when i boot up xp windows starts, loads my personal settings, displays my background but no icons and no task bar.the only way to access any files is thro a command line in task manager.i can't drag shortcuts onto my desktop, but all my programs seem to be working fine.everything was okay(well within reason),the last thing i did was to transfer some mp3 files onto a sony m2 stick.
When i start my computer all i see is the desktop background. No icons, no task bar. After restarting the computer between 3 and 6 times the icons and taskbar will eventually appear.I've been reading up on the problem for around a month now and tried many different things to solve it. Really dont want to format computer. I dont no too much so please be step by step in any anwsers left.
i have searched everywhere to do this , no site seemed to know how to get rid of it so i am helping the troubled with this problem, well not really a problem but an adjustment..it is a piece of cake. first right click on the desktop, go to arrange icons by ,uncheck lock web items to desktop(bang it's done).
Down on the bottom of my desktop this thing keeps hidding my icons. I click on the little arrow to show hidden icons and they show for a second then they . disappear. I would like to see them.
On my daughters old computer with windowsxp(home edition) which is slowly being updated from net (computer man set up automatically). Well computer slowed updates ready so I installed them then restarted computer for them to be activated now computer screen only shows background no icons, no start, nothing, can't get anything to come up on screen.
it has locked me out from changing it. Initially, I was unable to access my task manager screen until I ran Windows onecare scan. it cleared up the virus but I still cannot get into my regedit (it states registry editing has been blocked by your adminstrator). My background change occurred as a part of this virus....
Everytime I start my computer up, it gets where it loads the background, but none of the icons. It takes a minute or two for it to load the icons. It doesnt even sound like its loading anything during that minute.
i chose to add a web page to the desktop, when i checked to see if it was added ,it hadn,t been and since then all icons on desktop are now highlited. and the background has gone darker, this has caused start up to be very slow.
I have a personal picture on my desktop as the background and the desktop icons all had clear background instead of a background color...then my daughter punched a whole bunch of keys and now the icon backgrounds are grey like my background color!! i forget how to set them back to clear, can anyone tell me how
RE: desktop ikons: when I place my pointer on an ikon, I don't get the description anymore. How can I get them back Also; There is something that starts automatically running @ 8:00A.M.; but have not scheduled anything for that time. How can I find out what's running in the background??
I bought a used computer and monitor for my niece. They work fine, running xp. BUT the icons and fonts on the desktop are incredibly fuzzy. The photo used as the background is clear and crisp. It is only the icons and icon text that are fuzzy. I tried going to properties>appearnce>advanced, but the font is tahoma and 8. Went to properties>appearance>effects and fade effect is checked, also shadows, dragging contect, hide underlined letters. The edge smoothing was unchecked, so I tried standard>no change in fuzziness; tried clear type>no change in fuzziness. What am I missing?
I am using Windows XP Professional and I am unsure of what happened to my desktop. I don't recall installing anything to make it change. But now I can see the background color, before the change the icons were translucent and blended in with the red moon theme. How can I change it back? Plus I have the computer set fot adjust for best appearance.
I am having an Icon in the Task Bar that pops up: "Your Computer Is Infected" and goes to a website: www.necessaryupdates.com, and to www.spyfalcon.com?
My Taskbar including Start, IE,OE,Desktop etc. disappeared. I can get it back temporarily by hitting the Windows button, but that's a pain. I used to get it by simply rolling cursor to the bottom and it would appear, but that quit working.
I have icons that are not loading in my taskbar. When I check msconfig, under startup, everything is checked to be loaded. However, no icons are loaded even though task manager shows the services loaded and running. They seem to come and go at random.
I am working on a machine where the machine boots up fine. I log into XP Pro SP2 and it starts to load but never finishes. I have a wallpaper but icons and no taskbar. The only I can open the task manager and try to start the explorer.exe process, but it never starts. It does the same thing in safe mode. I have cleaned some trojans, spyware and a ton of adaware by slaving the HDD and ran a defrag. I performed a CHKDSK /r using BARTS's PE and it fixed a few errors. I then ran a sfc /scannow. I updated all windows updates. I ran a repair on XP. I checked the startup and found nothing suspious. When I go into the add remove programs it locks up the PC.
I Can Only Get To Task Manager On My Desktop. Everything Else Is Gone. I Can Get To Some Of My Programs Through Task Manager. I Cannot Get To Accessories Or System Restore. I Cannot Run In Safe Mode Either. A Black Screen Comes Up And Different File Names With Window 32 In It Come Up-then It Freezes. I Cannot Remember What I Was Doing Right Before This Happened. I Think I Ran Aol Computer Checkup But Not Sure. Aol Was Not Help Since I Can Get To Aol Throught Task Manager.
The Start Menu, icons, taskbar, dont Appear Only The Desktop Background Image Appears..But When I Restart The Computer Everything Appears Normal. So My Computer Will Only Show Everything If I Restart After I 1st Boot It Up..So Everyday I Have To Boot My Computer Up Twice To Make It Work..Also Drives Keep Trying To Install Themselves When They Are Already Installed.
I currently ran a disccleanup and deleted all the temp files and etc. i rebooted and none of my icons appeared, taskbar was gone as well as start menu. All that was left was my background. I tried CTR+ALT+DELETE to run programs..but ieexplore, explorer, or anything else would not run. I am currently running in safe mode and everything is fine. wats the deal. i tried also a system restore but that didnt work either.
I have no icons or taskbar at start up merely the wallpaper and the mouse pointer. I can get to safe mode but appear not to be able to restore even with many restore points. I would prefer not to have to re-install XP - can this be fixed if so how?
My son has a Dell dimension 9100 The taskbar/start and all the desktop icons disappear and then reappear every 10-4 seconds All programs can still be accessed through start if you r quick enough!! otherwise throught the task manager. The system will not start in safe mode, only get a blue screen in safe mode, asdvising to run CHKDSK, which we have. Is the hard drive on its way out?? or does this sound repairable?
I get an error message saying that An exception occurred while trying to run " "C:WINDOWSsystem32mfyuv.dll" DllGetVersion", only the .dll file is a different one each time I reboot the system. And I can't find any of the .dll files online at all. Not only that, but when the computer is starting up internet explorer is using up all of the memory, even though I can't see anything on screen. This slows everything down and I have to turn it off using the task manager to give enough memory to the System Idle Process.
recently I loaded up my computer, logged inunder my user profile (I'm running Windows XP SP2), Everything looked normal until the system completed loading and my wallpaper icons vanished (Wallpaper stays), My start button & Task manager bar vanished as well(including the clock).I logged out of my profile, and was able to use the profile I had set up for my mom for about a day... but then her profile did the same thing. I tried my daughter's profile and everything is gone. When I looked in my listing of what applications are running, I've noticed that my explorer.exe is gone.
I can't seem to get any desktop icons or taskbar to show when i log in to xp. It happens for all users. I also can't use ctrl-alt-del to get to task administrator (it has been disabled for some reason-was never a prob before so I didn't fix it...) All this happened the next startup after doing a full system scan with norton and a spybot check (the spybot downloaded a few new updates too).
I have a New Dell E520. Have use it for 4 days, then error shutdowns started.(Having to use laptop again.) Used system restore, and now No start menu, task bar or desktop icons.Key board hardly works on power up until the welcome screen, so safe mode start is not possible Can run certain program using task manager, but none that might help to solve problem.
The start menu, task bar and icons are all missing. The only way i can open anything is to hit ctrl alt del and open the task manager. Where did everything go?
