Oct 22, 2009my computers mouse frooze up and then i noticed the keyboard as well, and when i went to go in on safemode to scan for viruses it only came up with a tracking cookie.. now the computer is still freezing up and i reformatted the computer and after it was done it frooze as soon as the windows restarted...any ideas on what is going on?

Dec 3, 2006Don,t know if I'm going about this the right way but here goes;When my young 3 year old is playing his games the cursor (which is change to a large arrow etc.) freezes and cannot be unfrozen. Ctrl, alt del works but I can usually only turn off at the mains and reboot and everything works fine again untill the next incident.

Dec 1, 2005Trying to go into msconfig and it is acting strange. I click start, run, msconfig, ok. The msconfig screen opens but as soon as I move my mouse the entire box just leaves the screen. Regedit is doing the same thing. Cannot find any information on this in the Microsoft Knowledge Base.

Sep 3, 2007All of a sudden my mouse and cursor seem to be working against each other. When I use mouse to point cursor at something the cursor remains in place. I have to keep moving mouse up and down and around in circles until cursor finally locks on and I can then point it to where I want to go. Needless to say this is really frustrating.

Feb 7, 2008I got a new graphics card today. So I went to Add/Remove programs, and removed the Nvidia driver. I rebooted the PC as requested. After rebooting PC (keeping the same graphics card in) the black Windows logo screen took much longer than usual. Then when it finished so that I could click on my profile, I couldn't, the mouse nor the keyboard are functioning. I tried a different mouse and keyboard. I unplugged my computer and restarted, I tried in safe mode and the same thing. The keyboard works at the BIOS screen because I can get into the BIOS and select safemode as needed.

Dec 1, 2009Trying to fix a relatives Dell Dimension 5100 c2005. Can only get to the welcome screen then keyboard and mouse wont work; both are usb of course as this Dell has no PS2 ports. I have loaded another copy of xp home and can boot into it ok and see the other installation ok too. From within this second copy of xp have run chkdsk and also have run chkdsk from (2nd XP Home CD) recovery consul.

Jul 21, 2008My computer wasn't recognizing my CD-RW drive, so I opened up 'regedit' to delete the upper and lower filters from the drive. Well, I deleted the wrong filters. The next time Windows loaded up, it failed to recognize the mouse and the keyboard (!!!). So I basically have a paralyzed computer - I can't do anything with it. I know that reinstalling Windows would solve the problem, but I'm looking for a way to take care of this without losing all of my files. I know it's possible .

Oct 8, 2006when I try to start puter first the mouse dont work any more. I had a Logitech MX 510. IT lights up but wont work. Installed a Radio shack mouse worked for a little it. Then it shuts down too. I try to start computer and tap on F8 key or DEL key sometimes it works an sometimes not if it works I am good for a little bit. 15min to 30 min then lock up. If i get into safe mode its ok until about the same 15min to 30 min. If F8 and DEL keys dont work It starts the process and then gets to floppy disk and fails. It say Floppy Disk Fail (40). I have checked and the fans are working and thats not a problem Hard drives work and 1.5 GB ram and thats ok too. So stumped and wondering if I can fix it or not.

Dec 7, 2004Through out the day, I have my computer on. Many times... whether I am using the computer at that moment, or if I leave and come back later... my screen will be frozen. The mouse moves, but nothing on the screen can be clicked. Also, control alt delete works as well, so I have found that if I go into the applications tab and open a new task and open/refresh "explorer" everything will start working again.

Jul 30, 2007Hello, I am new to this website, and need some serious help. I have a Gateway GT 5028 that is about a year a half old. I came home today to turn it on, and the only thing that happens is the fans both work, the cd drive lights come on, the power button light comes on, and the orange cpu light comes on. After a few seconds the cd lights flash again, and they repeat this process. The screen, keyboard, and mouse do not work. The monitor stays black the whole time. It has windows xp on it. I got it at Best buy, but it is out of warranty. It seems as if the computer continually restarts?

Jul 8, 2007the problem is, my mouse and keyboard are not working in that OS, so i cant do a damn thing, so luckily i have another OS installed on the second partition (which is where im writing from right now) and i was thinking, maybe i can export that key, as a reg-file and then just click on it, fixing the whole issue. Bad thinking, because i have nothing to click it with, no mouse, no keyboard! And its saved, right there on the desktop!!!So to my question, is there any way to add that key to the other OS registry from this OS, or maybe is there a way to activate the export-file at startup or something? maybe with DOS?

Sorry for the inconvenience. in the middle of my screen It appears on boot and remains there .If I click close ,the desktop icons disappear and reappear and the message also reappears several seconds later,In those few seconds things seem to operate normally but after it appears, things on the screen just blink once when I click on them and nothing else happens. If I click something , and then click close on the message, it clears the desktop and reappears the previous click is then executed and the lockup is back .I can do things one at a time by repeating this closing process and the application on the screen does not close but reappears also

Mar 10, 2005Installed Norton Internet Security 2005 and now, whenever I try and do a system restore it says "System restore encountered a problem and has to close". It does this all the time, even in safe mode. Symantec has mentioned that I should turn off NIS2005 and try system restore. If it then works it is a Microsoft issue.
