View 1 Replies View RelatedI bought a used computer and monitor for my niece. They work fine, running xp. BUT the icons and fonts on the desktop are incredibly fuzzy. The photo used as the background is clear and crisp. It is only the icons and icon text that are fuzzy. I tried going to properties>appearnce>advanced, but the font is tahoma and 8. Went to properties>appearance>effects and fade effect is checked, also shadows, dragging contect, hide underlined letters. The edge smoothing was unchecked, so I tried standard>no change in fuzziness; tried clear type>no change in fuzziness.What am I missing?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have some sort of program running on the background of my computer that seems to be disturbing any kind of task I try to accomplish on my cpu. It seems to be running every 30 seconds or so for a brief moment and then repeats over and over again. Whenever I try to type, this program or virus clicks off the current window, in which I have to reposition my cursor again back to where it was originally. Even as I type now, I am having to click back onto this editor every 6 or 7 words. I have checked my task manager and cannot find any processes that are running since the only happens and causes a disruption for a brief second. This is very odd and seems to make any task that much more aggravating.

Both worked without a hitch, but now I found 2 programs running in the background that are eating up my cpu speed. The first was utorrent which I uninstalled thru Add Remove Prog. The other is in the startup folder and will not let me turn it off or uninstal(documents&settings/user/applicationdata/microsoft/dtsc/22751). After reading several other posts on things to do before posting, I cleared the temp folders and ran hijackthis. The log is attached. What is this file and should I remove it, and if so how?

But now I can see the background color, before the change the icons were translucent and blended in with the red moon theme. How can I change it back? View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm using Windows XP Professional, an Intel P4 with 1.0GB Ram, nVidia GeForce FX5700 graphics card. Microsoft's Windows Defender Beta 2, Nod 32 Antivirus program and eTrust's Pest Patrol are running on my PC. I also have Windows Firewall running in the background. On starting the PC and before the Microsoft XP's welcome splash screen, I get a blank window. Not always, but 99% of the time. The only way I can close this window, is to click the OK button that appears on the screen. Clicking on the red X button doesn't help close it either. Once the window closes, the welcome screen appears and then the desktop with my icons, folders, shortcuts etc. appear and all is well with the PC. Most of the time the window is blank except for the OK button in the middle. On some occasions, a single file path(different each time I start the PC - examples listed below) can be seen on the dark blue band on top of the window and occasionally, inside the window:

when I click on any windows icon in "Control pannel" I get the following message "windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. I corrected the Bios clock which was also wrong but this did not change the date in windows.Programs seem to run OK but some are complaning about the wrong date!

Thisis true for the wired network connection as well. I cannot connect till these icons appear in the system tray.When I first received the computer, these icons were one of the 1st functions that loaded.

I think i installed forceware 7.7 drivers before i played the gaem so i'm not sure if that had anything to do with it. BUt anyways, the desktop icons changed to the 'default' icons, the plain ones that came with windows.

Where on Windows 2000 would I find what type of RAM to buy or would I be better off pulling a stick out of the computer and taking it to the store with me? I have 196 megs of RAM right now and I can't run my virus and spyware without slowing to a standstill. I read somewhere that now a days you need almost a gig of RAM. Is that true? Then Dreamweaver told me I ought to check to see if IIS (Internet Information Server) was installed, so I did (it wasn't - no C:/Inetpub). Then, again following directions, I went to Control Panel/ Add or Remove Programs/ Add or Remove Window Components to install IIS.
Not an option.So I went to www.microsoft.com/downloads and could find all sorts of ancillary helpers to IIS (Internet Information Services (IIS) 6.0 Resource Kit Tools, Internet Information Services (IIS) 6.0 Manager for Windows XP, Internet Information Services (IIS) Lockdown Tool 2.1) but noplace from which I could just download IIS 6.0.

My Dell laptop has been periodically going into this phase where the mouse pointer will fill w/ a moving band of colors. It's as though a rainbow is flowing through it. When in this phase, it does this about once every 5 seconds. So, to be clear, it stays in its normal arrow shape, but fills w/ moving color bands rather than the standard white.
