I downloaded the new version of Internet Explorer (version 8) as this was an option when I signed onto the web this afternoon But after downloading this I had trouble getting onto the net. Please re-install a copy of the above file.
But anyways i'm major computer problems. I have a Windows xp Compaq computer and im getting an error that says <Windows root>system32hal.dll. is missing or corrupt.
Please install a copy of this file.

I just put in an ASUS mobo, and my XP Pro OS just sent me a message that Windows wouldn't come up because a dll was missing or corrupted. <Windows root>System32hal.dll. I'm in the Recovery Console, and I went to Systemroot, but the command <Windows root>System32hal.dll. is invalid. Other than reinstall XP, what can I do to find or get that hal.dll.
When I boot my computer I get a message (Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: (Windows root)system32hal.dll.) Please re-install a copy of the above file. I have tryed a repair with the XP disc but I am not quite sure how to use it as it is all in DOS.

So my sister gets hold of a computer in the house and ruins it, and here is the dilemma I am facing: I turn on the computer and right away i come to this message.... Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: windowssystem32configSYSTEM Attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the Original CD-ROM. Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair. So I enter the cd rom and press 'r' for repair, I choose C:windows, however before it can begin to repair it asks me for an 'Administration Password' which I have no idea of after many attempts. I do not want to have to format the pc since I have some very important files on it. Any help is appreciated.
I am getting the following error and it loops: "file is missing or corrupt windows root system32 hal.dll" When I try and run the windows cd and either wipe or repair the error it tells me that the "the setup did not find hard drive disks" Now I am thinking the hard drive is defective?? Or do I have a virus?
Due to lapse of sense at a particular moment on my part, my DELL Inspiron laptop was not protected when accessing the internet for a download. Windows XP is the operating system. When booting up, error message states that the following file is missing or corrupt: <Windows root>system32hal.dll Please reinstall a copy of the above file. I've tried numerous programs and software packages that "guarantee" results but none have accomplished anything except wasting my time and money.
My computer, a dell dimension 8400 with windows xp home edition, keeps coming up with an error saying:Windows XP could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: WINDOWSSYSTEM32Configsystem.i ran boot utility and scanned the computer and the drives come up fine with the test(except the hard disk which popped up errors on a constant.)
i have windows xp pro installed on my pc along with linux mandrake 10.1 and one day while my dad was surfing the net the sreen turned blue and some type of error message came up and it said to do something if it happend again but i ignored it becuase i thought it wouldnt happen again so i restarted and when it came back on it went to a black sceen and i couldnt do anything but if i let it wait there it would come up with an error saying that windowssystem32config system was missing or corrupt
The system can be restored by using the Startup CD and pressing R for recover, but I do not have any cd. The only one I have it the recover cd, but it is my understanding that if I use the recovery cd that I will erase everything from my computer and I can not do this.I tried to read the other threads about the same problem, but to be honest I do not understand them and I just do not have the startup cd - maybe it is the same as the recovery cd?
I'm running a Dell XPS 600 with Windows XP Professional Media Center Edition. Well, OK, it's not really running.I used System Restore to return my PC to a point about six weeks ago when the system was more stable. The PC rebooted, and now it won't boot any more due to a missing/corrupt CONFIGSYSTEM file.It won't boot from either of my CD drives, either. I've used the boot Setup to alter the boot sequence but that doesn't help, the system just doesnt recognize those drives during boot. For this same reason, I've been unable to access the Recovery Console.
Windows XP could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: WINDOWSSYSTEM32CONFIGSYSTEM This is the error message i have. I have a copy of windows xp pro. i have no backup disk.
I tried to start my computer and I suddenly received the following message:"Windows 2000 could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: WINNT/ SYSTEM32/CONFIG/SYSTEMced startup options for Windows, press F8." I'm not sure how to fix this problem. I have tried to press F8 --but nothing happens. I'm afraid a virus has destroyed the data on my hard drive.
I am havig some system tray icon problems after installing anti-virus and spyware software. Looking for a fix for the disappearing system tray icons at initial start-up. Quick fix log off and on again icons reappear where they should. I am told that this disappearing activity is due to a Windows XP "BUG". What a problem! Any ideas for a secure, lasting fix out there? After the spyware and antivirus software installation, the computer star-up time is now really SLOW too. The software launches seems to be in conflict with each other, or something. Have emachine--T3406, Windows XP Home 2002, Service Pack 2. 1.23 GB RAM.
HP notebook (4 yrs old), running XP. I do not have the recovery disc. I can not get into safe mode as it stops loading in the process of loading or checking drivers. I can get it to the XP splash screen but when it goes to the next screen which should be my log on screen, it is blank. Is there anyway to fix this and replace the file or do I trash it and get a new laptop.
I have been searching for how to fix my son's computer which comes up with windows system32 config system - Windows could not start b/c the following file is missing or corrupt. He has a Dell and everything I've read seems to give warnings about doing recovery with a Dell. There was no OS CD with it.
I am havinga very big problem with my PC. When I try to start it up normally, I get the following message; "Windows could not start because the following fileis missing or corrupt: WINDOWSSYSTEM32CONFIGSYSTEM. You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the original Setup CD-ROM. Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair" When I try this, it opens repair console, but then I have to select OS, and when I do this, it just comes up with the previous error. If I try to reinstall it comes up with a blue screen error and crashes.
The root folders of my external drives and My Documents are showing Picture Tasks instead of the Common Files and Folders Tasks. They also show the watermark for images for the background image (when I have this feature on). How can I fix this? There is no Customize tab under Properties for these folders. The root folder for the system drive is fine. I have Windows XP Home SP2.
