Ever since I installed the Panda Titanium Antivirus 2006, not all startup icons appear in the tray. And this includes the Safely Remove Hardware icon. To make this Safe Removal application available, is it possible to somehow disable its startup and then later only open it manually when nessessary (maybe from the Progams/Accesories folder)?
Down on the bottom of my desktop this thing keeps hidding my icons. I click on the little arrow to show hidden icons and they show for a second then they . disappear. I would like to see them.
Rnning win xp pro on a dell laptop. with desktop icon showing the wallpaper image is centered. when i right click on desktop and uncheck "show desktop icons" the desktop image (wallpaper) grows slightly, and moves towards the lowerleft hand side of screen. any thoughts on how to remedy this? i am sure the image used to be centered with icons hidden.
I very cleverly purchased one of those Registry Cleaners that turned out to be not only a problem in its own right, but whose main purpose was to sell you additional services. Anyway: I used it a few times and noticed that the ''hidden icons'' on the taskbar were not only hidden but vanished. Since this happened immediately after the cleaner ran, ending with an ad (remember that I paid for this thing), I accessed its restore panel and tried to do that for the last run. Pushed the restore, back came my hidden icons, and an ad. Serveral days earlier I had noticed that my screen savers no longer ran. At that time I had checked the display panel and found that the the time to wait before the screen saver would work was now greyed out. Did not associate this with the cleaner until the icon thing, and had spent much time chasing for a cause and cure. So, back to the cleaner, went to restore, clicked an earlier date, and up came the bloody ad. No way could I do another restore without buying their additional service -a Tech service for x-number of dollars a year. This wonderful cleaner's name, by the way, is FREE Registry Fix -free for first six items checked, then $30.00 for the full bit. Guess who was dumb enough to pay for it. After all that: How do I get my bloody screen saver display back??????
For those of you who helped me with my green hair problem, thanks again. I finally had to actual learned all about color calibration myself -there apparently aren't any professionals in Reno, but I did learn enough to have the best looking color on a tv/monitor in Nevada. Pictures print out quite well.
How do you remove a hidden "StartUp program", like the one shown below? I need to remove it from my system. WinPatrol doesn't even detect it, so I can't remove that hidden program/file with WinPatrol. Is there a program that is made to detect hidden files like this (see below): I believe the program is actually part of the .NET Framework 2.0 (Service pack 1), which was installed on my computer, yesterday. I want to remove it & all of it's components if one of it's components is the exact same file I'm having trouble finding & removing from my list of StartUp programs. Is there a safe program that can detect & remove .NET Frameworks & other "hard to remove" files?
On an initial boot up, I loose the show hidden icon arrow and all the icons in the system tray, the only way to get them back is to log off then log back on again,
i had to reformat my computer and when i was reinstalling my programs suddenly my hidden files where not hidden anymore if i clicked properties it said hidden but they just appear translucent.
I've just reloaded my computer, running really well now!But another stick of RAM in it, which made it a lot more usable! I want to try and get rid of my startup icons on the start bar.It really slows it down on startup.I've got System Mechanic, which can manage startup icons, but it's hard to identify,
How to identify the different icons, when using a program which shuts them down on startup?
i started working on my friend's grandmother's computer and ive cleaned up all of her junk but , there's 2 administrator accounts, but they both come up in the welcome screen and i dont want one of them to because itll confuse her. somehow one has been unhidden so how can i make one hidden from this list so that it can always be safe and clean?
Yesterday I cleaned a computer using (cleanup.exe)I also uninstalled McAfee and installed Avast! Now all of the sudden when I boot up all of the icons are highlighted and my desktop wallpaper is cut in half, also the icons don't work when you click them
After running Ad-aware, a trojan file was detected that couldn't be quarantined, cleaned or deleted. Husband found a way to get it deleted, but there was a warning saying that it was associated with another file. Deleted anyway.
Ran McAfee VirusScan and deleted unwanted programs it detected. After that, the mouse wouldn't work, so shut computer down by holding button in until shutdown (only way it could be shut down).
Start up went normal until the desktop background came up. Message stating "C: couldn't be found, check address again(???)" popped up. I clicked OK then it just sat there. I shut it off again.
Start up went normal again up through desktop background. No message this time. Mouse seems to work, but no icons or start up blue bar.
The only thing we can think of is the deleted file was associated with our desktop icons.
When I start up Windows all I see is the background. Just my wallpaper, with no start bar, no taskbar, no desktop icons, etc. BUT, oddly enough, when I check running processes in Task Manager, explorer.exe IS running. The only way that I can get it to "appear" or run correctly is if I end that task, and then run a new explorer.exe. Also, when this happens, my computer doesn't seem to have completely loaded all drivers, such as sound. I have not installed any odd programs lately, and I have run a bunch of spyware checks as well.
I was recently turning my computer on and I got an error message that says "Windows Explorer encountered a problerm and needs to close." I shut the computer off and the message keeps coming on and I have no icons or startup menu bar just the wallpaper. I did a quick restore and still nothing, I still get the same error message and the same results.I checked the the problem on the error message; APP Name: Explorer.exe 6.02900.2180 Deskbar.dll In order for me to get on line or get my files is thru the Task Manager. I have done everything ran a virus scan, spybot, adware and everytime I turn on the computer on I get the same error message. I am stairring at a wallpaper with no icons or startup bar.
Can anyone help? I ran Spybot and deleted all identified problems. Now when I reboot, and anytime I startup, I get to blank wallpaper with nothing else. I can run task manager to get to all apps OK, but this is not very useful.I tried running from a previous known good state, but nothing changed. I also tried starting up in safe mode, but only get a black screen.
When I boot into windows XP, I login correctly but then nothing shows up. No start menu or any desktop icons. When I go to task manager, I don't see explorer .exe as a process running I know this has something to do with desktop
My control panel has changed from a page full of icons to a long dropdown strip of small icons with there lables. There is no obivous way in to alter anything.
i have searched everywhere to do this , no site seemed to know how to get rid of it so i am helping the troubled with this problem, well not really a problem but an adjustment..it is a piece of cake. first right click on the desktop, go to arrange icons by ,uncheck lock web items to desktop(bang it's done).
I started my computer today and all of the icons pointing to Microsoft Office files, Adobe Acrobat files, and similar files have been replaced by generic windows icons (white icon with little window in the middle) they are no longer program specific icons.Yes, I have tried TweakUI to rebuild the icons and it did nothing, I have tried increasing then decreasing the size of the icons to attempt to force windows to replace them with the correct icons and that has not worked either. I have also tried to use system restore and that did not help either. This is really making me angry and I don't understand why it happened I have searched everywhere for a solution and found nothing.
After a malware infection (Inet2 and SpySherriff - which took over my desktop) I cleaned up some files, directories and registry-entries. Now, after the cleaning activity as explained by techguys, everything seems going well. All programs do start without problems (through the start-menu or the quick-start taskbar), but there is a small drawback: my desktop screen shows only my wallpaper, there are no icons. The right-mouse click on the desktop also doesn't work (although the desktopsettings are accessible through the control panel). I use WinXP pro. what is wrong and how do I get the icons back on the screen?
I hid some files in the start menu so that my dads boss couldnt see them and get upset. I right-clicked, selected properties, and then checked the "hidden" button. Now I cannot see those programs in the start>programs menu, even if I go to tools>folder options>show hidden files and folders. Does anyone know how to make these start menu programs visible again?
Upon hitting a sequence of keyboard keys in error, my tool bar at the bottom of the screen has disappeared. The space for it remains, but I cannot find the correct path (or set of keys) to bring back the tool bar at the bottom of my screen. Can someone offer the path or keys I should use to get the hidden toolbar to reappear?
I cannot access my hidden files and folders even though i went folder options and gave show hidden files and folders.i cant see the files and folders. give me a way to access my files and folders really i need it.
XP with SP2. Start> All programs. Almost all of the program icons are now generic icons. Can I get the program icons back? Also, some of my desktop icons have become generic.
I just upgraded from 2k to XP. On 2K i could have all my desktop icons and icons for programs i use down on the task bar above open applications. Im sure theres a way to do this on XP so i dont have to go to my desktop or the start menu every time to open a new program.
I am using Windows XP, Sv. Pk.2. on a 3 year old Dell desktop. I recently had to do a complete uninstall and reinstall. I backed up everything on an Iomega external hard drive using Acronis True Image software. Everything worked fine and I have all my files back, except for my email address books (7 Of them) and my saved email folders (about 20 of them). I use Thunderbird for my email. The email data are all in my hard drive but are in hidden files. I can locate them but cannot figure out how to open them and read them - and neither can I import them. Here is an example for just one file: abook.mab C:Documents and SettingsWilliamApplication DataThunderbirdProfiles|zvcjz11s.default All files are "Read" files and this is the message I get when I click on "Read" : Adobe Reader could not open 'abook.mab'
I have both a DVD COMBO and a CDRom on my computer. The dvd combo shows up on MY computer list but there is no sign of the CD ROM.The properties say it is working correctly and is enabled. Not on device manager either. It does work though If I call it up on run an type in the label it had (G): how to put it back on the MY COMPUTER list?It used to be there
