Sony Vio Extreamly Slow Startup - Ran The System Defragmenter
Aug 1, 2007
I have no idea, but about 5 days ago, my computer started acting very slow on boot up.I play a sound upon boot up and the them song plays angonizingly slow. From power on to full access its nearly 7 mins.
My Dell Latitude Laptop 400Mhz 128MB ram 100GB HD has been really slow ever sence a spyware infection (witch has been cleaned). Windows 2000 takes 2 minutes just to get pass Preparing Network Connections on startup and once windows is started it can take a long time to start up programs.
After a recent power outage in LA I switched of the power supply (P/S) switch and then the surge protector - no UPS. I came back two days later after a business trip and found the P/S was NFG. Enermax were nice enough to test while I waited and replaced it for me this on the spot, great customer service on 14 month old P/S. Now I can power up the machine but it's extremely slow and the desk top just hangs.
Ok for the past month or so my computer has been booting EXTREAMLY slow. But once up runs pretty normal with a few exceptions. (videos you have to let buffer fully or they will jerk around and other minor things) But from the time you push the power button till the desk top appears and is ready to go is around 10 mins. I have tried many things
My XP Pro machine at work has recently started running extreamly slow on bootup. It runs fine up to the username and password window, but as soon as i sign in it then takes atleast 15 min before i can use it. I have a PF usage of 2.24 gig during this time and my HijackThis details are below:
I recently downloaded and installed the latest security updates for Win XP. The computer runs fine, but when it is time to shut it down it takes an extremely long time to complete the shut down. I defragmented the hard drive thinking that would solve the problem but it had no noticeable affect
My computer will not start up. It boots and and gets to a screen where it asks if I want to start windows normally. I do that and then the window xp logo appears and then it reboots and starts all over again. Right after the window xp logo appears something runs across the screen and disappears to fast to see what it is.I have norton internet and antivirus and the sp2 pack of windows xp installed. However, I have not installed anything recently. Just prior to the problem my comcast high speed internet went down and when it came on that is when I had the problem. I can boot from the CD-rom and have done a check with a cdrom norton and I have no viruses, but it is not the latest viruses on the disk and I dont know how to down load them onto the cdrom from norton site.
My computer started slowing dow about a month ago. It got to where it took forever to load when I turned the computer on and even opening software took forever. Same with turning it off. It also hangs up on me. I can't even press Ctrl + Alt+ Delete to end a program when its not responding. I have to strictly turn the computer off just to get somewhere. I uninstalled and reinstalled Norton. I have the entire Norton system and catches nothing. It says all systems are working properly. I was asked earlier if I had ever put a music CD in the computer that was by SONY, and I can say that probably close to 20 over the 4 years that I have had it. I was told that SONY puts this "thing" on the CDs that transfer to your computer before you even hear the music so that you are penalized if you try to duplicate them.
when i first start up my PC it seams slow. like when i try to use a program. its slow to starting up. but after a while things seams to speed up to normal
Dell computer with Windows XP SerPac 2.Computer boots very slowly - about 5 minutes. I have cleaned out the startup files, defraged, used several registry cleaners, etc., but no luck.Tried to boot from the OEM-supplied XP CD but system doesn't recognize it. Tried to go to setup and repair/reinstall operating system by pressing F8 on startup but doesn't work.
XP Professional Media Computer is getting slower and slower booting up. It takes at least 4 minutes to fully load and connect to the dsl internet. My hard drive is 144GB and I have only used 20 GB's. I have run Spy-Bot, Ad-Aware, cc cleaner defragged and up to date virus software.
it wasnt problematic when i 1st set it up about a month ago. the startup was defo alot quicker.the system sometimes hangs during a game, it used to hang on startup but i fixed that with system restore in startup because of the slow startup (where it doesnt seem to be actually doing anything! no cpu of mem usage just ages to load startup programs) i used some startup removal programs to delete all unnecessary startup program, it hasnt speeded anything up it takes the same amount of time but just loads less programs.i have also run ccleaner, reg cleaners, tried running ad-aware but never completed a scan as it freezes. i have always had zonealarm pro runing and bitdefender
when powering up it seems to show the blackscreen very often, asking to turn on in safe mode? even when the pc had been shutdown properly. othertimes on powering on the pc hangs on the windows loading page or when enering the password.the pc can also restart randomly during general use or gaming.this is very fustarting and was hoping you guys could give me some of your advice? i was thinking maybe do a system restore to the day when the pc was first built? would this be a really dumb move? what would be the consequences?
When I open my Administratives Tools, "Computer Management console" the "disk defragmenter", the "disk management" are VERY SLOW 2Respond and even freeze (not responding) when I clic on a any of the disk task.I run Win XP SP3 very well so far.. and I had since "few days" problems with a VERY LONG black screen before the logon screen.http://forums.cnet.com/5208-6142_102-0.html?threadID=358991 .first time I resolve it just with a restore back but it begins again.
Win XP HE SP2. Dell 8300 3.0 Ghz .PC takes minutes from startup to desktop. All programs much slower than usual.I regularly use Defrag, Have Microsoft anti spyware, Panda anti virus, Ad Aware Spybot, System Mechanic Pro.etc.Have tried everything!
I have a demension 8400 with windows xp pro media center. It has a 3 ghz processor 160gb hard drive. I have it on a wireless setup. I don't know much about the inside of a computer so I need help. It is extremely slow to open 1/2 hour or so and even more so to get into any program or internet. Yesterday I checked everything I could check and somehow or another I found a screen that had appeared stating errors and saying something about images not being able to open.
My sister's computer is running very slowly, particularly at startup (which seems to take forever). I've got Panda antivirus software running and do reasonably regular spyware scans with AdAware, but am not sure if the problem is just that the computer is old with too little memory / overheating because it's on almost all the time / something else I haven't thought of. To help me determine what's going on, could someone much smarter than myself take a look at this HJT log and see if you see anything of concern?
think it all started 2 days ago. i had installed a game, but it would not start cause i needed some missing dll files. which i inserted. one of the things i did wrong however was that i tried to replace a faultrep.dll file. this was not the file i wanted to change. i read wrong on the error dll messege, but whenever i tried to replace it the old file would swap in, so no harm should have come from that. i also installed a missing direct x file: D3DX929.dll ..... thats the dll changes i have done. anyway the next day startup was weeery slow. i uslay can boot up my pc in 2 minutes, now it takes 5++ minutes, the destop appears in normal time. but the welcome tune is a good 2 minutes late, then programs that now are slow to start up are live messenger and zone alarm pro. also i have other problems. like i cant accses "my computer" by icon or other ways
Im new, so bear with me please. The problem is on my old Sony Viao Model PCG-6H4L XP. I wanted to start fresh and the recovery system for windows gives me only a limited number of dates. I thought that the Viao recovery would do the job.I was wrong. I haven't checked recent forums about problems with this, so I went ahead and broke my laptop. Before the Recovery system starts, my laptop says, with a black background.
I cant seem to get the defragmenter working.I have searched and did some troubleshooting so ill explain. My C: is dirty. CHKDSK runs at bootup every time. When I go to defrag, I get the message: CHKDSK is scheduled to run, please run CHKDSK /f.Here is were it gets complicated. I have run CHKDSK /f and it doesnt do anything. I have tried to disable CHKDSK, nothing. Its not in startup under msconfig, I even tried reediting the registry for a non startup CHKDSK. The problem is basically that CHKDSK doesnt work. Its looping back and telling my computer that it has not run when it has. When it runs, I have some unreadable files. 4 to be exact. I have searched and troubleshot numerous things, I even reformated my C: drive. Ran Anti Virus, all came back negative.
go to start > you click all programs > you select system tools > and click disk defragmemter. Disk defragmenter opens up. You click analyze. It comes up with 'You do not need to defragment this volume' You click report. You find out that the disk it only 3% fragmented. The bar that displays estimated disk usage before disk degramentation is mostly colored red, except for blocks of blue here and there. You look down at the bottom and realize that red stands for 'fragmented files' You say to your self, The report said disk did NOT need defragmenting. The bar clearly shows the disk is fragmented.
Hello folks, We are about to push a policy to remove everyone from the local administrators group on their local PCs. We are also creating a template to allow all users to access certain hives in the registry. Is there a hive or key that could unlock Disk Defragmenter for anyone to access.
When I try to open and run my disk defragmenter, a message comes up with the following: "MMC cannot open the file CWINDOWS/system32/dfrg.msc.This may be because the file does not exist, is not as MMC console, or was created by a later version of MMC. This may also be because you do not have sufficient rights to the files."I really have no idea what this means.
I have been attempting to defragment my hard drive a multitude of times with both command-line and from windows tools. When i analyze the drive, i get the report that i need to defrag the volume, i do so...only to wait for less than 2-5 mins and receive a report stating the fragmentation status of the drive, which was exactly the same amount of fragmentation the analysis reported!
I tried everything I could find to fix it and nothing. There is no error messages just does not respond.Someone said to look in windows for an inf folder, I do not have one.
Recently reinstalled windows on computer. Would like to not have as much on startup as it has. Is it safe to shut off KBD.exe related to the multimedia keys? also Hotkeys command, and Igfxtray? only use F keys incase computer screws up.
The 250GB HDD came with the pc when purchased approx 4 yrs ago. I purchased the 80GB HDD approx 1.5 yrs ago and installed Windows on that drive. I believe that all elements of the OS should be on the 80GB HDD. I would not be suprised if the 250GB hdd is on the way out, i.e. nedds to be replaced.
I've gone to msconfig and deleted some start up files, deleted some programs from add/remove, made folders for favorites. Everything I could think of to decrease startup time. Nothing seems to help. I still have to wait around 10-15 mins before IE starts up. I even installed firefox to see if that would help with start up. Nothing. I did a Diskeeper scan and found that there were alot of low system files (pink). Could this be the reason for a slow start up. Is there anyway that I can help this poor little computer. It really drags at startup.
My programs will almost never open. The computer is too slow and I have to run safe mode each time. I want sound for my computer since i can't have sound on safe mode.
