View 2 RepliesI downloaded the new version of Internet Explorer (version 8) as this was an option when I signed onto the web this afternoon But after downloading this I had trouble getting onto the net. So I restarted the PC. But, it did not restart. Instead I get the following message on a plain black screen when I try to run my computer: Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: <Windows root>system32hal.dll. Please re-install a copy of the above file.

View 1 Replies View Relatedmy laptop stopped working. After dwld some Excel service pack the pc refused to restart. The message is quite ominous: Stop error c0000218 and the hive affected is system root/system32/config/default It's impossible to recover the last working config or start in safe mode or do anything. It keeps looping back to the blue screen with the stop error. The pc does not recognize the hard drive, it does not have a recovery cd.
Built my pc i thought everything was fine but on checking in device manager i have found a problem with the usb root hub. There are 7 entries for the intel family universal host controller that have no problems. Below that there are 7 entries for usb root hub these have yellow exclamation marks and on checking properties it says driver may be corrupted or missing code 39. Have tried to update drivers but could not find any.

Please re-install a copy of the above file.My problem is that I do not have a CD to reinstall anything with. It did not come with my laptop. Instead, I was supposed to create my own and didn't realize this until it was too late. I have a Compaq Presario V6000 w/WIN XP Home Edition and I'm wondering if it's possible to boot up manually via DOS with specific commands.
I have created another link regarding this issue, however this problem is now on my second computer.
http://forums.techguy.org/windows-vi...load-blue.html.I just connected my iPod Nano (3rd Generation) to my second computer to charge up and then it completey shut down and now shows the error:Error loading OS <windows root>system32hal.dll Please reinstall a copy of the above file.I have tried to repair the required, but it wont even read or load my XP Pro installation disk to repair it.This is extremely frustrating, as I am now thinking that my iPod has a virus in it and has transferred it from my laptop through to my other PC~!
I tried to do COMPLETE Windows XP (Home) reinstall and at first it went ok (I think), but while restarting it gave me this error message:<windowsroot>system 32hal.dll
View 3 Replies View RelatedDue to lapse of sense at a particular moment on my part, my DELL Inspiron laptop was not protected when accessing the internet for a download. Windows XP is the operating system. When booting up, error message states that the following file is missing or corrupt: <Windows root>system32hal.dll Please reinstall a copy of the above file. I've tried numerous programs and software packages that "guarantee" results but none have accomplished anything except wasting my time and money.
View 1 Replies View RelatedHP notebook (4 yrs old), running XP. I do not have the recovery disc. I can not get into safe mode as it stops loading in the process of loading or checking drivers. I can get it to the XP splash screen but when it goes to the next screen which should be my log on screen, it is blank. Is there anyway to fix this and replace the file or do I trash it and get a new laptop.

View 5 Replies View RelatedThe root folders of my external drives and My Documents are showing Picture Tasks instead of the Common Files and Folders Tasks. They also show the watermark for images for the background image (when I have this feature on). How can I fix this? There is no Customize tab under Properties for these folders. The root folder for the system drive is fine. I have Windows XP Home SP2.

I wanted to start fresh and the recovery system for windows gives me only a limited number of dates. I thought that the Viao recovery would do the job.I was wrong. I haven't checked recent forums about problems with this, so I went ahead and broke my laptop. Before the Recovery system starts, my laptop says, with a black background.

View 7 Replies View RelatedMy computer had a turn yesterday and kept giving me the blue screen error on start-up, so using my windows disk I managed to run chkdsk. So I can get on now, but certain things won't run, like Media Centre, Firefox has forgotten my settings and also my iriver doesn't get acknowledged when I plug it into a USB port.So I am trying to run System restore to go back a couple of days.I can get into restore, and go through everything up to the point where you click 'next' in order to restore it.I click on next but nothing happens, it just stays there.

My old system hasn't been powered on for about a year. Problem was the onboard video failed replaced it with a video card from another system (riva TNT) and bought some memory system wouldn't boot, determined that the memory was bad Now the system booted but win2K wouldn't work. No problem I have XP now. After multiple error during the xp install I finally got through it.only the computer will only boot in safe mode. Initially thought it was a hardare conflict so I booted in safe mode with networking and systematically cleared all the yellow.
