Down on the bottom of my desktop this thing keeps hidding my icons. I click on the little arrow to show hidden icons and they show for a second then they . disappear. I would like to see them.
View 2 RepliesEver since I installed the Panda Titanium Antivirus 2006, not all startup icons appear in the tray. And this includes the Safely Remove Hardware icon. To make this Safe Removal application available, is it possible to somehow disable its startup and then later only open it manually when nessessary (maybe from the Progams/Accesories folder)?
View 12 Replies View RelatedRnning win xp pro on a dell laptop. with desktop icon showing the wallpaper image is centered. when i right click on desktop and uncheck "show desktop icons" the desktop image (wallpaper) grows slightly, and moves towards the lowerleft hand side of screen. any thoughts on how to remedy this? i am sure the image used to be centered with icons hidden.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI very cleverly purchased one of those Registry Cleaners that turned out to be not only a problem in its own right, but whose main purpose was to sell you additional services. Anyway: I used it a few times and noticed that the ''hidden icons'' on the taskbar were not only hidden but vanished. Since this happened immediately after the cleaner ran, ending with an ad (remember that I paid for this thing), I accessed its restore panel and tried to do that for the last run. Pushed the restore, back came my hidden icons, and an ad. Serveral days earlier I had noticed that my screen savers no longer ran. At that time I had checked the display panel and found that the the time to wait before the screen saver would work was now greyed out. Did not associate this with the cleaner until the icon thing, and had spent much time chasing for a cause and cure. So, back to the cleaner, went to restore, clicked an earlier date, and up came the bloody ad. No way could I do another restore without buying their additional service -a Tech service for x-number of dollars a year. This wonderful cleaner's name, by the way, is FREE Registry Fix -free for first six items checked, then $30.00 for the full bit. Guess who was dumb enough to pay for it. After all that: How do I get my bloody screen saver display back??????
For those of you who helped me with my green hair problem, thanks again. I finally had to actual learned all about color calibration myself -there apparently aren't any professionals in Reno, but I did learn enough to have the best looking color on a tv/monitor in Nevada. Pictures print out quite well.
I changed language settings on my pc to korean and then back to english, now i have 2 icons for every program i open on my taskbar, that is there seems to be 2 toolbars both containing every program i open. Anyone know a way to remove one of these toolbars?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am working on a machine where the machine boots up fine. I log into XP Pro SP2 and it starts to load but never finishes. I have a wallpaper but icons and no taskbar. The only I can open the task manager and try to start the explorer.exe process, but it never starts. It does the same thing in safe mode. I have cleaned some trojans, spyware and a ton of adaware by slaving the HDD and ran a defrag. I performed a CHKDSK /r using BARTS's PE and it fixed a few errors. I then ran a sfc /scannow. I updated all windows updates. I ran a repair on XP. I checked the startup and found nothing suspious. When I go into the add remove programs it locks up the PC.

All that was left was my background. I tried CTR+ALT+DELETE to run programs..but ieexplore, explorer, or anything else would not run. I am currently running in safe mode and everything is fine. wats the deal. i tried also a system restore but that didnt work either.

The system will not start in safe mode, only get a blue screen in safe mode, asdvising to run CHKDSK, which we have. Is the hard drive on its way out?? or does this sound repairable?

And I can't find any of the .dll files online at all. Not only that, but when the computer is starting up internet explorer is using up all of the memory, even though I can't see anything on screen. This slows everything down and I have to turn it off using the task manager to give enough memory to the System Idle Process.
View 14 Replies View Relatedrecently I loaded up my computer, logged inunder my user profile (I'm running Windows XP SP2), Everything looked normal until the system completed loading and my wallpaper icons vanished (Wallpaper stays), My start button & Task manager bar vanished as well(including the clock).I logged out of my profile, and was able to use the profile I had set up for my mom for about a day... but then her profile did the same thing. I tried my daughter's profile and everything is gone.When I looked in my listing of what applications are running, I've noticed that my explorer.exe is gone.
I can't seem to get any desktop icons or taskbar to show when i log in to xp. It happens for all users. I also can't use ctrl-alt-del to get to task administrator (it has been disabled for some reason-was never a prob before so I didn't fix it...) All this happened the next startup after doing a full system scan with norton and a spybot check (the spybot downloaded a few new updates too).

All are running Win XP.Seems that they turned on their computers today or yesterday and all their icons are missing.The only thing that they are able to get to is the task manager, nothing else.I haven't heard of any virus'/ trojan's/ or malware resently that causes this and reading ton's of descriptions takes too long.
I run a fairly old but trusty Dell desktop machine with Windows XP (Service Pack 3). It's been absolutely fine since I've had it and I've updated the ram some time ago. Then last night for absolutely no apparent reason, when I turned it on and it booted up it immediately looked 'different'. The task bar had changed colour and several of the icons were missing. The text was also in a slightly different font. I then got an error message which reads: 'Exception EOleSysError in module Skype.exe at 00095A71. The RPC server is unavailable.'

Nothing seems to work. I have a 64 bit computer but my XP home is a 32 bit. I tried to turn off all firewalls and Norton and nothing seems to work. It is not attached to the internet, and any documents not created on the computer are scanned on a different computer first for viruses, so HOPEFULLY that means this is not a virus. In addition, the same thing happened last year, and I did a complete re-install exactly a year ago to the day. We have WordPerfect Office 12, Lotus Organizer, and Microsoft Office XP Standard loaded. This is an IBM NetVista 6350 computer.
Logging on brings me to the screen that shows my wallpaper and the cursor. However, there are no icons, no start button, and no task bar. Right clicking does not produce anything. Control-Alt-Delete to bring up the task manager shows that explorer. exe has not loaded.I have tried starting in Safe Mode and logged in under the Administrator Account. That brings up a black screen with Safe Mode noted in the corners, but no other information, so it appears to be a problem that is not prejudiced to a certain user login.

I can run task manager to get to all apps OK, but this is not very useful.I tried running from a previous known good state, but nothing changed. I also tried starting up in safe mode, but only get a black screen.
