Install The Trial Version And The Trial Ends?

Nov 28, 2005

I just got the trial version of XP x64. I have a 64-bit processor and TuneUp utilities recommends I upgrade to x64. I have a couple of concerns, though. First, just because I have a 64-bit processor does not necessarily mean I have 64-bit drivers and 64-bit compatible programs, does it? Second, if I install the trial version and the trial ends; what then? Will I just go back to XP Pro or will I have sold my soul and be forced to purchase the full version?

Trying To Bypass Windows Log On Screen

Feb 1, 2009

While trying to sort out a fairly unimportant problem I have almost wrecked my operating system.

The system:- Windows XP professional with all updates until Friday (now Sunday)
Computer:- Dont know the make, I think it might be Elite with 1.7 dual core processor, 2 Gb ram 300 Gb HD and Nvdia Graphics card, also installed, a TV card, wireles card and A DVD/CD drive.

The problem:- I was trying to bypass the Windows log on screen and sought help in this forum. The advice I was given seemed reasonable so I did it

What happened:- After making the changes the computer booted up properly but when Windows started I got a lot of splash screens and pop-ups as if it were a new installation and to my horror I could not access any of my data.

What I did:- I tried to use system restore but found that all the points I tried could not be restored.I tried shutting down Zonealarm (another post refers to this) which did not help,so I tried to uninstall Zone alarm but could not as apparently a dll has gone missing. So I deleted everything I could find related to Zone alarm and tried system restore again.Disaster.

The log on screen had reappeared and I thought I had solved the problem. Clicked on OK and the screen with only the mouse pointer appeared and stayed there for about 15 minutes, then the desk top picture appeared, nothing else. About 30 minutes later the icons and <Start> appeared. Everything seemed to work and I had found my files again But I am unable to access the Internet or outlook express, the IE diagnostic seems to think it is a question of Firewall. This could be as the Zonealarm Icon is still in the tooltray even though I thought I had deleted the whole of the program.

I would be grateful for help in two areas. First and most important How can I regain access to the net. Second repairing the ridiculously long start up.

Can Change The Login Password Or Bypass

Mar 29, 2005

I bought a computer from a co-worker who just recently left to go to bootcamp. When I bought the computer from him it was just the system and monitor, no disc or anything. To make a long story short his username and password are still in the computer. I have no way of getting in contact with him and he hasn't contacted his parents yet either. Is there a way I can change the login password or bypass it even? Remember I'm running XP Pro.

I cannot boot up and bypass the logon screen. I have adjusted the settings from Control Userpasswords2 by unchecking the "users must use a username and password to use this computer" but still am required to click on my name on the logon screen. I've also adjusted the same setting in TweakUI for XP with no help Another issue, which has happened on two different computers is when I attempt to use the Panda Scan my anti-virus warns that it contains a virus and will not let me proceed with the scan.I am using XP Home version, a single user on a non-network computer and I consider myself to be an intermediate user.

X64 Edition Trial Extension?

Jul 12, 2006

I have had Windows XP 64 bit trial edition for some time now, and yes long enough to expire the 120 day trial of use. I have enjoyed the much faster OS, and have grown to have many files, of many variety and size, and DO NOT WANT TO LOSE EVERYTHING by reinstalling windows.I was wondering if anybody, had any suggestions as to how I could extend the trial or reuse the trial while retaining all of my precious information? Are there any loop holes? Should I get a free linux distribution? Should I buy some whiskey and a gun? What would you reccommend? (PS- Currently I can only have my computer on for 2 hours, after 1 hour of usage, a window pops up saying 'your windows has expired, you have 16 days left to restore access to this installation of Windows, your computer will restart in 1 hour. In addition I really dont want to shell out money if possible in anyway!)
