Following a problem with the One Button Checkup, which is fixed every day but keeps occuring, I went to Msconfig and did a clean boot as advised by Logitech. Now every time I turn the computer on, "my documents" show up. I don't dare go to a Restore point...Can you tell me how to get rid of this page?
View 14 RepliesBefore my daughter's Dell 8300 with XP Profesional HD crashed it started with up with WINDOWS XP Propfessional while it loads. I replaced the HD and reinstalled XP Pro with service pack 1 from the original CD supplied by Dell. So far so good. I went through all the updates, downloaded and installed service pack 2 for Pro. Now when XP loads it no longer displays "Professional" It displays as if its XP Home. In other words, Windows XP with out the Professional banner. When I check system info it states XP Professional is installed.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm having a problem with Windows Explorer.Every time I connect a removable drive, the Folders panel displays a duplicate set of "Shared Documents username's Documents, and 2 other entries." It even happens when I plug in my phone to charge through the USB port. Basically, it happens when something is connected in the USB port, card reader, removable drive, ect. Please look at my screen shot and you will understand.I think it has something to do with a Motorola driver I recently uninstalled, but I don't remember which one.

When I did a computer check for information regarding software, I found that many strange software files run automatically at startup. When I checked "msconfig", I only found 24 programs starting at startup which were normal. How do I eliminate these strange files. I don't know which one of these are necessary and I don't know how to eliminate them. They appear as "unknown". One example of a startup file is "zipfldr". There are pages of other ones.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have my Windows 2K and Windows 98 PC running fine. It brings up a startup option and I select the option that I want. My problem is that the software that I am running needs to run from the Windows 98 start menu option number - 5. command prompt. At present when I want to run the software I need to firstly choose the Windows 98 option from the menu and then try to hit F8 really quickly so that I can run the command prompt. Is there any option that I can write in the boot.ini that will force the Windows 98 Boot Partition to show me the startup menu instead of having to hit F8 really quickly.

I have two machines both running XP Pro installed from the same disk and kept completely current by Microsoft. One displays the screen on every bootup and one never displays it. To be clear, I'm not talking about the greeting screen that can be turned on/off in the user account. The screen I mean is the one with the blue background and a simple login box asking for a password. Actually, you don't even need a password. If you click "OK" or press "enter" the screen disappears to be replaced by a desktop. Thanks in advance.

On my second hard drive (E I have a folder called My Documents. I know that the normal My Documents link in explorer is some kind of dynamic link because it points to Document and Settings user My Documents.is it possible to change the path that the explorer My Documents use to point somewehre different than the Docs and Settings path.
I want to remove the shared documents folder from everywhere but I want to keep the my documents folder in my computer.i am using winxp sp2.

when I right click C: and check the disk usuage is shows me 3.52Gb in use. However, when I select all the contents of the C:( including the hidden files ) it show me 2.52Gb.

I tried the Fan in Comcast, it plays the videos, but no sound. I tried a DVD. No sound. I ran the troubleshooter. No help. No music in Windows Media Player either.There are so many devices on this laptop. I do get the sound when windows opens and closes. I have been sitting in front of a blank screen for 3 hours. The monitor displays "no video signal", so I exchanged monitors but the other one stays blank too. The pc appears to be running but will not boot. I have entered Windows CD to restore but it won't even boot that.
