I have a personal picture on my desktop as the background and the desktop icons all had clear background instead of a background color...then my daughter punched a whole bunch of keys and now the icon backgrounds are grey like my background color!! i forget how to set them back to clear, can anyone tell me how

I have just finished building a new PC to replace (previously reported) her indoors' bust computer.I have forgotten how to produce a little rectangular coloured background behind the captions of the icons of the desktop. It's somewhere, and you can change the colour but I'm b*****ed if I can find it.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI bought a used computer and monitor for my niece. They work fine, running xp. BUT the icons and fonts on the desktop are incredibly fuzzy. The photo used as the background is clear and crisp. It is only the icons and icon text that are fuzzy. I tried going to properties>appearnce>advanced, but the font is tahoma and 8. Went to properties>appearance>effects and fade effect is checked, also shadows, dragging contect, hide underlined letters. The edge smoothing was unchecked, so I tried standard>no change in fuzziness; tried clear type>no change in fuzziness.What am I missing?

But now I can see the background color, before the change the icons were translucent and blended in with the red moon theme. How can I change it back? Now, after the cleaning activity as explained by techguys, everything seems going well. All programs do start without problems (through the start-menu or the quick-start taskbar), but there is a small drawback: my desktop screen shows only my wallpaper, there are no icons. The right-mouse click on the desktop also doesn't work (although the desktopsettings are accessible through the control panel). When you power up the system, the Windows XP logo screen comes up and then the desktop background comes up but it stops there. You never get any desktop icons or taskbar so there is no way to navigate. If anyone has any suggestions on how to debug this it would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have already tried using the right click on the desktop and going into the properties that way. It won't even let me select any of the options for the wallpaper. And I used to be able to go to my photo files and just pick one, right click on it and select the "set as desktop background" option. But now it won't let me change it at all.

View 11 Replies View RelatedI can change the desktop wallpaper background to a personal pic, by using the browse button. no problem, but it won't keep the pic in the list of available backgrounds. it will keep the background i choose until i want to change it, but as soon as i switch, that pic disappears and if i want to change back, i have to use the browse button all over again. running xp home not a major problem, but annoying.if there is a quick fix i can't find it.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI remember few days ago.. my kaspersky identified some system file as a trojan.. so it probably a misunderstanding when i was installing system mechanic. it got deleted.. and i have this automatic option to delete them after they are put in backup in kaspersky.
now whenever i open my pc, my desktop and taskbar and start menu,etc goes away after a few seconds! Now i rely on the task manager..
Several unwanted desktop icons appeared recently (I think they come via Search2000 when IE is used). They won't right-click for deletion, nor will they allow themselves to be drop-dragged to the recycle bin. They don't appear in the desktop icon list when using the desktop cleanup feature.
