This only applies to my folders, but everytime I left-click them, it gives me the search window instead of opening it. I don't remember changing it to do this, is there a way to change to back to Open?
View 1 RepliesWhen I try to open one of My Folders (One that I added to my desktop with application I added to it) with a double left click a search results window opens instead of the folder opening and displaying the contents of the folder with things I've put into it. If I right click on one of my folders and go down and left click on open the folder will open and the contents displayed as I expect (The first opetion displayed is a search after I right click). Any other folder including My Documnets folder will open the folder and display the contents correctly.At one time it used to work correcly and its not a major issue but I would sure like it fixed > Any ideas?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI had some spyware/viruses/malware recently, and they've now all been cleaned up with internet security software, but I still have a lingering problem: when I double-click on a folder, instead of the folder opening, a new window opens and it's a search window, with the destination folder (ie the one I just clicked on) as a value in the parameter "look in:". The only way I can just open a folder is to right-click, and select open.
When I right-click on a folder, the menu reads: "Search (bolded) / Open / Explore" etc. which doesn't seem right.
I tried to fix it by changing some options in Tools -> Folder Options -> File Types. There are two kinds of folder, "File Folder" and "Folder". In the advanced options for "File Folder", the only action it lists is "find"... I'm not sure if this is where the problem is or if this is normal? I tried to add a new action, but it wanted me to select an application to perform the action and I have no idea... In the advanced options for "Folder", it looks to be normal, it lists the actions "explore" and "open" (bolded).
The only folder that seems unaffected by this problem is the "Documents" folder on the desktop, and any shortcuts that point to folders.
i have this problem, when i click on any folder o shorcut to a folder the search window is open, i need to open every folder from the explore option on right click of the mouse. any help?
View 2 Replies View Relatedwhy i start My Computer (also happens when My Computer is highlighted in Windows Explorer) and when I clicked on C drive it opened the Search window. So from then on when I want to explore the contents of A (Floppy drive), C (hard drive), D (CD drive) or E (DVD burner) drives I've go to right-click and select Open or Explore from the context menu.
FYI, the order of commands in the context menu are:
Search...
Explore
Open
My XP Pro SP2 PC is now doing something rather strange.Instead of open a folder in Windows Explorer, it opens a command prompt window, to the path of the folder, when the folder icon is clicked. This only happens if I click on a folder in the right pane of Windows Explorer. Clicking on a folder in the left pane opens the folder in the right pane, as it should.I have the same problem with any shortcuts to folders on my Desktop. Instead of opening the folder, it opens a commnad prompt with the path to the folder.I know this has something to do with the File Types tab.If you click Tools, Folder Options, in Windows Explorer. However, when I go into the Advanced properties of "File Folder", I can only Add, I can't Edit or Remove. And yes, I am logged on as a member of the Admins group.

I just installed a new external USB hard drive on my notebook to increase my storage capacity. The problem is, in doing so I must have enabled some weird seach option, because when I double-click either drive (C: or external) in My Computer it brings up a search window with that drive selected as where I want to search. Any ideas what caused this or how to disable it?

View 2 Replies View RelatedSince a couple of days I've been having this weird glitch. When I double-click the drive folder, the folder does not open. Instead, the Search Results window is displayed. However, when I right-click the folder, and then choose "Open", the drive folder opens normally displaying my programs etc. Dunno if this is related or not but this began after I installed IE7, the first time around installing the installation crashed on me, second time around worked.This only happens to the drive folders, not the folders/ subfolders themselves, they still function normally.

and start menu option I wanted to see if my desktop icons were locked. So i
browsed around and when i did i saw all the icons left from old software
programs i do not and have not used as a matter of fact some programs i did

question is how do i safely remove these folders and files in my program
files and how do I get rid of these icons. It is disturbing to know you
uninstalled thru add/remove programs yet there is still stuff in the program

Apparently the default selection governs what happens when you left click. I want to restore "open" as the default choice, but can't figure out how. Does it require a reg edit or a utility program or what? TIA
When I try to do several things (such as click Settings/Control Panel/System or Settings/Control Panel/Add Remove Programs) I get the DOS shell window flash for 1/8 sec or so and nothing else. If I read correctly this is flashing an error message too quickly to read or something along those lines.. I'm guessing this was caused by a program I used to overclock my system a while back or one I used to customize some setting or other and I don't remember exactly which one.

They each must be maximised if each is opened with no other window open and maximised. My curent problem is that When I rightclick a desktop icons I only get an hour glass, the system stops responding to any thing. The only way out of it it to either log off or shut down and restart.When I open the recycle bin though it appears full on the desktop icon I could not see any item on it.If I try do delete, move this folder or any of the command on the left file/folder task pane I only get hour glass. The only way out of it is ctrl+alt+del, task manager (program not responding) end task.
