Install The Trial Version And The Trial Ends?

Nov 28, 2005

I just got the trial version of XP x64. I have a 64-bit processor and TuneUp utilities recommends I upgrade to x64. I have a couple of concerns, though. First, just because I have a 64-bit processor does not necessarily mean I have 64-bit drivers and 64-bit compatible programs, does it? Second, if I install the trial version and the trial ends; what then? Will I just go back to XP Pro or will I have sold my soul and be forced to purchase the full version?

Winlogon.exe Error ID 1002 / Trial Version Of HDDLife Pro

Aug 13, 2006

I've worked for 2 days on this problem off and on and found no working solution yet. To make it short and sweet, if I right-click on any folders or on the hard drive icons in My Computer explorer.exe freezes. I have a program called HDDLife Pro (trial version) that says my hard disks are at 53% and 85%. The program measures the current tempurature and how much life is left on your hard disks. There are no tale-tell signs of a failing disk either.

Update Tries To Update Trial Version Of Office

Aug 28, 2006

Windows Update keeps trying to update Office 2003.I have a trial version of Office 2003 that came with my computer.I do not want it at this time, but I may want it at some point in the future.I don't know if it can be hidden from the Windows update but if not, I am not sure how to fully get rid of it.
It has never been "installed."Windows update fails every time, of course, because it isn't now nor has it ever been installed. The biggest problem is that it keeps trying to apply the same updates over and over and over. It slows down the shutdown as it repeats the attempt(s) 3 times before each shutdown and also it keeps downloading the same and or other Windows Updates for Office 2003

I know that I can get them online but I need to try them before I actually use them so that I can be sure of the results. I have read lot's of reviews and found out that currently, the best registry cleaner on the market is Digeus Registry Cleaner.

X64 Edition Trial Extension?

Jul 12, 2006

I have had Windows XP 64 bit trial edition for some time now, and yes long enough to expire the 120 day trial of use. I have enjoyed the much faster OS, and have grown to have many files, of many variety and size, and DO NOT WANT TO LOSE EVERYTHING by reinstalling windows.I was wondering if anybody, had any suggestions as to how I could extend the trial or reuse the trial while retaining all of my precious information? Are there any loop holes? Should I get a free linux distribution? Should I buy some whiskey and a gun? What would you reccommend? (PS- Currently I can only have my computer on for 2 hours, after 1 hour of usage, a window pops up saying 'your windows has expired, you have 16 days left to restore access to this installation of Windows, your computer will restart in 1 hour. In addition I really dont want to shell out money if possible in anyway!)

The OS uninstalls itself and I have to wait to get a legit copy before I can continue on with the work I have on my HDD. The uninstall program formats the entire drive, leaving me with NOTHING left.

Explorer Ends On Startup

Apr 8, 2006

I'm running XP pro with SP2.It's a fairly new computer which hadn't been connected to the internet since yesterday. So once it was on the internet i just let it freely download updates from Windows Update. When I tried to open something on my desktop i got a Blue Screen of Death. After restarting i sent the error report and it actually came up with a solution (shocker) that it was my firewall program, Outpost Firewall. After installing the update that it told me to everything went downhill from there. Everytime I restart the computer and log on i get the error report and when i click anything, explorer ends and doesnt restart (unless i use task manager to restart it). The only way around this is for me to just move the error report box out of the way, but now i cant use windows explorer at all.

Anytime i try to open, say, My Documents from the start menu, the taskbar will freeze for a few minutes. Anytime i try to use the Open function from any other program, that program will just shutdown with no warning whatsoever. I've only been able to open this internet explorer window because i just happen to know what the string is to open it in task manager.Any help with this problem would be greatly appreciated. I can paste the error report if you wish. Just ask for it, but i can tell you that there are 60 Module errors by looking at it.When i click the start menu and right click anything, the Open and Explore options all appear in lower case, which isn't mean to happen if i remember correctly

Startup Fails And Ends In BSOD

Jul 14, 2008

XP fails to start in any mode. XP has been reloaded from an image with no change in situation. (I was reimaging the machines anyway.) I have not yet had a successful boot since reimaging, and hence XP (mini)setup has not completed (the image was prepared using sysprep to allow it to be rolled out to multiple machines. These machines are connected to an 2003 AD Domain). Currently I'm running memtest86+ from Knoppix. Knoppix booted with only one error about not passing in proper display information. (Perhaps the graphics card is going?). The last file loaded in a safe mode bootup is mup.sys, which leads me further to believe that it's a hardware problem (and that's backed up by Google).

I've opened it up, cleaned it out with a little (make that a lot) of compressed air. Boy, was it dusty. I forgot to mention, this computer is at a high school, if you want an idea of what the users are like . It's a magnet/gifted/selective enrollment (for you Chicago people) high school though. Any suggestions on things to try? I didn't see anything obviously wrong on the motherboard: that is, no exploded capicitors, disconnected cables, missing RAM, etc. I'm running memtest now, however we won't know the results of that until tomorrow. I'm going to swap out the HD with a different one and we'll see if that's any better.
