.dll, version 5.1.2600.5512, fault address 0x00012aeb.For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
The problem is that when I access certain sites IE/Firefox just shuts down, no error message, no warning just snaps shut. Any time I access EZ board chat rooms or any page but the home page from the Fort Worth Rowing Club I have had it happen on other sites but I don't remember the names.
On Msn Messenger, a friend sent me a file containing pictures. when i opened the file, my computer froze up, and than sent the file to everybody that was loggen in to msn. After running Multiple scans , Norton Antivirus coulnd find anything wrong. But my computer constantly freezes and send a file containng a virus to everybody online. I was told i might have a worm.

When I click the 'my computer' icon in windows xp it takes a while to load, upwards of 20 seconds to display my hdds etc. I made some changes to services.msc last week in an attempt to speed up my machine, any thoughts on something I may have disabled which would result in this?
When I click on a desktop icon it opens the Windows Installer with a message that says "preparing to install". In about two minutes my documents will open, or I can re-click on "My documents" in about 5 seconds and it will open immediately and a second copy of "My documents" opens in about 5 minutes. This is a Dell 300m laptop with XP pro. I spent 45 minutes on the phone with a Dell technician who, I think, finally hung up on me when he was stumped. I tried to reinstall Windows from the disks provided by Dell but I got an error message that said the copy of XP was older than the one currently installed
whenever i open a folder by double-clicking it (from the desktop for example) it opens up a new windows with blank search results. the only way i can open new folders is through windows explorer. please help!
What ever happened to the nice Windows Search function? All of a sudden I have something called Desktop Search. My Windows used to find anything on my entire HDD. Now it returns no results in a fraction of a second if what I'm looking for is not actually on the desktop. What's going on here?
I've done a search on my drive to locate all the Power Point files and came up with 1712 results. I need to export these results to a user friendly format (preferably xls) so that I have the name of the file, the location, the size and the date modified. How do I go about doing this? I am also interested in creating a tree diagram that will show the entire structure of my drive, i.e. think something like the explore's bar view folders option with expand all. MS DOS PROMP will give you such an option but it's not really user friendly.
